  1. @Patrick_G Thank you for the kind words. Currently I only have 1 40 gallon with assorted platies and a muck bucket “pond” with Gold white clouds. About 4 months ago, I had 4 75 gallons, each with Wapoga’s, Boesmani Lake Ayntinjo’s, axelrodi’s, and lastly Bleheri’s. Excuse the misspellings. However 4 months ago, we sold our home. I was in the process of preparing to move everything when I got an offer of $4k for all the aquariums as is. Obviously I went with it because I knew we would be living in a much smaller apt until our home was built. The new home should be ready in January and then the rainbow journey will begin again. Again thank you for the kind words.
  2. Personally, any school of rainbows. I would toss a dozen in with some corydoras and call it a day. I love me some rainbows. I do love basically all the options listed above as well.
  3. Personally it is also a double edged sword. I am an addict. Seems like a life time ago that I was shooting heroin and was homeless. I am clean and sober 10 years this Oct 1. I have had no relapses or even urges to do anything that stupid again. As a matter of fact, it frightened me. Aquarium keeping is my favorite hobby as I have a few. Setting up an aquarium, maintaining it, and watching the fish are all extremely soothing and it easily gets my mind as close to meditative as possible. The problem comes in when I begin thinking of my next aquarium. It can be an obsession and it takes quite a bit to check myself. My anxiety levels elevate and it can be quite a bummer when I realize that I can’t just go blow $500 on a new 75 setup. My favorite fish are rainbows and I would never purchase less than a dozen. This can get quite expensive. My other hobbies aren’t quite as expensive. I keep myself in check through perspective. I have a roof, a place to lay my butt down to go to sleep, a lovely pregnant wife, and a son that is way cooler than I’ll ever be. These thoughts keep my grounded and then I realize how silly the fish anxiety is. I am very self aware and keep myself sternly in check. This forum, watching/listening to Cory’s livestreams help a ton as well. Thank you
  4. @Deku-Corydorasthat is exactly what I do with mine, I toss them all over my water change trash can. I was putting the stickers on my “work” table. It’s basically a table for anything aquarium related and also for anything tarantula related. If I have to tie down some Anubias to a piece of driftwood, I use the table. As well as, if I have a small tarantula rehouse, I would use the table. It’s full now, so they go on the wc trash can. So far none of them have peeled up from water.
  5. I began watching the coop on YouTube about 5 years ago. I used to watch a ton of different “fish tubers” until I started eliminating most according to how much they impacted my hobby. Aquarium coop is one of 2 channels I watch now, and the second is a history channel. The coop has never let me down and they’re always trying to improve the hobby. I wish we had a Cory for the tarantula hobby as well. Thank you for 5 tremendous years.
  6. @Arcite just bury them as deep as you can and you will avoid this problem. Good luck
  7. Aquabid can be amazing. I’ve never ordered from Aquahuna, though I plan on doing so at the end of the month.
  8. @Chewyrat77 I live in Florida so I don’t use a heater on any aquariums. I have a 40 breeder with assorted platys and the temp usually hovers around 78. I remember listening to @Randypodcast and there was someone that kept platys (swordtails as well) outdoors where the temp dropped into the 60’s. They are really hardy fish that can tolerate a wide range of temps. Good luck
  9. I would do it again and take photos, something seems very off if you’re getting an absolute zero for results.
  10. L014 sunshine goldie pleco i absolutely adore these, they are beautifully and get a decent size without being unmanageable.
  11. I do know that Prime can have a sulphuric odor, but I’m not sure about API. I wouldn’t chance it either.
  12. @Mako13 I would definitely incorporate rainbow fish one way or another, but I prefer platys to guppies. It looks awesome, good luck to you
  13. @Patrick M. Bodega Aquatics How long do you think it will be in the pod?
  14. I’m down here in Florida and there’s a ton of fish farms, but no quality freshwater stores that I’ve been to. Saltwater seems to reign supreme down here. It does seem like prime territory to start a migration to freshwater, but I’m heavily biased.
  15. That’s where my brain went immediately. If proven as some sort of spore that grows on random driftwood that isn’t harmful to fish, plants, or water parameters, then you may actually be on to something. @Anomalocaris You could see what happens when you wedge it into another piece of driftwood in a much smaller tank, would it reattach and grow? Pretty fascinating stuff, please keep us posted.
  16. @DShelton @RockMongler yes I forgot to mention, while removing the sand it stunk to high heaven. Now everything is good and the smell is gone, but it’s smelled exactly like rotten eggs. My question wasn’t as much what is it, but more how to get rid of the black stain on the background. Thanks again
  17. Ok folks. As promised here are some photos. Funny thing is that it was jet black yesterday and today it seems the water flow has cleaned it up a bit so I think I have my solution. Please pardon the shotty photos, I stink with a camera. Thank you kindly
  18. Snakeheads and Asian Arowana are banned not only here in Florida, but I’m across the country. Channa Barca and AA are in my bucket list, but I may have to move very far away to make that happen. Dreams...
  19. Personally I wouldn’t add anything. Whatever money you would spend on shrimp, plants, or snails, could just be set aside. Wait for a $1 per gallon sale and buy a 10 gallon or 20 gallon for either $10 or $20. Then your options open up tremendously compared to a 1.5 or a 2 gallon. Good luck!
  20. I have some of those in all of my aquariums, mixed with nerites, mts, and mystery snails. If you want to reduce numbers just feed very little so only the fish have enough to eat for about 20 seconds or so. You’ll begin seeing little unoccupied shells. One time, I was over run and once I stopped feeding, it literally turned into a shell cemetery. It’s very manageable. Snails are your friends though, you just may not need that many friends.
  21. @CorydorasEthan What I meant by “they” are the rainbows. I would only add 1 type of corydoras. I actually never mix corydoras species because it’s more appealing to me to have a ton of the same species. With that said, they’d clean up any eggs.
  22. Hello all, Because I will be moving, I decided to rehome some of my stock, but definitely not all. I sold off my shellie colony and as I cleaned out the sand, I noticed that the shellies built up a little sand mountain on the background. When I removed that area of sand, the background appeared stained black, just like some of the deeper sand itself. Question is, now that they are gone and most of the sand is gone, will the black stain on the background go away. I believe it’s a hydrogen sulfide stain. Do I need to scrub it to get it off or will snails eat away at it little by little? Does the water flow help alleviate the issue? Any and all feedback is appreciated. ps I can post a photo tomorrow as I didn’t have my phone near me when my arms were wet. I’ve lined some ez planters in front of it to make it not so noticeable, however tomorrow I will be doing a water change so I can snap a photo. Thanks again
  23. @CorydorasEthan @Brandy Thank you for your replies, that’s exactly what I thought. Worst case scenario, I could always add some corydoras and if they ever did hybridize, the eggs would get gobbled up.
