What did you get done today?
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to Cory's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
I do have one; forgot to mention it in the post. It’s an ACO one since Marineland doesn’t make one for their 200.- 3,324 replies

I did not realize that! I thought they were 2 separate venues. Cypress Gardens was beautiful. Grow them into adults to add some beauty to the community of silver colored fish 🙂 They’d be in a breeder box until they aren’t so bite sized. Was not planning on breeding them. If I grow these fry (probably just a trio of fry, not a ton) to adults and they give birth, the 18 tetras in the tank would most definitely eat the new fry.- 1,525 replies

My friend offered me guppy fry.. population would not be an issue bc tetras. Gups would add a pop of color. Thoughts?- 1,525 replies

Geppetto is getting a tank upgrade soon. I made some kind of a thing for it. he was going to get this but too many snag points even with sanding, so this will go to the 29, to take the place of this resin one I “planted”- 1,525 replies

What did you get done today?
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to Cory's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Ahhh!! So excited! Brand new Marineland 200. The old timer is 11+ years old (probably older, I lost track) and stalled a few times on me in the last 2 weeks. I think some sand got into the pump because the intake was just a tad too close to the substrate. I have since shortened the intake tube. Anyway. Isn’t it beautiful?!?! These are soooo reliable 😍❤️😍❤️ And a fun add on. My ceramics have shelves now!! A plastic cartridge or cartridge frame helps filter performance when placed next to the biowheel. Prevents sponge/floss from drifting toward the wheel and stopping it. The loadout: coarse, polishing, ceramics. All well seasoned except the floss, which I swapped because it was pretty clogged. I will do a water change today and add a couple shots of Fritz Zyme 7. I have a ACO sponge filter going in the tank too, so I’m not overly concerned with bacteria loss. Music to my ears! The old timer: He’s still kickin though. (Also a baffle is on there to reduce current and dampen sound. I keep a dropped waterline for my mystery snail friends to climb up and lay their eggs. The baffle was cleaned up and applied to the new filter.) But check it out - the old timer is still kickin good! He’s getting a strong vinegar/water flushout and will be a backup.- 3,324 replies

Very nice aquascaping! What sizes are the rimless tanks? I bet Darkin will love the live plants and the new area he gets to explore. -

I was going nuts being cooped up too much. Exam is in two weeks, but I’m scoring well on practice, so I called a friend and we took a spontaneous trip to Bok Tower Gardens. The tower was constructed in 1929 out of coquina, and it sits on the highest point in FL. The carillonneur played the carillon live at 3:00. Beautiful. Mr. Bok dedicated his life to conservation.- 1,525 replies

Power outage recovery plan suggestions
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to mountaintoppufferkeeper's topic in General Discussion
I got 52 hrs out of a usb nano air pump connected to a 20000 mAh power bank. It’s like a half a volt. Awful with the noise though. I couldn’t stand it. And in a power outage that’s the only sound in the house you’ll hear… 😑- 16 replies

You need to put a craft mesh or something on the bottom because tetras will eat their own eggs after they scatter them. The mesh allows the eggs to fall through. -

I was using a tote for a while. I still have it and can set it up if needed. I bought this 10g to make my quarantine area now because it’s easier to see symptoms.

I’m not following. The QT tank is the tank he is in and also the tank that I hope to make his permanent home because it’s bigger. I see him using it a lot, actually.

He’s in the tank. That’s the thing. Move him (for awhile) to do the setup? Or just monitor? Got a seasoned sponge filter ready to go as well. My gut is telling me to just monitor. I just worry if qt is too boring he’ll bite. Then again, I think he’ll bite regardless. 🤷🏻♀️ Dorsal could indicate illness vs biting though. Idk what I’m doing at this point LOL

When you see a tank in the thrift store and your brain starts going haywire thinking how you can bring it to life…😵💫 That Marineland filter was barely used at all! And you know how loyal I am to Marineland! 😍🥰 Alas, I walked away. It’s a cheap aquaculture kit tank. Been there, done that, it leaked.- 1,525 replies

What I do is I keep an extra sponge filter running in my main tank. The quarantine tank stays empty. When I need to set up the quarantine tank, I use tank water for it as well as moving that sponge filter over. I also make sure to get the quarantine tank to the appropriate temperature with a heater before adding fish.
