  1. My 10 gallon Aqueon versa top lid is short also, but I think maybe I cut a little too much of the vinyl off. Lifewithpetsgci.com sells clear tank lids though. I may take some of the plastic things off of report covers and slide them onto the vinyl to extend the size.
  2. This isn't really a comment but a noise. Tap-tap-tap-tap-tap with their finger on the glass. 😐
  3. @nabokovfan87 after weekly maintenance on shark tank. (sorry, I couldn't resist. LOL)
  4. Your backyard is a peaceful oasis. Well, except for this guy. He stares into my soul. 💀
  5. For some reason I have a group of snorkelers today??? Also found clutch 10. You guys saw that clutch 9 was found rattling around in the intake tube? Weird? Must have fallen during maintenance, and I didn’t notice. Recent clutches have been pretty small. Dodger is doing well. Exploring.
  6. What interesting creatures! Thanks for sharing! I saw York getting puffy a few times above the water line, and I thought she was getting ready to lay eggs. Her demeanor and her appearance changed, but then she, for some reason, decided not to do it (with me there).
  7. Very nice! I use the strips for pH and hardness etc but for “the big 3” I like the drops because I like to feel like a mad scientist, bwahahahaaaa!
  8. For bettas, they don’t like current. HOB needs to be modified for the betta so there is less flow. I don’t think the sponge is better as far as performance. Both sponge and HOB build beneficial bacteria. However with smaller critters like snails & shrimp, they can’t get sucked into a sponge filter. Also sponge filters are quieter if you use with an air control valve or airstone, and they are more affordable.
  9. With mystery snails I check the lid and rim daily. Mine is notorious for laying eggs behind the waterfall so I run my hand under it now. Since the end of March, 1 snail has laid 10 clutches.
  10. Maybe some of us have figured out ways to make our lives easier in testing. If that’s you, share a photo of your setup! How is it more efficient? For mine, I took a box that already had compartments and I punched holes for the test tubes. (I knocked test tubes over more than once before..) I have an irrigation syringe for accurate measuring, because tank dipping the tubes always took a few tries before I got the right amount of water. I also have a “cop notebook” to record results and notes, and I keep the instructions there too.
  11. @nabokovfan87 I think I found a trick to train her to eat at the cave. Tonight is the first time I’ve tried it but it seemed to work very well. I fed the tetras some flakes. A few flakes fell and the ram, who now comes up to midlevel, ate them. She continued to look for flakes but after I fed those, I put sinking food at her cave with the turkey baster, and she didn’t notice it. So I took a flashlight and shined it into the side of the tank to illuminate the cave entrance. Bolivian rams are curious fish. She went over to see what the light was all about, and then she found the sinking food that was there. The tetras are too dumb to care about the light, and continued to look for flakes.
  12. I think there are products to make foods more palatable for fish. Entice and Garlic Guard? @Colu has experience with them. Maybe something like those can help your fishy?
  13. Everybody really loves the Krill flakes! And unlike other flake foods, some of the krill flakes float, and some sink (slowly). It hits the top, mid, and bottom feeders, and I don't really have to target feed my bottom guys if I use this food. 😍
  14. I have to target feed my Bolivian ram with a turkey baster because she likes to eat on the bottom and she wouldn't get anything with them swarming above her.
  15. My issues have been resolved. Maybe the web server was rebooted. Hopefully you guys can access everything now too.
  16. Hahaha, I know the feeling. That's how I feel when I have fish in quarantine. I'm excited to add them to the main tank, but I know it's for the best if I wait.
  17. Anyone else having trouble with the site? I can't access any of the option under Forum Activity, and I cannot search for anything. Wonder if it's just my connection. I tried on PC and on phone w/ same result.
  18. @Katherine the carrot aftermath has begun! 😳 That’s 🐌💩! I got a message about my snail sale on Nextdoor. A local hobbyist wants a few snails. She has a 20 gallon hex and she told me her 1 snail is lonely and bored. It’s nice that she is concerned for the social needs of the snails. 😌 She sent me a pic of the tank. She has like 1 glofish and the snail. Sponge filter looks like it’s got some nice crud and there is some algae on the walls which the snails will enjoy.
