  1. I was worried about the algae coating on the anubias; that it would inhibit their photosynthesis and respiration. Not to worry though, some more leaves were thoroughly cleaned throughout the night. Check it out. Brown algae had covered this leaf yesterday.
  2. Mine just clean the algae off of plants, but they do not eat healthy plants. They only eat dead/decaying parts of plants, such as leaves that are dying.
  3. Agreed. I took that thing back to the store within a week, after 2 occurrences of running dry because a power outage occurred while I was at work, and I wasn't at home to prime it.
  4. I had a smaller first clutch (top one in pic) and all of the eggs hatched! It was incredible to watch.
  5. @Guppysnail I rinsed these as well and rubbed the leaves and stems to remove any stuff that might have been on there.
  6. @DarthMollusk @Odd Duck pictures & everything; you guys are awesome! I made the cut; I did two. I put them in the hob for now; wasn’t sure if the juice at the cut site was fish safe or if I needed to wait for the roots to grow first.
  7. Hi Dave, welcome! I grew up in Shamokin, got family in Scranton too.
  8. I just bought a Pothos but I’m not sure where to cut the vine so it will grow in the tank.
  9. The tank looks grungy but the little guys are doing a good job cleaning it up. It looks significantly cleaner than this morning, and they are scrubbing the stubborn algae off the plant leaves. Some of them are enjoying the Repashy. I do notice a lot of waste though. A lot. Let’s hope we can keep parameters in check. I bought a Pothos and plan to float some.
  10. I've had pest control in the home before, and they sprayed at floor level. I don't have any low aquariums; everything is at least waist high. My tanks have lids also, and no ill effects occurred after the pest treatment.
  11. You know they can hold fertilized eggs for several months? I mean, I've gotten 4 or 5 clutches and I only ever bought 1 snail! I'm raising some of the babies now. The snail started laying eggs 2 or 2.5 months after I got her, and they were viable eggs.
  12. The tricky thing is that sick fish may not present symptoms for a few weeks. I quit the drop & plop after I had an ick outbreak that wiped out half my tank. Everyone has a different way of doing things, though. That's what I love about this forum. I love hearing what people have experimented with and how it turned out.
  13. I think they eat inverts too - something to keep in mind if you have any.
  14. Let's ask @Colu. @Colu always has seems to have a treatment plan for everything.
  15. @BrettD the flashlight fish are somethin' else! Wow! 😲
  16. Father Fish told a story in one of his vids about how a Jack Dempsey fell or jumped in his workshop and he couldn't find it. He had tons of tanks at that time. Anyway, running his shop or whatnot he got busy and forgot about the fish. One year later, he was in the workshop and there was an old tank on the floor. He caught a bit of movement out of the corner of his eye, and inspected the tank. The Jack Dempsey was swimming around in it and was big and healthy. He didn't do anything to the tank but it got like, 1 hour of sunlight a day. It was enough to grow algae and that's what the fish had eaten for the year.
  17. I LOVE his videos. Too bad he ended the series. Hopefully we'll see him again. But so relaxing to watch. He did a lot of water changes for sure though. And his shrimp were constantly having babies. I really like the "Father Fish method" and want to give it a try. He is very much pro-Walstad and encourages creating a "food web" in the tank w/ microorganisms. They eat the waste, and the fish eat the microorganisms and the algae, etc. Heavily heavily planted is key. But I do see sponge filters & heaters in his tanks. He says he doesn't really need to do water changes or be on a schedule to do so. Test the water, and if you get good readings, leave it alone. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on this. I'm neutral but I'm just saying that I am interested in the concept. This guy live streams with Father Fish too. They like to collaborate on the dirted tank method.
  18. Of course not. What kind of forum do you think this is? 😉
  19. 25 mystery snail babies moved into new home! 🙂 (growout tank)
