  1. With the lookout in place, Corn Colonel also designated an operative to serve as air traffic controller. He was stationed up high at the perimeter at the ingress point. The paratroopers arrived by plasticware chinook, some by twos and some by threes. Some of them were lacking in training and jumped tandem. We received a little bit of footage through the 2 anntenae that were put up earlier. The mission was a success and everyone had a safe landing. A new supply drop of Repashy MREs was sent in. About 5-7 juveniles remain at base, and more are expected to arrive in the near future.
  2. Corn Colonel assigned a soldier to get to high ground and remain there as a lookout. He put up two antennae to ensure the clearest transmission possible. They sent transmission to issue the order for 25 troops to advance into the forward camp. They were told to remain there for 50 minutes to acclimate and await further instruction.
  3. Yesterday the perimeter sweep was completed and a small amount of plant matter was cleared. One of the operatives trekked to the highest point of the perimeter and tested a parachute to ensure the incoming troops would have a safe landing. The supply drop was untouched, but this is of no concern as our agents are trained to live off the land.
  4. Did you get an ammonia reading? Does the growth look fuzzy? Slimy? Or more like a tumor?
  5. Yeah yeah.. sorry for multiple posts but I had to add one more. The upside-down jellyfish. This looks like a part of a reef. Like soft coral. Then the whole thing lifts up and starts swimming around. There are a bunch of different varieties of these and I encourage you poke around the web a bit to check 'em out. (OK I'm done. Ha.)
  6. Other fish I see while diving that I think are "showstoppers" are Queen Angelfish and Gray Angelfish. Despite the depth, the "trim" on their dorsal fin perpetually appears like it's under a blacklight. I love the pattern on the gray angelfish, but my favorite thing is whenever it moves, the side fin opens up, and the part that faces its body is BRIGHT BRIGHT YELLOW. Also highly visible even at depth. Depth being 60' to 90'. For you landlubbers, when I'm saying colors are visible at depth, well, as a diver descends they can no longer see certain colors. It goes back to my Advanced Open Water training which had 4 sections. Referring to the depth part of the course, we are given a color card. Kinda looks like a color card that comes with a test kit, but every color of the rainbow is on there. We are instructed to watch the color card as we descend, and one by one, colors disappear off of it. The first to go is red. However, depth is irrelevant when you have a fish tank because you just look in a glass box and, given the proper lighting, can experience all of the splendor these fish have to offer.
  7. I think arrow crabs are pretty cool. I sometimes see them when diving, particularly in shallow saltwater areas close to shore. I watch them closely. I love their demeanor and their faces. They use their front claw to raise food to their mouth, alternating one claw at a time. I can't afford saltwater, and I don't want to take on the maintenance involved. Heck, you can't even use tapwater. You need "special" water. Heh. No thanks. I see a lot of boxfish while diving. And cowfish are like boxfish but the cowfish have horns. Mainly I see scrawled cowfish.
  8. This morning we received a transmission from the operatives. Everything is going swimmingly. They worked through the night to secure the perimeter high and low. They met one of the locals and he was nice enough and participated in the perimeter sweep. Now, this reflects poorly on the debrief, but we’re told we need to include everything: one soldier was sleeping on the job! Corn Colonel put out feelers to find him. He was eventually located and was ashamed and disappeared off into the woods. We sent in a supply drop of Repashy MREs. This will help them keep their strength up. Hopefully their tracking devices are in good working condition to navigate to the coordinates.
  9. Snail team six has been deployed 🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌 . I had several recruits that were eager to put their best foot forward. We did a quick equipment check and everyone had their helmet on and passed inspection 🐚✅. They were airdropped☂ into a forward camp where they will acclimate and form their plan. (They look like Corn Colonels). 🤣 Time is short ⏳. They have one hour to strategize before they head into uncharted territory!
  10. So I’m not sure I like the Repashy for a snail breeder box. It spread out slightly, like melted ice cream on a sidewalk, and that was fine, but when it came to cleaning the breeder box, it took longer. Cleaning a breeder box full of snails is not a long task UNTIL you get to the part where you need to inspect what you’ve removed to ensure you haven’t sucked up any mini snails. They can be the same size as a tiny particle of food. I empty one turkey baster full of water at a time into the white dish and then I inspect. If I’m satisfied there are no snails I dump that water into the pitcher to be discarded. Well, when moving the Repashy to the white dish, it made the water murky, and rather than food dust on the bottom of that dish with space in between the bits, it formed a layer. It was hard to determine if there were snails, and it took me longer. I get up early to do my snail maintenance and welfare checks before going to work, but this dragged out the process. I’m just not sure it was practical? But it would work well in the grow out tank, probably in a little terra cotta plate like @Guppysnail uses for the green beans. I was pretty freaked out about moving the gang after reading about @Cinnebuns’s recent challenges, but seeing a little snail already living in there and looking good encourages me. I plan to send in “Snail Team 6” to perform a reconnaissance mission prior to issuing the order for the rest of the army to advance. I was going to drain the 10 gallon and use all 29 gal water but now that there is a snail in there already maybe I won’t? Do you think a one hour drip acclimation is sufficient?
  11. I think it's hilarious they ignored the spawning mop and laid eggs on the cord. 😂
  12. You could try inputting your filtration and your fish into this tool and it will show you the % stocking level that your tank has. https://aqadvisor.com/
  13. I guess not. Here's a chart about how color starts on them, and how color ends up once they grow. What do you think @DarthMollusk @Guppysnail @Katherine @Cinnebuns ? Do you think the type of snail pictured above is a mystery snail or a different type of snail?
  14. My pipes are in the attic; I'm in FL. Tank is 78, but tap can be like 82 or 84.
  15. I have groundbreaking news! Was changing water in both tanks today and I found something! A baby mystery snail! NOT a gold snail! (In the 10gal new tank). Every baby has been gold up to this point. I did not transfer any creatures to this tank. So.. how did it get there? How long has it been in there? And most importantly- isn’t it cute? 😍 (I don’t usually remove snails from the water but I wanted to see what it was.) This tank is a startup, going for a few weeks. Plants were from co op, all salt dipped 20 sec (but not the roots), except for the free “nerm glitter” I got. Driftwood was new. Sand was new except 1 shot glass full transferred from main tank to bring in bacteria. I had moved one of those swim-through rocks from main tank to 10 gallon to also bring in bacteria. It was in there for about a week. Water was transferred with pond pump at mid level and python hose. Lastly, the sponge filter. It seeded for awhile in the main tank. That is what I’d put my money on. A different colored snail taking a ride over on that. This snail has plenty of algae and biofilm to eat, and I added a piece of cuttlebone. New driftwood creates a thick white slime. It’s biofilm, and it’s loaded with protein and fiber. It’s good for critters to eat. Fish like it too. I also battened down the hatches (gaps in lid) with duct tape, for lack of a better solution, and dropped the water level a bit to discourage escape attempts. I’m ORD x 1 million right now. 😍 Need a name! A. Lucky B. Pioneer C. Trailblazer D. _______? E. Sneaky
