  1. I stumbled upon a video on YouTube. It just popped up as recommended- not sure why? 🤣 jk 🐌 How to make Duckweed Snello You think I can feed polite duckweed to them? Man, these snails are so spoiled.
  2. Good idea with the double sponge @TeeJay. Also I was eyeing those air pumps. We are about to enter into good ol’ hurricane season here. Thanks for the mini review on them!
  3. @Brandon p gross 😝 Have you heard of ring around the rosie, pocket full of posies. Back in the days of bubonic plague, people would keep posies in their pockets and when they had to walk through areas with high odor they would take the posies out and hold them to their nose. Seems like you may benefit from something like that in your city of floaters 🤣 Now, it seems there was some debate as to whether the plants ID’d as duckweed or salvia minima so here are some other photos.
  4. This review was under crushed coral on ACO shop: Dani R. (Beaverton, OR, US) Great Product for Snail Tank I was having trouble keeping correct parameters stable for my 10 gallon mystery snail tank. I added the crushed coral to a mesh bag after rinsing and it has really helped. The snails are happy and I am less stressed. One thing to keep in mind is that it raises pH. pH above 7 is good for snails, but you'll want to see what the needs of your other tankmates are. Also, is it sharp? They do benefit from calcium in the water column as well as consumed calcium. I've been considering repashy for a new Snello batch. Is it easy to make?
  5. @sweetpoison I didn't think this was helpful or productive to share this earlier because your tank was already set up, but I recently posted in my journal about how I add sand with zero clouding. Here's the link. There's A LOT of photos of the rinse process, but if you get to the bottom of those, there is a video I recorded of the sand-adding; there is a special way I do it. I posted another right below it where I stirred up the sand with my hand and the result of that. If you're interested it is here. I'm looking forward to seeing your new setup soon!
  6. That’s very interesting! Eggshells are also a good source of calcium but they need to be powdered really good so the edges are not sharp. I put them in “Snello”- search for that on YouTube and there are recipes. Some people add the powdered eggshell straight to the tank, but I find that it makes too much of a mess. Here’s a pic today of a perfect and pretty whorl. These snails are eating more and I had to increase their portion! On the plus side, less cleaning time needed for breeder box.
  7. I realize I never updated this thread. Been a busy few days with family in town. I did a 20% water change but at the same time noticed a decaying plant. Removed it. Ever since, my ammonia has been 0. Hooray!
  8. Haha, yes, I keep thinking of a quote from a scene with "Fat B" from Austin Powers. 🤣
  9. There are all kind of kits to make snail food,as well as already made calcium chips at lifewithpetsgci.com. For people that are serious about snails, that’s kinda their specialty. https://www.lifewithpetsgci.com/store/p73/p73/Snail_Food_.html.html#/
  10. Oh yeah, especially for smaller tanks. I use one daily to clean uneaten food out of my snail breeder box. It’s safer than an irrigation syringe because there are no moving parts, in case I do suck up a baby snail. I need to get a better one though. This one is from Dollar Tree and stuff wants to fall back out of it so I always have to put my finger on the end. I would like to get one of those no-drip turkey basters
  11. It’s a real show stopper. I heard swords are heavy feeders. Do you add anything besides root tabs?
  12. Thanks @TeeJay. I’m pretty much doing the same as you. Adding “juice” to get things started. Tank has a lot of detritus right now. I did clean the sponge filter in a ziplock full of tank water today (it was really clogged) but left all the other mulm in there. I added Fritz Zyme today also and ghost fed. The snails need to grow some more before they can move in because I can’t trust them with the gaps in the lid where the heater cord and tubing come through. I get a different headcount each day. 34,32,24,27. So I don’t know how many snails I actually have, but the next clutch is starting to show some activity, and I’m guessing there are about 80-100 expected from that one. (Snail journal link in my signature line)
  13. I changed water on the big tank today and all that water went into this tank. Also did filter maintenance and squeezed out all the media into this tank too. Ew! Haha Also the plants came today so I scaped it. I also got some bonus plants in my shipment! I’m told they might be salvia minima.
  14. If the wood is new, it’s probably making biofilm. They like to eat that. If you see anything white and slimy, leave it there. It’s good protein and fiber for them. 🙂 The light looks great and the tank’s really shaping up!
  15. Thanks @Seattle_Aquarist. Does it multiply? Hopefully it just likes Easy Green.
  16. I got a bonus plant with my shipment. These were found within a root system of a micro sword. ID please? Thanks!
