  1. Ok here is an update I have put my female rainbow shiners back in the tank and I just did a big water change on the tank. I was able to get a hold of 6 more red spotted rhinogobius they are young but I hope they are able to hold their own in this tank. I also just tonight added some jungle Val that I got in an auction last week so I planted all that and it's looking pretty good to me this is before and after turning all my pumps on. I also dropped a bunch of my cherry shrimp into the tank to see if any will make it. The gobies eat them but I have hundreds so I'm not super worried about losing mostly the culls to this tank.
  2. Here are some screen shots from a video I took. Note the logperch is no longer in my tank he passed away shortly after I lost surface agitation for an hour I now have A few air stones in the tank to prevent this. There is also the male stone roller in full breeding dress as well
  3. If I could figure out how to share video I would put in a video I took when they were last in full dress
  4. No pictures for this update but I attempted to breed my rainbow shiners in a different tank. I made a post about this but all my males that were showing color have died and I think I'm left with only females I will attempt to get more males as soon as I can but I will move the females back Until then
  5. I would love to reality bend my aquarium into whatever I wanted it to be that day. I suffer from MTS (multiple tank syndrome) As many of us do so if I could just look at my tank and have a 90 gallon community tank go to a rack of ten gallon betta tanks in an instant would be really fun. the moment I decide I want it to change I could just do it with my mind and I would have a fully set up and already beautiful 300 gallon reef tank. It would help me to narrow down what I'm really interested in.
  6. I also need some friends When I was moving my 300 gallon into place i did it with 3 people and I should have had 8 haha. Why is it so high up? And what are you putting in it?
  7. If you want shrimp I wouldn't do a "showpiece" fish I would do just shrimp or have a small schooling fish like CPDs anything large enough to be a show fish will probably stress the shrimp out to much that they would never be super successful. If you really need that showpiece I would do a licorice or sparkling gourami they are small enough they should be fine with shrimp without to much trouble
  8. Update all my males are dead water perimeters have not changed form the females which are doing well and eating I think that they may not have adjusted well to the temp change for some reason. Anyone with shiners has this happens to you are males more sensitive to temp change then females for some reason? Also if anyone knows where I can get some male rainbow shiners to breed let me know.
  9. I would get one of the soft sided minnow traps if I were to do that. It's what I use when I need to move fish out of a large tank that I can't just catch them out of easily. I would try to just get them with a net in a 29
  10. Fish Holding Tanks | Husky Portable Containment WWW.HUSKYPORTABLE.COM Husky® Folding Frame Tanks have been used by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, "The Redfish Series"... This is a soft sided pond like tank but they do custom builds and will put a large clear viewing panel I got a quote for a tank that was a little over 1,000 for a 500 gallon tank. Filtration is easy enough just get a pond filter somewhere between 200-500 for a canister filter. That is a new tank but if you find a used one you can find some great deals if you are willing to dive to pick them up. I found my 300 and I traded it for 115 dollars worth of aquariums. so if you are willing to take a risk on a used tank you can find big ones for cheap. One thing to look for is offices or doctors offices that are closing often they have a tank that no one wants.
  11. My oldest fish is my alligator gar bubbles I got him freshmen year high school so he would be born in late 2011 and we are a few mouths out from 2021. My oldest fish is 9 going on 10
  12. So I started with 20 fry over a year ago and I plan on starting my breeding project now that they are coloring up. I have a 55 for my males and a 75 that my females are living in at the moment but that will be the fry tank. I have 7 males and 10 females that I have selected. I plan to move the males in with the females after a week or so of good feeding. I have a pump blowing water over the spawning area in the 75. I do have a question what dose the temp have to be to get them to breed I am keepIng them in the garage and I want to know How low they will still breed at. I know they do well in cold water in the 50s and I've seen them in ponds with ice on them I'm just wondering if anyone has breed them at those temps?
  13. @Rikostani totally forgot about the diy way but looks like some of the others got it covered. customaquariums.com will ship you a tank but there is a price tag to something like that I have never used them personally so I don't know much about the tanks they make but if you have the budget to get a nice tank they are pretty top of the line @Danieli am not done by pros at all 😂 me and my father and my "little" brother are fairly large guys. I went to get the tank I loaded the 125 and the 120 in the truck myself while my dad played with me kid. To give you an idea of how strong we northmen are the three of us can move that size tank pretty easy by ourselves (I do not recomend doing this always have a partner when moving tanks). When I went to get the tank it was just me and my father (keep in mind this is a 8 foot long all glass 300 gallon with braces the glass is thick!)The guys helped us load up the tank in the back of the truck and we were able to put the tank and the stand side by side in the truck bed. We strapped it down and when we got it home it was only the two of us. We were messing with that thing for more then an hour. Before we got it out of the bed of the truck and on the stand. It sat in the garage for almost 3 months while I resealed it and water tested it. I was also waiting for help to get it the next 8 feet into the pet room. When I got the help I needed it was my poor father and my little brother we were working on moving that tank for a few hours just the three of us but we got it in to the room and it looks great!!!
  14. It really depends on you budget. How much are you looking to spend on a bigger tank? I got my 300 gallon in a trade on craigslist For a 120 and a 125 both of those tanks I got for cheap so in all I got my 300 with stand for 115 total but I am also on that website everyday so I get the good deals as soon as they are posted. If you are willing to pay for a new one that increases your chances of getting a good big tank to 100%. also depending On how far you are willing to drive that can help a lot I once got a 150 gallon for dirt cheap but I had to drive for about 4 hours one way to get it. Where are you located?
  15. What are the detentions of your tank and do you want a community or a wet pet? I'm going to assume you have a 40 breeder and you want a community tank that is heavily planted. I would focus on filling the three main points of the tank bottom middle and top. If you like South American fish I would do about 20 Cory cats a pair of angles or rams and for the top about 10-20 hatchets or Pencil fish. If Asian species are more your style I would get a loach species like yo-yos or another species in that 3-5 inch range and I would get about 8 or so for the mid water I would get a few pearl gourami And or a small school of mid size rainbow fish like neon dwarf rainbows. And for the top of the tank I would get a small school of half beaks or one or the small rainbow fish like a pseudomugil Species
  16. I would say a minimum really depends on the temp swings you have. how cold is it at night? How hot is it in the day? The more water the more stable the temps will be. The smallest I would go for any of those species is around 20-40 gallons not knowing what your temps are. If you don't know already it is generally better to have shade plants in the tank and keep it out of full sun. I would go as big as you can go on your local marketplace website and try to find an old farmer who has a horse watering trough They don't want anymore. Try to get a plastic one and avoid the metals
  17. In that large of a tank you could have a lot of species the true limiting factor is the size of the fish you have right now. I would consider a large school of rainbow fish if you. If you could get them a school of spotted Congo puffers would work well enough. Angles may eat a lot of the smaller fish and my get beaten to the food by some of the more aggressive Tank mates. If you upped your temps a little you could try discus. Do you have substrate that would be problematic if it got dug up by something like a puffer or cichlid?
  18. These are my two tanks that can also be called "ponds" my 300 gallon stock tank with a 150 gallon above tank planted sump. I also have my 830 gallon gar tank. In there now I have bubbles the alligator gar he is around 3 feet and a small koi that is a little under a foot.
  19. I have a friend who keeps only males and he will have at least 3 colored up at one time he only has 7 but they are red when not colored up and when they are Colored up they go that brilliant blue. He feeds a lot of blood worms and krill in that tank so the reds really pop.
  20. Awesome!!! I am going to try to breed mine this year as well do you have any more Pictures or videos of how the breeding and raising went for you. How old are the ones in your pond?
  21. I would say yes the common creek chub would be my guess as well with the black dots being Paravortex turbellaria flatworms
  22. It really depends on where you are if you are in or in driving distance of Ohio, Florida, southern California or New York You are going to find big tanks. If your in the middle of nowhere you might just be out of luck unless you are going to a custom aquarium company
  23. If you are willing to drive you can find big tanks for pretty cheap
  24. This is my 300 it was usedi got it in a trade for two tanks total of those to tanks was a value of 115 dollars. I resealed it's and it works fine. I've played with the idea of doing a plywood tank and much like the one Joey did. If you fallow that step by step you should be fine. If I were you I would use the 135 as a front panel and if you have the space I would just make it a square a 6 foot of so square. If you are short on time and or need something to hold the fish I would use a Rubbermaid stock tank 100 gallons for 60 bucks or a 300gallon for 250
