I have been smitten by the Metaframe tanks since Daniel posted his 1930's journal entry. Not a piece I want to get online, since I want to see the real bones. Well, last night was our local aquarium (GSAS) meeting, and this 10-gallon Metaframe aquarium showed up on the sale table. I just could not resist! So, it came home with me... 😁 Now, I call it a rehabilitation because I am not going to try to get all the historically appropriate pieces, but instead will try to salvage what came with it. I gave it a good clean to assess what it needs done. I knew the seals were shot, but I may salvage the glass. So, no need for a leak test. 😎 Check! It will leak. It came with a UGF filter, so I need to learn about those. Also has a functional thermometer, a heater, and air pump, and what looks like a HOB filter housing. After an initial pass at cleaning, I will test the heater. The air pump works, but it is loud so I'll open it and see if I can fix that. All this is, of course, a new rabbit hole. I am learning about the history of the tank, and I am sure this is not a "gem", but I like the look and that is what I am going for. It lacks the slate bottom (which is good for me) and it may not be real SS, but I think it will still be fun to fix up and use as my new BBA tank when it is finished.

Got everything but the massive soil part. I bought some moss mesh from ACO and it is doing great, so I do not want to tear it apart, yet. I may be moving this whole project to a different tank. 😁

Today, Mr. Chiton gave me a chance to see how big he has gotten, all while munching on diatoms. 23mm and growing!

Well, I am not going to give up. At last night's GSAS I got some beautiful Hygrophila pinnatifida, and as a bonus, there were what look like BBA and snails in the bag (just a few of my favorite things!) So I am letting it sit for a day on its own with ferts, and then add it to the BBA tank. Woot!

The Riccia has pretty much obliterated the duckweed in my tanks. It grows like crazy, and it is thriving in the Vampire crab tank, which happens to be the insane shrimplet factory! I take it out by the mounds when I do WC because it covers the surface. 😁

Whatever it is, it appears to be a funky hairy monster ready to jump and attack! Eeek! 🤪

Given that this tank has no substrate, I am going to try hiding the tabs behind the matten wall and see if that helps. Thanks! 😃

I have been very happy with these and the mesh version. There is a great video on using them at their site. Regarding mount, I no not use them at all. My V-Sump is a bit weird so I just clip them under the tubing that dumps the water from the tank into the sump.

I just bought CAE a couple of weeks ago, and they are not good community fish. Elmer (his name) came home with my intention of keeping him solo in a tank. Right now he is sharing with 3 Pygmy corydoras and a few RCS, and they seem to love him. He appears to be fine with all of them for now, but we’ll see what happens as he starts growing. They are fun little fish!

I shall go down in history as the one person who failed at growing BBA. I have not been very diligent with this tank due to travel, and this box just has no algae left! All the little tufts of BBA disappeared. I will try to restart the process by adding Fe and Easy Green. Lights have been at full brightness 14 hours a day, plus a blue light. 🤨

Thank you! And yes, the drama box never fails to deliver. 😉 Looking forward to having you as a Nermy neighbor!

If you are looking at cleaning the socks often, the felt socks are amazing at catching gunk but clog faster. If you do not want to change them that often, the mesh ones do a good job. Also, anything in the 150-200ppi range is good. I use 50ppi when I need to do a fast clean after a big feeding, but then change the socks out the same day.

New kid hitchhiked on a rockweed. I have spotted two of them, about 1" long. Love the beady white eyes!

House for sale with huge built-in Aquarium
eatyourpeas replied to Fish Folk's topic in General Discussion
Simply put, not for me. Big tanks, I go to the aquarium. Bigger tank, I go swim in the ocean, as @lefty o pointed out, snorkel and fins minus the cleaning. I am more of the cottage style house, and like @PineSong, lots of nano tanks. The flooding, if one of those tanks fail, must be spectacular! That is just a bit too excessive for my old self… 🤪 -
I have not bred mine, since I ended up with two boys. If the pea puffer is behaving normally, I would just keep an eye on her (yes, definitely a female!). Meds can be detrimental to pea puffers. Here is a video showing courtship in pea puffers, and the girl’s belly looks similar to your pea puffer’s. Yours appears to be very loaded. Sorry I can’t be more helpful. I hope she ends up making little pea puffers for you. 🐡

I cleaned the canister filter yesterday (way overdue!) and decided to change the direction of the spray bar. Oh dear!, the fish are so happy! It was like giving them a membership to the gym, and even the newest little Lampeye was out braving the current. I can’t be blamed for having sluggish fish any longer! 😁

I have not asked, but Ursula seems to be quite non-committal. I would use all pronouns available to mankind and the marine world when it comes to her, therefore I deem UF non-binary. 😉

What species of crypt is this plant ?
eatyourpeas replied to anewbie's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Could be a Cryptocoryne undulata. I initially thought it could be a wendtii but the veins are too pronounced. -

Hello All. Possible Long Post. Tank Issues.
eatyourpeas replied to TimmG's topic in General Discussion
My Vampire Crab tank has similar issues. The critters in the tank deplete KH at an alarming rate, and since it is a bog, acidity is a staple. I use Seachem Alkaline Buffer with every weekly WC to replenish the KH, have a bag of crushed coral in the canister filter, and do a top off in the middle of the week with necessary adjustments. Any critter that needs to maintain shells will contribute to the depletion of KH. Things were normal in the tank until I got a MTS invasion, but the crabs like to munch on them, so they are staying. I hope this helps. 🐌 -
