  1. They seem bigger than I imagined although still small and cute. Fingers crossed.
  2. I started testing with the coop test strips so i do water changes once a month when i'm busy since my plants keep things under control mostly. i think if i fed heavily it might be different. I have plants so i use easy green around once a week. I'm redoing my schedules this weekend so i'll keep to the schedule for more plant growth. I have snails so I also only clean off my front glass. When I am trying to breed i do weekly water changes and raise up some bbs using the coop brine hatcher.
  3. Congrats on getting a few fry. Thanks for sharing the nice pictures. If you have the space it's worth a try to try again in another tank. What are you going to feed them? i'm interested in the fry raising foods. There are live foods live daphnia and baby brine shrimp. You seem to be getting them some foods. I've been interested in Killis but i haven't raised any yet. I'm going to do an internet search on your red striped killis. 🙂
  4. I plan on trying to raise some now that i'm back to fertilizing regularly. More plant cover means more fry can survive their parents and more microfauca to munch on. This reminds me of all the Betta raising vids i watched how if using a larger tank for the fry to have the water low. Fry are small so they won't find the food if it's too far away.
  5. From the coop articles on White Cloud Minnows, i've read it at some point when i got some. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/white-cloud-mountain-minnow-care The article says it but i've noticed when mature the females are plumper and the males are more colorful especially with good foods.
  6. you might have done something by now, it depends if you want the chance of raising up more fry or you want to just move on for now. Betta's are known for being temperamental to the point that a friendly one is exclaimed upon if ever found so i'd only try that route if you will be around to watch. Maybe if the betta tank is very well planted with hiding spots all over. I personally would do Option C growing them out if they make it and adding them back to the main tank when a good size. Have fun and i'll look in for any updates.
  7. I like this idea! A way to use up some of my crushed coral and shell bits without just dumping in my tanks.
  8. Having plants and hiding places for the fry seems to be a big plus. I’m writing notes now since in the past I was just lucky and I had more time to check in with my tanks.
  9. It’s nice to see, I look forward to any updates you have time to share. The fish store I found females at years ago closed so that’s a lucky find!
  10. i'd recommend keeping any filters wet with tank water if you can instead of drying out. i have moved a few times with five gallon buckets so it definitely works!
  11. My guppies are growing out now, some color in their fins. I’ve been feeding BBS, pellets and flakes from the coop.
  12. Welcome, i also found this community from youtube. Many helpful people here and I like seeing the projects being planned.
  13. I'm buying a 30 gallon standalone tub and I bought extra plants from the coop that i plan to add to it when it's warmer. It's very cold still for fish now but now that I have some space, I moved, I want to give it a good try. My family visits often so I'm going to make it look extra good for all of us. haha.
  14. I think it can be a technique to strengthen the strain if you use a separate black ram later to add back into the mix to encourage the color you want. It's theory and others got the colors they want by picking from fish that had colors they wanted it just depends on the time you want to take.
  15. It looks like a nice stable setup. I like all of those fish, it seems you could have some real fun seeing it mature.
  16. Today i tried harvesting, had just started and then i looked again and they weren't hatched yet. I had been heating my home more but i took a break today so the brine were delayed. Sometime soon i'll look for one of those lights that can be adjusted so i can have more consistent hatches. Good luck
  17. I made something like one in a class years ago so I need to relearn it. Thanks for the pointer, i love learning new things all the time.
  18. Thank you for the advice, I've watched Simply Betta's YouTube before so I'll go look for some I missed, it's been a while. I'm not expecting miracles but a fun home project that i think will be rewarding. i plan on taking lots of pictures and in time journaling it on this site. Hmm, I'm glad I am setting up more tanks since I think I'll need before long. I have an idea of two buyers i liked also that i could buy from to add in similar colors in the future. The biggest thing for me might be catching the ones i don't want in my main tank before they all breed together. 🙂
  19. Nice to see, I’m about to start some seeds. My Home Depot was bare of seeds for a while but now they are all stocked up. Was there a kit for the drip lines or did you buy it piece by piece?
  20. I just got these in today, they are mainly very small with 2 that are older I’d say but still fry. I have had bad luck keeping guppies I got locally. Mainly my females would live to have fry once and died. I’m hoping that these might be stronger. I will keep an eye on the M/F ratio and post a few more pictures when I can soon. This summer it would be my hope to pond out some of these to grow them strong. I’m wondering if there are tips to raising up a line of guppies choosing the strongest and prettiest eventually to keep growing out. I’d really like to have more success this time around.
  21. Exactly, hornwort and other plants can do the filtration. You just need lots of them if you plan on adding fish like I plan on doing this summer with a solar powered either bubbler or mini fountain.
  22. in the early 2000's I had my first tank I shared with my two brothers. It introduced me to it but earlier i had 2 Betta fish, one at a time that i took care of with near daily water changes. They lived years but I'm glad I learned about the nitrogen cycle when I got older. By 2010 i had my own 15 gallon fish tank I stocked with guppy's, a dwarf gourami and 5-7 neon tetras. Now it seems stocked heavy but I think i was ok with my added sponge to my filter and lots of java moss. Good times and one of my tanks I plan on having guppies in now, with CPD's in the other.
  23. There are small shrimp near Hawaii I believe that can live 20-30 years that they put into closed ecosystems but I think it could be done better with more variety. I’m ok with having to intervene sometimes but following what nature does on its own is inspiring. I look forward to any further updates. Those are cool fish.
  24. Welcome, for a while I heard about a forum soon. When it was talked about more often i wasn't sure how to find it. A few coop online orders ago i saw the forum link. The pictures and stories on here are fun to see.
