  1. @WhitecloudDynasty I am curious of your opinion.
  2. You would want to do some test on the rocks or talk to some one local to be sure. Anything granitic is more likely to be more stable in water. The problem would be if you end up with rocks that would change your parameters. I believe sedimentary rocks are often more likely to have minerals that could dissolve into water (such as carbonate rocks). Rocks can contain iron, but that does not mean it will be able to dissolve into the water column. The more you can identify what it is (or likely to be) the better chance you have of success. If you do put it in make sure you have weighed out the best/worst case scenarios. @Kurt Brutting Has the right idea. Testing a rock with acid (vinegar is a solution of acetic acid) can help you decide if it is a carbonate rock. calcium carbonate reacts with acids to produce a chemical reaction (sizzling or bubbling).
  3. Have you tried 24/7 lights? I accidentally left my tank on 24/6 when I went on vacation and came back to a small amount of what looked suspiciously like Black Beard.
  4. I am loving the thread, thank you for sharing. I am curious, what are you going to do with that many puffers?
  5. I have had this issue with White Clouds. Feeding ADULT brine shrimp seemed to end with struggling or dead fish, feeding baby brine shrimp was no problem. Not sure if that helps. You could try feeding them something else and see if the deaths stop?
  6. I have pothos surviving in my garage in winter, in Colorado, under an led shop light...
  7. The swimming to surface is normal. They do take in some air and dart back down.
  8. I keep checking back to see if this thread has been updated. I have been thinking about how I would like to get a bicher but decided the other day that was low on the list... after seeing the updated, pa pet/friend bicher is back at the top!
  9. Fall of 2018 I ended up with a thrift store 5(8?) gal aquarium set that had previously housed a betta. I found aquarium co-op somewhere in the beginning and that led to me wanting to do more. I ended up being given a used 45 tall, and buying a 20long and 10 gal. My main tank is the 45 and I am working to minimize because I have found that having fewer tanks allows me to enjoy them more but I am constantly dreaming of different fish and bigger tanks.
  10. You may also want to retest your water with a different test kit (strips maybe) or with the same. The kit could be bad, maybe the test was inaccurate for some reason, or the water could have temporarily changed and maybe it is now without ammonia.
  11. Just filled out the survey after passing over this several times. It was quick and helped me to evaluate my own fish keeping journey along with my future intentions.
  12. One thing you could do is stagger the med's if you have the tank space and time. I believed Cory has talked about this in different livestreams. I have done this where one week I treat one med and then wait/rest a week and treat another med on week 3. If my memory is correct, the reason they treat all three at once is because the co-op needs to be able to have reasonable turnover and 6 weeks of QT would not be very practical for a business.
  13. For a children's swimming instruction business they have different levels and one (I think the beginner) is called "guppy level"
  14. Keep in mind corydoras sometimes choose strange places and positions to rest (I did a double take the other day because one looked dead, half keeled-over but was just resting). If that is not the case are there any other visible signs of a potential issue? Have you tested your water parameters including temperature? Have you done anything different recently or changed some care routine? How long have the fish been in the tank? Do you have any pictures?
  15. moss balls may e difficult because of their structure. I am particular to Christmas moss. I have found it easy to grow and it would entangle well with all the "branches".
  16. I nabbed 5 cory eggs off the side of the glass and didn't use any methyl blue. One got fungus (which I promptly removed) while the other 4 hatched. I wonder if Methyl blue is more something to better guarantee higher numbers. I had heard corydoras and their eggs are prone to fungus so i was surprised to only loose 1 out of 5.
  17. They will likely do it again if you are interested in trying your hand at raising the fry. Mine spawned many times before I tried taking out a couple eggs and they spawned again recently but i don't have space so I didn't try to save the eggs.
  18. @Hobbit I feel like this is related. I fashioned a quick uplift tube with some leftover sprinkler materials. It is slowly feeding water into my specimen container and then flowing back into the main tank. I am planning on experimenting with only using uplift for a diy fry system in my 20long.
  19. I like to feed mine BBS as I can see if they have eaten (little golden bellies). I also do frequent water changes to make sure the water does not foul (especially if I feed repashy). I use a piece of airline tubing rubber-banded to a chopstick so I can suck out debris and poop (into a mason jar) but have to be careful, I definitely siphoned one out before (it was fine). Mine are in a "specimen container" hanging in my main tank and I was able to rig up a small system using tubes and air to "pump water" into the container which cascades back into the main tank (with a piece of sponge to make sure no corydoras flow out).
  20. @Mr Gumby I laughed then thought... Actually if you toss in some repashy... My white clouds swarm the bottom when I feed repashy and are at least all in one place.
  21. @Slick_Nick, I have an android... I use the "ProCam X lite" app and the only setting I change to manual is the focus. That would be my suggestion try using auto on all functions except focus. Also take a lot of pictures and expect to only get a few you like.
  22. This was up a while ago but I don't think there has been much activity lately. Some cool articles though if you are looking for more.
  23. Jimmie has youtube videos about taking better pictures. One thing I found most helpful was using a free picture app that allowed me to turn the focus to manual. I would set the focus to a certain distance and take dozens of pictures when the fish moved into the camera field of view at the right distance. I could always get a couple good ones out of a dozen bad.
