  1. Very interesting. Those babies are tiny!!! So they are so small they can’t take bbs? How about micro worms? They are so very easy to culture and keep. My baby guppies go crazy for them.
  2. I’m just wondering why someone would want to fast their fish 🐟 if not for the purpose of shipping? What benefits do they get from this? just asking.
  3. Never have I seen a gold fish that huge! But I have to ask. If it is not a Native fish why did they put it back?
  4. I purchased this plant as a bulb a few months back. It has since taken over the 20 long aquarium. I had no idea the bulb would grow into this huge plant! Some of the leaves are larger than the fish. look as those long stems of leaves that reach to the top of the tank. Wow! I love this plant so much I purchased two more bulbs for the other two aquariums. This aquarium replaced the ten gallon I earlier started a breeding program in but upgraded to this size when petco had its 1$ per gallon sale. I just transferred everything over to this tank. Its supposed to have plantinum angels in it but they arrived so sick they perished within 6 hrs of delivery. Yea those are Neon lyretail balloon Mollies you see in the pictures. Please forgive me. I didn’t find out until recently thaT they are not pc when purchased. Now I am embarrassed 😳. But I love them 😍 🤷‍♂️ So I don’t know what to say. Except I promise not to do it again? Yea. That’s it.
  5. Very cool set up. Looks like it works great. Nice job!
  6. I always enjoy the fish. Lots of clear videos of the guppies and if possible what kind they are. Any new info that might come out from speakers possibly? it will be a joy to watch your video when posted
  7. I’ve very much enjoyed your build thread. Your platinum angel is gorgeous. so are your black angels. Many years ago I had angels that spawned in the aquarium. First few runs nothing happened. Then as the parents became experienced they were able to raise them into fry. If memory serves me correctly they fan the eggs multiple times a day to keep them from getting moldy? When the eggs became fry I separated them and grew them out in a ten gallon. Great job on everything!
  8. I also watched corys video on cultivating micro worms. I performed per his instructions and have been very successful. Guppy fry love those worms and they seem do be growing at an excellerated rate compared to my last batches of fry. In less than two weeks they are exhibiting color. if you haven’t tried baby brine shrimp I would encourage you to. It’s much easier than it appears and the results are worth it.
  9. I breed dumbo eared guppies. They will happily breed with non dumbo eared guppies. The fry can and do have fry of their own. You may have heard that mature Ribbon fin males cannot breed with females and this is true. But Ribbon fin females can breed easily. The result will be that some fry will inherit the ribbon fins and some just carry the gene.
  10. I haven’t figured that out yet. That’s why they are still here. 🤣🤣🤣
  11. Thank you Daniel for your insight. Your most likely correct. I believed both strains were pure before I received them. So if you are correct maybe both strains have hidden phenotypes that combined into putting off these orange/black strains. It’s very bizarre to me and not at all expected. I did get some nice males and females (three I used in my breeding program that recently halted to a stop). I’m just a little bummed that it will take several months before I can effectively line breed again. (I’m in the wait and see mode f which females are still virgin and mature enough to breed).
  12. So I was wondering if anyone knows about phenotypes in guppies. I was line breeding Blue Dragon guppies to Purple Dragon ribbon fin females. Had some great success in the beginning. But then when those blue dragon males matured and were bred back to the father I also got a lot of off colored guppies I have three male guppies that are totally orange and black. One f them also has a blue metal saddle. They are cool looking I guess if you like that color scheme but not at all what I was breeding for or expected. Any ideas how to avoid these results?
  13. Well its been two weeks since I separated the guppies for breeding. I lost one of the female guppies when she swam into the symphon tube during a water change. Dang!! the other female Already has fry! I’m not happy about this because it tells me the female was pregnant before the separation. Even though she came from a female only tank. So I had to review the female only tank and found a juvenile male that looked like a female. In fact he looks exactly like a smaller version of the female in the pic! So I found the culprit but the line breeding program is over before it even started. Man, am I bummed. The trio of females in the other tank look as if they could be pregnant as well even though there is not yet a male guppy in there. That little snot got around I tell you. So I’m unsure where to go from here. These are not fry I want since the culprit male is very dull, plain, and has a very small tail. Like I said he looks like a female. Tried to get a pic of him but he is now in the male only show tank. I’ll have to go back to the drawing board as they say, and wait to see which females I have left that are not pregnant. Looking at a minimum of thirty days. I wonder if the 4 months is long enough to re-use the original female shown in the pic? Time will tell I guess. In the mean time a good culling is in order and it’s going to be difficult since all my guppies have been bred and raised here at home except the females used in the first tank mentioned above.
  14. Are you following up on those treatments? Each of those medications require a 5 to 10 day treatment plan and a water change Columnaris is a very wicked disease to try to cure. And is usually a sign of an underlying problem. It’s been a good while since I’ve had to deal with it. Seams like there was a treatment plan online I used successfully. It was a combination of furan 2 and something else I cannot recall at this time. Kanaplex? Maybe it was Metroplex? I also added salt even though my tank is planted. First I had to deal with the symptoms as emergency treatment. I also added an air stone though I cannot remember why. Then find the underlying cause. In my case the nitrogen cycle was not complete and the aquarium could not yet deal with the bio load I placed on it. Putting in nitrifying bacteria after the first full course of treatment seemed to do the trick for me. What underlying problem you have (if any) I couldn’t say. I hope you get t figured out. You could always try Cory’s trio of meds. He swears it will cure most things It’s posted here somewhere.
  15. Hi everyone, Quick question: Can panda cory’s tolerate salt as a treatment? I figure they are a form of catfish and I thought catfish don’t do well in salt. But I may also be confused about now, as I’ve read so much in the past month that the info is a bit garbled in my mind
  16. What a beautiful aquarium. I wish I was talented like you!
  17. Wow what an awesome day! Your guppies are beautiful. Great job!
  18. Today I worked aquarium maintenance for 4 hours or more. The day shot away from me as I performed water changes in all four aquariums, and separated fish where I felt they needed to go. . Here is my favorite home bred male. He is a cross between a blue dragon male and a purple dragon ribbon fin female. He is larger than his father (trait I’m breeding for) and a deep indigo blue with snake skin body, metal saddle and a gorgeous half moon tail with a flash of deep gold not all his colors and detail came thru the picture. He will be bred to two Blue Dragon females I purchased recently These are in a 10 gallon aquarium. The male will be removed after a couple weeks Here s the trio in their own ten gallon aquarium Below is another ten gallon aquarium I recently rescaped for a different strain of Blue Dragon guppies These are home bred Ribbon fin females. These are the sisters of the male above they are half Blue Dragon and half purple dragon ribbon fin cross. Their size is better than what I started with and I love their form. I think they look wonderful. They have been moved into this tank to acclimate them while they finish maturing. They will be bred back to their father. Here is the father in an earlier photo That is the plan for now. Though when time comes I might choose one of the other sibling males to mate with these females If one matures out as well as the father. Will update in a couple weeks or when a change is noticed. Let me know what you think
  19. I forgot to add that spikes in nitrates and Amonia are normal when cycling an aquarium. when I cycled my aquariums With fish in them I performed a lot of Water changes. Your fish will do well if you stay on top of it.
  20. Any elevated ammonia levels in your tank will stress your fish. When a fish is stressed it can cause your fish to be susceptible to various illnesses. Elevated ammonia can also cause damage to gills. A water change would be in order to ensure the health of your fish. I like to add nitrifying bacteria to my tanks when performing a large water change. I Believe it helps keep the nitrogen cycle going without a hitch.
