    When my cat became old and had a fair number of health issues, and it came time for me to make "the decision" that every pet owner dreads - I took my tablet to the vet and I let him watch bird & squirrel videos in his final moments.

    I wait for them to get a few good roots before detaching. Usually when they are about the size of a quarter. Sometimes after detaching I will just let them float around until I have more plant to work with (attach).

    Picked up this dealio at the retail giant beginning with a W. Could be helpful for the 5.5 on the bottom shelf. Will have to give it a whirl and see how well it works. Substrate next. PFS again. While nutrient rich substrates were tempting, they are too wonky with pH for my liking. I don’t play the pH game. #optout PFS sand does a good job with holding plants and providing filtration as it houses both anerobic and aerobic bacteria, whereas gravel only houses aerobic because there are large gaps that water travels through. The mulm has now settled and I think I will leave it there and do a locking layer of sand (using the mess-free method: earlier in this journal) on top so that the future plant roots can enjoy some treats. I will have to see if the mulm will stay put for that. Oh yeah. Didn’t I tell you guys this was gonna be the new QT tank? I lied. 🙂

    Yes, moving your plants out of the tank (into bucket?) and putting a light over them. Then you can keep your main tank dark to kill the algae. And you can also quit giving nutes to the tank. Deplete the algae’s resources.

    That’s great @BAT! Glad you got another tank to give them some space. Cycled tank, yes? They are very cute. I have a blue rescue snail. He was getting picked on at the fish store by swordtails and it was too a point they wouldn’t let him come out of his shell. Now he lives in my snail paradise and is having a nice time. His name is Dodger. He’s on the left here:

    Wow @xXInkedPhoenixX. You’ve outdone yourself! The heater is brand new too! And you’re even bringing IAL water!?! 😍 You’re an angel to this fish and the others. You have such a big heart! ❤️ You can make a little instruction sheet with Microsoft word. That’s what I did when I adopted my baby snails out. A lot of people think you don’t have to feed mystery snails?! They think, oh, they’ll just eat the algae. Then they wonder why they die. People don’t know they need calcium (shell) and protein (operculum) either. So I gave hobbyist a little crab cuisine and cuttlebone with the care sheet. Make sure Mama doesn’t overfeed… And let us know if Purple is named?

    The shrimp are doing very well. They love the plants. Gives me an excuse to leave the tank messy (jungle style).

    That's cool. I quite like the look of tannins. I get it when I add new driftwood. Also my friend gave me some almond leaves for my shrimp, so I'm trying them out.

    Is there such a thing as adding too many tannins? How do your leaf-water tannin tanks compare in pH to the regular tanks? (Sorry for all the questions. I'm just curious. Heh.)

    @xXInkedPhoenixX do you ever use the Fritz dark water stuff, or do you use the water conditioner that already has the almond leaf extract in it (ie: betta guard)? Or do you use both?

    This is how my cats look when one's about to tackle the other. They give each other the staredown and then one shakes their butt and POUNCE! Well, at least it's not a cracked tank. 🙂 --- Congrats on magenta babies! Again! 😂 And boooo on those assassin snails. But they are just doing what they do, I guess. Are you going to put babies, or assassins, into a breeder box to keep the babies safe?

    Maybe try some guppy grass for your shrimp to hide in. I have micro swords in both tanks and they are doing very well! Sometimes the runners are unruly and come up and float when I vac the substrate. Sometimes I tuck them back in, sometimes I don’t.
