  1. I made a swim thru for Geppetto for about 2 bucks. I used Pvc, fishing line, and plant weights, eliminating the need for annoying suction cups. I tied the fishing line in a loop around the PVC. The fishing line and the plant weights hang outside the tank while the PVC stays in there. No glue required as the fishing line stays tight against the pvc from the weight of the pipe. Hence no risk of fins getting caught. This method allows placement of the pvc at the top of the tank since the pvc does not float. Once I slide my lid closed it will also keep the fishing line in place, although this seems redundant. The weights are doing the job. This is a bottom tank, and placement of the swim thru at the back of the tank hides it from view. You must crouch down to look at the tank to see the pvc is there.
  2. I gave the snails half of the Snello they usually get. Let’s see how they do with this portion. With the previous portion they overate and became lethargic. I also pushed some pellets into the snello for an extra protein boost, in addition to the bloodworms the Snello contains. I saw the shrimplet trailing behind a female today, like a little duckling follows the mother duck. 🙂
  3. I have mystery snails and I’ve yet to see waste or mulm held in place on glass. It all falls straight down to the substrate. However, if you have a medium or heavily planted tank some waste can land on leaves. My fish, when eating falling waste by accident thinking it’s food, spit it out immediately. However, @Guppysnailsays shrimp eat the snail poop because it’s partially digested and has nutrients, and I believe this is true based on observing my shrimp in a tank with several snails. You may benefit from an auto feeder if you have to be away from home.
  4. There is a song from a movie, 🎼A Dream is a Fish your Heart Makes
  5. That’s what this is. An Aponogeton Crispus. The one on the front left in this photo. The green spot algae is tough. It cannot be scraped off, and reverse respiration (seltzer soak) didn’t seem to affect it.
  6. Well, heh… every time I go to the store I forget to buy the epsom salts (!!) And I got distracted by this other plant making flowers. @MattyM
  7. A second flower is forming! However, I snipped this shoot so the plant can focus on leaves. I kept the other flower. I want to collect seeds from it when they are ready. Amethyst is helping. Geppetto’s lily.
  8. With their big side fins they look like tiny airplanes
  9. Whew - at first I was worried you forgot to keep some. LOL The runts are so cute, right? My runt Goliath is actually growing really good now! It took him a long time, but yep! He's about marble sized now, cruisin all around! (He always was active; just little). I still have that one "snail that is a mystery, but not a mystery snail" Nibbles, that came in on the plant. That was back when I was salt dipping plants; before the RR thread went up. And he hung onto the plant and survived the salt dip. Still his little peppercorn self, but that doesn't stop him. I love that you got a tank out of the deal. Woo hoo!
  10. Good to hear from you @Katherine! I've been wondering how you have been doing. I'm sorry you haven't been well, and I hope you have been able to at least able to get some good rest and recovery. I still see a lot of cute snails in your photos 😍. Looking forward to following along with the rescape. It's always fun - maybe try a plant you've never had before, because why not? Heads up, you have an airline not connected to anything there. Make sure there's a check valve on that guy so it doesn't siphon water out. 😉
  11. Wow! Beautiful tanks! 😍 You should go into the journal section of the forum and start one so we can follow along with everything!
  12. Very nice looking tank! I have a blue betta as well; he's a veiltail. I'm originally from Shamokin, PA - the gool ol' coal region. LOL I have since migrated south. ☀️ I cannot tell what size tank you have, but for water changes on smaller tanks, I just take the rigid part of the gravel siphon off and just use the hose part. That helps me get in between things better. @Guppysnail
  13. There weren't any flowers in there. It was just dirt. My parents are not the landscaping type. Hehe. I put in some plants for them and in the process of digging, I found the rocks. And one cats eye marble. Score! Anyway. I took the rocks home (there were just 2) and I put them in a bucket. Did the ol' nitrate drop test to ensure tank safe. Poured boiling water over them a few times, scrubbed them w/ a toothbrush, then hydrogen peroxide. Then I rinsed in tap water.
