  1. I originally had a Guppy/BN Pleco Breeding Tank but what I found was the BN Plecos did really well and the guppies just weren't breeding as well. I am separating and putting the guppies in a 40 Breeder with guppy grass. I wanted to add corydoras from another tank to give the bottom some activity but didn't want them to disrupt guppy breeding. I don't think they would eat the fry but wanted to have success since I am restarting my breeding operation. Don't care to breed the corydoras if it happens it happens. Putting the BN Plecos in a separate tank with more driftwood and hiding places so they can get attention and have easier access to catch to sell.
  2. I sandwiched the crack with 2 pieces of glass and siliconed them together. It doesn't look great but it should be fine for my breeding purposes. If it leaks I will just break it down and buy a new 40 Breeder. I think it should hold up well. Do you think 24 hours is enough cure type or should I wait longer before the water test?
  3. I purchased a secondhand 40 Breeder for a really good deal. It had a taped on background so I didn't notice until I got home that it had a corner crack. I talked to the seller and got my money back but I still want to salvage the tank somehow. I have a rectangle of glass that is wider than the crack and as high as the back panel that I was planning to silicone over it and then run a bead of silicone along the crack on the outside of the aquarium. When I water tested it was barely weeping through the crack but would still rather be safe than sorry. I know in an ideal world I would replace the whole back panel or just use it for a terrarium. Is this a fool's errand or should it work? I have used squares of glass and silicone to cover bulkhead holes to great success but just want to do this right.
  4. I was able to remove the silicone throughout on the inside. I discovered some tiny rocks and sand wedged between the bottom and side front pane of glass I was able to remove most of it but I still have sand wedged under the trim. I think the best bet is to remove the trim and clean up all the exterior and interior. That way the grit won't put undo pressure on the glass when I refill causing a crack. Re-silicone between those two panes with some clamps and then silicone on the bottom before doing a fully reseal. My issue I have is getting the bottom trim off. I have the front edge loose (mostly from when it failed) but I can't get anything else loose and I don't want to put too much force and either break the trim or the tank. Would a heat gun help loosen the seal between the tank and trim? or is there anything else I should try?
  5. All 3 videos were hard to watch. I hope he can rebuild. I can't even imagine going through that. They will definitely need a lot of support moving forward.
  6. My 55 gallon bottom seal popped at the front and emptied my tank. I was able to rescue the fish. No cracks in the glass that I can see. It only leaked out from around the bottom trim. My reseal plan is to remove the bottom trim. Clean it up and resealicone it in place. Then scrap out and replace the bottom bead of silicone. I was planning on leaving the sides untouched but wanted a 2nd opinion.
  7. Overhauling my whole fish room so moved my Amano Shrimp to my work tank. Found that one of them stole a Vibra Bite.
  8. My female angelfish has a bad swim bladder problem. She is basically completely upside down if she doesn't swim to right her self. I have her in an epsom salt bath now before I put her back in QT. Anything else I should try?
  9. I am not an expert but I feel like you would almost need a basement sump pump to really propel the water up. The one I have for my house shoots water up about 9 feet before going through the regular plumbing to the storm sewer.
  10. Staring at my Co-Op cart and looking for something to feed my livebearer and multi fry? I am not ready to take the plunge on live baby brine yet but was wondering what the benefits are for using Xtreme Nano vs. Co-Op Fry food and vice-versa?
  11. Picked up a breeding group of Pseudotropheus Saulosi at a local swap meet. 9 fish total (3M,6F) between 2 large bags. 1F was not looking so hot so I removed her before traveling home. They were only in the bags in my possession for about 2.5 hours but they were in an insulated cooler. Put them in a 20 Gallon QT with plenty of hides and caves. They were doing fine I fed them small pinches of Xtreme Spirulina Flakes each day. No issues Sunday or yesterday fish looked good and weren't acting unusual but today I found 1M and 1F dead. Not sure what could be the cause. Went ahead and dosed the med trio just to curb any potential problems. 20 Gallon QT is keeping around 77 degrees, PH 7.2, Nitrates <10ppm. Filtration is an Aquaclear 50 and a sponge filter. Not sure what else I should try. Don't want to risk losing any more fish.
  12. After going over the tanks I do have. I am thinking of doing the following set-up of 2 levels: 5' wide version: Top: 30 Gallon (36x12x16) & 20 Gallon (24x12x16) Bottom: 3 - 10 Gallons 4' wide version: Top: 55 Gallon (48x12x12) Bottom: 10 Gallon (QT) & 15 Gallon (24x12x12) Will make both the front level depth 12" and the back level depth 18" to handle upgrade options in the future. Outside these racks I will have a 29 Gallon Aquarium and a 90 Gallon with Sumo. The left over tanks that I will probably sell off include a 55 gallon, a 60 gallon, 3 - 10 gallon, 30 breeder, and my 80 gallon frag tank. Any input will be greatly appreciated!
  13. @Mr_Manifestoand I are on the same page. I think you are on the right track and wish you success! Can't wait to see your fish room set-up!
  14. Since it is all PVC it should be easy enough to put something like below on to feed into a utility sink.
  15. I just have the sump but I wasn't sure how your washer drained if it is hooked up to an ejector pump. If you have a picture of it I can be of more help but potentially you can tap into it but I don't want to risk a leak for you.
  16. Yeah you could put a T on the supply lines for hot and cold for your washer to hook up to a utility sink to drain into your sump pump. I don't know where your washer drains to but in theory you could use that as well.
  17. Most sumps drain either outside of the house or into a storm sewer. Mine drain into the storm sewer so as long as you have freshwater tanks I haven't had any issues with discharging through the sump.
  18. Do you have a sump in your basement? What I did was hook up a utility sink to drain into my sump it and then I luckily had a water supply line (just cold water) down there. So I use a python to the sink drain into the sump pit. My basement is unfinished to so it is really nice and getting water on the floor is not an issue which is a huge plus.
  19. That would actually be pretty impressive too!
  20. @Justin Campbelldid you do all the plumbing and electrical yourself?
  21. I recently watched a video that KG Tropicals made showing a staggered aquarium rack for 6 - 10 Gallon Tanks (shown below) I was thinking of applying the same design for 2 - 55 gallon tanks in my basement fish room. Obviously it would need to be scaled up with 2x4s and changing the supporting. Plan was to have the top of the lower 55 be level with the bottom of the upper 55. that way you have plenty of access with each tank and are utilizing the space effectively. In essence it would basically be having a short 55 gallon stand and a tall 55 gallon stand that just happen to share some of the same supports Am I on the right track or is this a fool's errand?
  22. Everything I have heard is if you plan to sell online you want to focus on a specific strain of guppies. If you want to sell locally. Mixed guppies are the way to go the more colorful and various the better!
  23. @Andy's Fish Den have you built a quad rack for 55 gallon aquariums? I am tempted to make one for my basement fish room but that might be a little extreme.
  24. I had good luck with the Hyper Tough 4' (5000 ln) LED Shop Light on my 80 gallon tank and plan to put 2 on my 90 gallon once I get it set-up in the next couple weeks. They run under $20 each and the light color was great for growing the crypts, val, dwarf sag, and anubias I had in the tank. It also grew my duckweed really well too but thats more of a personal problem. Should do great on your 90!
