  1. I dim the lights and use a big net, have it waiting below the swim line. I send mine to one end of the tank to distract and net up from bellow. Once you start chasing them you might as well give up, until they trust you again..that might take a few hours or a day. Of course you know the "last fish" is going to give you a run for your money! They alway do...
  2. My King Kong Parrot used to consider my arm a toy... and not in a good way!
  3. All God's creatures are special even our fish. Take comfort in knowing you provided Pixel with the best of care. I hope another Betta will be lucky to come into your life when the time is right.
  4. @walstadfanboy They aren't so little when they are full grown, getting to be about 3 inches. I've never kept them with small fish though, having kept my embers and pigmy copies in a nano tank. Rams are like puppies, they beg for attention!
  5. I do well with all types of Crypt's. I enjoy seeing ll the different plants for sale on on the forum page as well. Great way to learn about different varieties.
  6. Always a sure sign of spring... croaking too!
  7. @Brandy It does, doesn't it . But.... ewww! I can only handle detritus worms!
  8. It's great to be handy! @TheDukeAnumber1 Bottom empty is much better as I've found the egg shells at the top end up getting fed to the fry as well if not careful. Have you considered a LED light that you could adjust and aim into your stand? Well done!
  9. If your fish is eating you could try medicating pellet food with Seachem Metro and Kanaplex if you can get it still.
  10. I liked my DIY 1 litre hatchery, I always had 2 going, one to hatch and one to feed. My aeration was airline tubing with a small diameter piece of rigid tubing dropped in the bottle. It sprayed a bit from the top so I cut a plastic lid with hole for the tubing to go through. I solved the temperature issue.... instead of using a lamp I clipped the bottles inside a 5 gallon tank with heater also occupied by the ram fry I was going to keep. Shone the flash light to get the BBS to the top and used a pipette to feed. Loved seeing the fry with little pink bellies after feeding ! The nano tanks gobbled them up too.
  11. I have black screen door screening folded in half, so it it 2 layers under a section of my 36 inch Fluval 3.0. I keep one side of a 40 gallon breeder darker for the Anubis and Java's, and light the other end brighter for the crypts to keep them from getting tall. The Fluval also has a dimmer so I can control that way as well...
  12. I have an elk sanctuary.. up to 15 in the yard daily.
  13. On searching there is a very detailed page on veterinary procedures that also led to another link on care and ownership. Much appreciation @Andy's Fish Den https://skunkhaven.net/VetCare.htm
  14. @Andy's Fish DenDo you have any links on that research I would be very interested. I would agree, Sebastian would have lived beyond his 7 yrs but for he had cardiac disease from the high fat diet he got. I did have a vet visit early in his life due to his having some fur loss. Turned out it was caused by the avocado that I added to his meals as a treat. It was causing toxicity. Thanks for sharing. https://www.aspca.org/news/scoop-avocado-and-your-pets
  15. I've been reluctant to introduce Amano's back into my tanks since they are all occupied by Bolivians now. Low tech and not as well planted as yours with Co2. Seriously thinking of trying Co2 in my 40 gallon breeder and will read up on it more. Kudo's to you for your beautiful display tank.
  16. This might not be a cycle stall at all, In my experience it's not unusual for the ammonia test to read .25 from the API master test kit. It's probably a false positive and has been mentioned often on the internet. My tanks have been established for years and always read .25. You needn't worry unless your ammonia results are .50 or higher, then do water changes. What are your nitrates testing at? As long as they come in at 5 to 20ppm you are doing great. If your fish are happy and you see no unusual symptoms... you are probably doing just fine!
  17. Have a happy time bonding with your new fish!
  18. And now for something different... many years ago. Sabastian was the best "cat" I've ever had and lived to be 7 yrs old.
  19. I don't normally name anything in the community tanks, except one Bristlenose known as "Hoover". My now passed huge King Kong Parrot had his own tank and used to go after me when I did water changes, making me "bomp" him with the syphon to keep him from biting me. He actually drew blood once even though he always looked like he was smiling and friendly..... So he got dubbed "Syd Vicious" It took me a year to learn if fed first his demeanour changed to sweet.
