#STT Seasoned Tank Time Formula (beginning ideas)
Jeff replied to DaveSamsell's topic in General Discussion
This. You got to have one stable baseline, that everyone agrees to. Otherwise, you're going to have 50 million understandings of what seasoned means. -
Anyone from the Co-Op team: any idea on when this plant will be back in stock?

What's the worst advice you received as a beginner?
Jeff replied to ange's topic in General Discussion
You're right, it's not wrong. But, it 's also something that really shouldn't be done. When you have an option to cycle an aquarium without fish, there really is no reason to put any fish through that, fighting Ammonia - regardless of how hardy the fish is. -
Discus really shouldn't be in anything less than a 55 gallon. Preferably 75g + is what I recommend.

Here's a great video on this very hatchery: -

What's your dream aquarium product that doesn’t exist?
Jeff replied to pedrofisk's topic in General Discussion
This is a great idea. Why don't you think they've made one for freshwater?- 729 replies

What's your dream aquarium product that doesn’t exist?
Jeff replied to pedrofisk's topic in General Discussion
A tool that can tell me with 100% accuracy if a list of fish for a future tank would work, and/or if the list would be overstocking the tank. AqAdvisor is obviously out there, but that doesn't tell the whole story.- 729 replies

Any recommended charcoal?

We're going to have part of our house professionally painted soon. What's the best preventative maintenance of protecting a tank, without moving it? Cover with a think plastic drop cloth? I do have a glass top on it.

Every time I see ridiculous beautiful tanks (MD Fish Tanks, George Farmer, Green Aqua), they always are topless. Now, most are rimless....but that doesn't mean they can't have tops. My question is: how do these people not lose fish from jumping? Anytime I've ever tried this, fish jump. So, I've always had a lid. I even had floating plants, and had the water level not at the top...and they still jumped. Anyone have any insight on this, as to how these people don't have this problem?

Like I said, I wasn't worried. I'm not a number chaser. My parameters are consistent week to week. It doesn't hurt to have lower Nitrates, so I was curious. I have definitely learned a lot from all the input. So, thanks to everyone for chiming in. I at least have options now.

Tested the tap today. Zero Nitrates in it.

I tried a floating plant before. Salvinia Minima. I created a tube ring to put them in, and they still kept floating near the filter, and getting wet. Was more of a hassle than anything. Took that out. I'll contemplate the Pothos in my filter. Thanks.

I'm not one to chase numbers, and everything is going good in my tank. But, in what ways can I lower my Nitrates? They're consistently 40ppm on a weekly basis. API Master Test Kit is used. I have a 10g planted tank. Plants include: Anubias Nana Petite, Crypt Wendtii Green, Crypt Parva, Rosette Sword, Bacopa Caroliniana, Anubias Frazeri, Crypt Lutea, Banana Plant, Ammania Gracilias, Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus, Dwarf Aquarium Lily. Livestock: 5 Chili Rasboras, 7 Ember Tetras, 3 Kubotai Rasboras Inverts: 1 Nerite snail, 2 Blue Velvet Shrimp I do weekly water changes. I rinse out my AquaClear 30 every water change, I squeeze out the sponge in tank water, and change out the filter floss. My GE T8 4100k Florescent is on a 7 hour light cycle - on a timer.

No, I typed it correctly. My point is, you shouldn't do this -regardless of the fish. Having a fish go through the cycling process with Ammonia is not ethically right, IMO. Since there's ways of cycling without fish, why would you cycle with one? -

A group of friends who are all in a fantasy football league together. It's HILARIOUS. Definitely an underrated, not talked about enough show.

Cool! I look forward to seeing pics of your tank. I'll get some of mine up soon. I had some Rainbow fish in my 60g. They're some of my favorite freshwater fish.
