  1. My rainbow shiner are fine on bbs. This is the only thing that is different from the 2 batch. White cloud is a species that are ment to eat mainly from the surface and with bbs in front of them the whole time, can it cause it? Is it a bad habit that force the body to adapt?
  2. Ok i have to hear you guys/gals thought on this. Same parents, 2pair , 2 different set. First set have an huge under bite, and second set is 100% fine. They are about 1 month apart in age. They are raise the same, in a 10 gallon bare bottom, with 1 sponge filter, almost same control, other than feed. Can it be genetic? Environment? Feed? I'm guessing is due to feeding too much bbs? First batch was born around the same time I was feeding bbs to my rainbow shiner fry, so they got bbs twice a day from 2week to 8week of age with their normal .1mm pellets. Second batch didn't get that luxury, they would have gotten at most 2 weeks of bbs before I stopped. So the question is.. is too much bbs bad? Will this genetic carry on to their fry? I would like to hear from you @Dean’s Fishroom since you bred in high number and @Cory with your experience. Plus everyone else since i can't tag you all lol In nature GNA can change and adjust/adapt to new obstacles pretty quick. I highly doubt ill use the first batch in any of my breeding programs to be on the safe side.
  3. I bred rainbow darter a long time ago, did get a few fry from 2 set but very little, I wouldn't say it was a success...I got lucky It was a 10 gallon with an aquaclear 70 on the side. With gravel at the bottom and a few big rock. Also had a sponge on the inlet. The filter was overkill but thats how they like it and the spawn next to the side wall of the bigger rock.
  4. Just got done rehoming them. It was fun but I won't miss it Europe Dobemman
  5. My goal is to take common fish and bring the best out of them. Why should only guppy have all the fun? Lol
  6. If you plan to breed them you would want quality stock so I would go with Greg sage, but if its just want to have them in your aquarium it doesn't really matter, the average fish keeper would be happy with either one. Also they might not know how to bring out the best out of Greg fish. Most of the time when breeding fish they are at their peak condition.
  7. Putting 2 pair together, hopefully their fry will be old enough to work with this summer. I'll be ready for this year summer tubbing! Breeding- crossing out, crossing back in, introducing new blood from the gold, introducing new blood from the regular longfin....breeding uncle to niece, aunt to nephew...... Doing everything i can to keep them clean.

  11. Thats pretty cool, thats one reason I wanted to work with greenhead shiner since they are native to my water and I can away go out and collect more...very now and then you'll get 1 that's really nice.
  12. I could be wrong but I think they are protected now??. Or it may have been just certain location. Its easier if you join nanfa and then they'll share more information and locations points. Are there sub species? Maybe. But the one from Europe are all just rainbow shiner, they been working with them longer than we have, but they have alot of deformity. As for more red mine look pretty close view from above also. So I dont know unless I see them in person.
  13. Be careful Notropis can cross breed If its not control it can get out of hand and ruin the species. Unless you plan to keep working with their F1s
  14. I use to have a few saffron shiner a few years back, didn't have the space and got rid of them. Saffron have a yellow line above their head that runs all the way around the fish. The 2nd video are rainbow shiner but they are more orange than red. Wild fish will depend on where are they located at. I have greenhead now, here a photo in breeding color. Planning on working with them if I have room this year.
  15. Yes it can't run dry, so the bulb is to prime it first. And I have a off/on switch also at the plug.
