  1. The video is wild stock, thats just how they look fire up in the wild. As for my setup the rainbow shiner eggs hatch in the pond with my white cloud breeder
  2. All 3 fish are male that are different in age From the top view they look darker
  3. This is my experience with them. I bred them for many year but only just recently started keeping record. Let me start with wild stock. they are within a few southeastern state and will varies in color in different stream. The photo you posted are 3 male and 1 female in breeding color all fire up. they will fire up in home aquarium just like how they do in pond. how much color and how long they stay fire up is base on the family you get. the wild stock have 2 color base that i know off a blue and a red. blue will have more blue one their whole body even when not fire up, and red look kinda like plan gold body minnow with little to no blue but when fire up they have a rich dark red. there's no dominant male being more colorful, when its time to fire up all the male will fire up together. the older the fish gets the more color they will start showing as their normal color. the very dark red you see are most likely the UK line, their color are amazing but they have some deformity, atleast in some photo i have seen. we are very lucky to have they ability to clean them back up with our native wild stock if deformity show up, but i haven't seen anyone really working with them here. And yes they can be kept with rainbow darters. my line is base of the blues and they stay fire up almost all year after they get old enough. My main goal is to get a family that will fire up and stay fire up at a younger age so the lfs can show off their true beauty. most of the time they look like plan minnow at the store, being the reason they are not as popular in our hobby.
  4. I work with mainly white cloud and rainbow shiner, rosy barb on the side. Mainly Coldwater fish. I would love to work with comet goldfish if I had the water space, but I dont.....yet 😆
  5. Clouds won't eat their babies, but will hunt for baby shrimp, unless you cover the whole bottom up with a plant
  6. Yes as a breeder that my responsibility, and every generation after that.
  7. Decided to put the breeder back together yesterday. No luck, the females wasn't ready so I pull the fish back out the next day Here's the male half way turn off since I put them in this glass container
  8. In NC all you need is a fishing license to collect, but you'll have to stay out of statepark and stream with native trout. There is also a creek limits but its in the 100s. Native fish can be share but not sold.
  9. They look amazing, I normally grow some swordtail out in my koi pond every year. Might try some of those next year.
  10. What kind of swordtail are those? I love how simple they look
  11. Sweet, the one keep out side are pretty red also, the weather just got to the low 30 and I had to bring them back inside
  12. Anyone out there working these fish? I would love to see picture and hear all about it. This is my 3rd generation with me, still pretty young about 6 month. I want them to hold their fin out wider, they don't have to be any longer than this. After I get their body conformation right, I'll start working on their color.
  13. Pretty easy, they do lay eggs but they stick it to plants and they don't really bother their fry much if you give them cover
  14. These are F1 males cross with my buddy line with mine the female is 100% his I already bred a set of F1 on F1 Now I'm breeding a set of F1 to Aunt Goal : trying to widen the gene pool without going out too far
  15. I'm sure we do! It's good to see fish bring so many people together
  16. An update these are pure golden longfin F4 males at 7 month old ...female dont look good yet
  17. Those 2 brand are fine, wish the krill came in pellets, and wish the bugbites was smaller but they are good food I use a mixture of .5 pellets Of Xtreme and kens
  18. The hardest part is making sure the fry gets enough food when they hatch out. I normally use a 10gallon, with 2 pair, with a slow flowing filter for 1-2 week. My adult dont get any live food, so they aren't aggressive for live food (fry)lol. They spawn everyday so you'll get fry hatching everyday. They normally don't eat their eggs or bother their fry..just keep them full
  19. Yes the average fish keep wont be able to tell the difference. The top breeder aim for mainly color. So their conformation is a bit off. If you notice how short his face is.
  20. Just wanted to share the difference in preferences between 2 breeder. Both 16month old This from a local breeder, 11 year of working with his stock My stock from 8 years worth of work, phone wouldn't focus and lighting is a bit different in this aquarium vs the other. I wonder what you guys are working with?
  21. I do play with them I like mine with blue shell pink body leopard
  22. I normally bring F4 x P1 for one set F4 X uncle or aunt And F4 x outcross I do my best to widen out the gene pool as much as possible while keeping the traits I want. Any fish that show deformity or wrong conformation is cull.
