  1. I have to agree with @Arcite I have listened to almost all of @Cory videos and he truly believes in a complete ecosystem that includes snails. Im not saying there isnt something out there but something that only affects snails and not shrimp I have not heard of. What kind of snails are these and what size tank? I had a 90 planted tank long ago with shrimp and I didnt want snails...that was before I knew the benefits of them. I added in a clown loach and in a matter of a week or so...not a snail to be found and all the shrimp were untouched.
  2. Well After almost 5 days to finally arrive...my local USPS SUCKS ASS!...My Aquarium Co-Op order finally arrived yesterday. I went home last night and opened all the boxes...I love how there was a packing slip in every box to tell you what should be in it so you are not having to try to remember what you ordered. Everything was packaged perfectly....not a wasted space in the box. All items were correct and came perfectly except 2 plants. I ordered 6 total plants, they all arrived looking great except my 2 water sprites melted into nothing. Those were going to be my floating plants for shade and fry sanctuary. I took a large plastic tote I had ...filled it up with water. Placed all the plants in it along with a sponge filter and using the USB pump (that thing is not almost silent...IT IS SILENT) and put a bright light over them. Gave the tote a couple squirts of easy green and have my finger crossed that I dont murder them lol. Putting together my next order now for more stuff ...including more plants! Thank you @Cory and the whole Aquarium Co-Op team...you guys rock!
  3. ANd just like that ....I have been schooled. Didnt even think of that and you are so correct....Duh! I guess I was thinking I wanted to make sure I was dosing properly but you are right. Start light and let the plants tell you what they need instead of chasing a number. We say it all the time with water parameters and people trying to chase a number rather than just keeping it stable. Thank you @Cory for teaching me and saving me money at the same time! Now I can buy more plants!!
  4. I would agree with this if it is confined to a small area....if it is running all over the tank ....Removing as much as possible and then dosing with the antibiotic is really the only solution other than tearing down the tank and bleaching everything. I fought it in a 90 gallon planted tank and it kicked my ever lasting behind until I nuked the tank. Now I focus on prevention rather than removal. I feel horrible for people who experience this situation....Its a nightmare.
  5. I was wondering....Aquarium Co-Op is all about planted community aquariums. An essential nutrient Iron is something we need to keep an eye on. They even sell Easy Iron to help us maintain Iron but I am surprised to see that they do not offer an Iron test kit....I am sure there is a great reason but I am wondering why? @Cory Is there one he likes but doesnt carry? Looking for reccomendations.
  6. Litterally you have baby leeches?!? WOW
  7. Thats good to know....are they small enough for guppys to eat them? Im starting my first guppy pond and I am worried about everything....LOL RIght now I have pictures in my head of a leach hitching a ride on the back of ne of my guppies sucking it dry...😱
  8. As far as the best inventions in history ...the order has to be.... @Bill Smith Tab Plunger and then sliced bread. @Bill Smith You sir are genius!! Making multiple sizes of these now....Including a 36" one for my pond. Cant say thank you enough!!
  9. I second that request....I always loved how those looked!!
  10. Unfortunately for me ...there are no good LFS and I live in south florida. You must be thinking ...WTH there are fish stores every where...true, there are alot but 99 percent of them is Saltwater specialty shops...so I dont go to them. The couple that do offer freshwater stuff....do not quarantine at all and sometimes because of rushing around dont even acclimate .....just dump and go (yes I have witnessed it myself). There is a new place dedicated to freshwater but its 90 min away and opens and closes while I am at work and is closed on sundays ...my day off...figures lol So currently my best LFS is the Co-op for dry goods and plants. @Cory If you ever decide to have a second store and warehouse on the east coast (you would make a killing)...make it Florida and I'll come work for you!
  11. If that right there does not prove that fish have feelings and personalities all their own ....nothing will. I found that kinda awesome...lol
  12. I am wondering ....If there was fish in the tank would they eat them?
  13. From what you said 3-400 per month of income...You are proving your self very nicely. I will be asking you some tips in the future...lol
  14. Everybody has to start somewhere...I was just given permission to convert a 10x10 room into a fish room. My head is swimming with ideas and trying to think how to fit it all into one room. I would love to breed some things to be able to sell to help pay for this hobby. Thought of breeding shrimp, fancy guppies and some Variatus come to mind. So the research continues as to proper tank sizing and I want to have auto water changing system in place.
  15. I personally would not do a water change. I know everybody is going to freak at that comment but since this is a planted tank I would just wait for the nitrite to become 0. Maybe another week but by that time your plants are going to be better established. They are part of your balanced eco system. You really want your Nitrates to be between 40-50 ppm for a planted tank. The plants remove the Nitrates as they feed...so dont add any more ferts until you see Nitrates dropping then maintain them at 40. This is just my opinion and what I have gathered from others who keep planted aquariums. Wish you the very best of luck and hope you will send some pics and let us enjoy your new tank journey with you.
  16. Forgot to answer the substrate question...I was thinking of using Pool filter sand as my substrate. With some crushed coral mixed in to maintain the hardness. This will be a planted guppy pond when finished. I am really enjoying your thoughts and insights. @Mmiller2001
  17. I never even thought of dry ferts. Easy green seemed well....EASY...lol What ferts are you refering to and where would I get them. Doing the math if I was using easy green 500 ml bottle would last me 3 1/2 weeks if I was dosing from 0 to 30 ppm every week...15 bottles a year....hadnt thought that part thru very well....LOL
  18. Well for complete clarity...lol I am setting up a new outdoor pond.....150 gallons Rubbermaid Container. My lighting will be...well the SUN...Im guessing that could be considered high lighting lol. I will not be dosing Co2. I will have 2 large sponge filters one on either side of the pond. Water will be from a well. It tests out at 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrates. ph of 7.4 and Gh/Kh of about 180 ppm. So with this information ....I am calculating with each pump being 1ml....to get to 30 ppm nitrates I will need to use...1ml per gallon or 150 ml to start the pond with the plants to be at 30 ppm nitrates. WOuld you concur? Would you dose easy iron at startup and if yes what would your thoughts to as far as initial dose and maint dosing?
  19. This chart is great. So if I am understanding it correctly....if i have a 20 gallon tank brand new setup and nitrates are 0....to get to say 30 ppm of NO3...i would need 20 pumps of easy green? And if so then what should my target Iron be in above said setup in ppm? @Mmiller2001
  20. I am sorry I cannot help you solve your dilema but had to tell you ...that tank looks incredible. WOuld love to see some better close up pics of it! Hope you figure those guys out!
  21. Couldnt agree more!! Aquarium Co-Op name and @Coryis known everywhere and they set the example every Aquarium Shop could use as a template.
  22. WOW simply stunning!! Congrats on the new babies... Wishing best of luck for all of them!
  23. Wow things are progressing nicely!! Congrats on the fish room startup @Stealth Aquatics . I cant wait to see how the egg hatching goes. Good Luck!
  24. I am going to go out on a limb and say the shrimp are liking it. With the bee pollen and duckweed I bet his shrimp are super healthy ...I wish I could get a colony like his.
