  1. Thank you! That seems right in line with what I read. For some reason I thought I heard a long YouTube video where Cory mentioning that planaria weren’t necessarily a problem in a planted tank. At first I wasn’t too worried, but I have new shrimp hatching every few days days/weeks and I don’t anything to happen to them. I do feed this tank heavily since I have about 12 Pygmy corys, 5 Venezuelan corys and only 4 nano rasboras. I have searching for more chili rasboras to add to the tank but no one has them. Plus 50 or more shrimp. with so many bottom feeders, but only 4 very small fish, I am not sure how to exactly make sure everyone is getting enough food. I feed usually 2 foods once a day Fish flakes and insect bites, or frozen daphnia and hikari shrimp pellets, or freeze dried tubifex worms and golden pearls so I try to give the nano fish something, but the bottom feeders will eat anything and it’s hard to make sure they both get enough. Plus I am leaving for almost 2 weeks soon and was going to increase feeding them and fast them while I was gone Any thoughts on feeding? TIA
  2. Hi everyone, Two nights ago I saw a weird worm like creature on my driftwood. I did some research and thought maybe it was planaria. The next day, knowing what characteristics to look for found several more and yes they are definitely planaria. 20 long planted tank and the water changes based on stable water chemistry, I do one about every 2 weeks. I don’t gravel vac much at all to leave the mulm for the plants. so, since I have breeding shrimp in the tank what should I do about the planaria? Thanks so much!
  3. Any advice on a good quality macro lens for an iPhone 11 Pro? I bought one for my older iPhone and i dropped it on the driveway. Screen cracked immediately. The lens is brand new, never even got a chance to use it. 😕 Also my 2 tanks, soon to be replaced with one 75 gallon and keeping just the 20 long, are in a bright southern exposure with a ton of natural light I don’t have room for a fish room and I like my tanks in my living space. I will be posting a question in the algae section in the next few days. But there has to be a way without darkening the room. when is the best time of the day to take pictures? There are so many reflections, the pictures are terrible any ideas?
  4. Hi Jason, I have been going through your tank updates on this thread and have a few questions on your dirted tanks. How deep is the dirt and then the depth of your cap? Also, it looks like you have several red crypts in some different tanks. I can I’d them if you don’t know the ones I am referring to. What are they? I really enjoyed reading through a bunch of your pages. Cheers, Nanci
  5. Hi all, I searched through posts for information on adding photos to posts and profiles, but did not find any I want to start adding photos and start tank journals, but cannot find any guidelines for size and when I tried to add one as my profile picture it was upside down and I couldn’t see a way to rotate it. Looking forward to getting answers! TIA Nanci
  6. Anyone know when Cory is leaving and when he will be back? Thanks!
  7. Thanks so much! I spent about 6 hours yesterday on YouTube watching different videos. I loved the fish room tour from Zenzo and now I got to watch this other one with Cory’s rare fish! cheers, nanci
  8. Because bettas are curious, I prefer having them in a community tank with the types of fish you mentioned. My boy checked out the whole planted tank going in and out of plants and driftwood. He would flare sometimes, but it wasn’t a problem. I ended up giving him away because my cherry shrimp were breeding and I was just getting the colony started. If the betta has to be alone I would rather have a betta in a larger tank with lots of plants and wood to keep them thinking. cheers, Nanci
  9. Thanks, I will look here. I didn’t know about asking questions here on the forum. I will definitely try that!
  10. Just saw other post that no livestream today.
  11. Has anyone heard whether there will be a live video from Cory today? TIA
  12. Just the other day I was at my LFS looking for some wood for a 5 gallon. Since the store had plenty of aquarium tanks unboxed, I asked if I could use one of their 5 gallon tanks to play around with some pieces of wood. It is very helpful to have the whole tank there with the glass to confine the wood to see if it works.
  13. My favorite Rainbowfish is the Threadfin Rainbowfish —Iriatherina werneri i had seven in my 55 and their behavior was so interesting! The males constantly spar and flash their dorsal fins. Check out a video. They are incredible!
  14. Thanks, I would love to try AquaHuna, but they are usually out of what I want. 😕
  15. Hi everyone, I bought 5 chili rasbora (all they had) and when I got home 2 had died. So 3 left. Then overnight I lost 2 more. This was all in my QT. Now I only have one left along with 11 happy Pygmy corys in my 10 gallon quarantine tank. I can order some online with a hefty $40 shipping fee. Or I was wondering if I should try to locate some other similar sized and behavior nano fish to put with the rasbora. I have been dreaming of these little fish and don’t know what happened. 😭 what do you all think?
  16. These are all great ideas. I really appreciate everyone’s responses!
  17. I’m confused. You posted this on Monday, June 21, 2021 however you state that Nerm Week is June 12-17? It seems as if the timing is off. Have we missed it? Thanks!
  18. Since this is for cleaning a used quarantine tank that I need to use again (of course later today 🙄) I believe I do need to clean it and the heater I am putting in it. I finally have an seeded sponge filter so that will help.
  19. This article from the blog might help explain: https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/sponge-filters-the-easiest-fish-tank-filter-ever
  20. It’s the best way to see natural behaviors. That’s my current plan, once I convince my neat/tidy husband that it will look great in our front room with the other tanks! I don’t have a dedicated fish room! Lol
  21. So, as the title states, what do people think of using vinegar as a disinfectant for QT tanks and other equipment like nets, heaters ? I ask because I am not a fan of bleach at all. I’m really sensitive to the smell and I will be cleaning this 20 gallon tank inside on its stand. So no running water to get a really good rinse. Thoughts? PS, I am having a tough time figuring out how to reply to messages, so please know that I appreciate all comments.
  22. Hi Ken! Are you part of the Great Salt Lake Aquarium Society?
  23. Thanks for the welcome. Yes I own and have read both books. For aquascapers, they have some great ideas, but most of the tanks shown are high light, hi-tech and CO2 tanks. So besides beautiful pictures not much for me to replicate. Inspire yes, but too much to do to get that perfect look. I have also read part of Diana Walstad’s Ecology of the Planted Tank. It’s hard science and I am a wannabe scientist. Anyway, with my terrestrial gardens, long ago I came to the conclusion that nature is messy and not perfect. I had not come across Cory and his theories about algae and plant growth in growing a seasoned tank, but it makes total sense. I would definitely recommend that folks take a look at the books, Aquascaping in particular, as it does have some builds in it, 6 if I am remembering correctly, but no index, which to me is a major flaw. Anyway thanks for the warm welcome! “Seek Beauty Every Day”
