  1. @Odd Duck I will have to practice on the smallest ones to get the hang of it. I am not a DIY person. Most projects I love are way too advanced for me.
  2. @Jungle Fan do you have any heating pads under his favorite places to sleep? Senior cats love those. And with arthritis and muscle loss and just being creaky and older, it makes them feel better. 🥰
  3. @Guppysnail crypts in particular the roots go on and on… 😜
  4. I am planning to take before after plant pictures on a white towel. speaking of plants, I am concerned about damaging my plants roots. I thought maybe if I use a kitchen ladle to scoop up the plant with substrate and plant with hopefully roots also. I have 27 crypts to remove in addition to some others. Thoughts?
  5. @Guppysnail Thank you! I had a feeling that putting the sponge filter through RR would kill the bb. I did do a light cleaning of the filter when I removed the bba as much as possible, but I will be more thorough in a few weeks. I couldn’t believe how weird that algae is. I do need to put my plants through RR, I have 27 crypts that are covered with staghorn. I also have other plants that need help. I appreciate the graphics to accompany your post. It can really make a difference. I haven’t used that area before, but am going to do a reboot of my 75 post RR. I didn’t get any pictures before I took out the bba, so no alien pictures, but the starting ones will have to do
  6. @procyg Thsnk you! I appreciate your reply. The superglue topic has been resolved! 🙂
  7. Thank you for posting the link. I feel rather dorky, because I don’t see a journals section. Now found the journals section. Thanks 🙏🏻
  8. I am not sure why because I was reading and thought I saved it, but I cannot locate both the long article and the thread with everyone’s questions. I am wondering if you can put a sponge filter through RR when it has a ton of algae, but will it kill the bb?
  9. If you do get a cat tree try putting it near a window and then placing a bird feeder within sight so the cats have yet another interesting thing to watch. Here is my Bengal not watching the fish, but sleeping. I’m sure you can see why! Adicia used to do this on top of my 55g open top and it scared me to death. I was afraid she would not be able to get out without help. (Oh that orientation thing is annoying!!)
  10. Pi was just going to say the same thing about watching Jackson Galaxy’s YouTube channel. You will learn a lot.
  11. I am starting to think that glue will definitely have limitations. Do I need to use a special drill bit because of the slate? I’m surprised about getting such a conversation going myself, but I am enjoying all the input and ideas!
  12. @evilgenius I love your tank! It reminds me of a primordial world with those massive “trees” spread throughout the tank and that beautiful anubias on the far left in the back! What did you use for the background? That is where the word primordial popped into my head as if dawn was coming over the horizon and the viewer is treated to a sight that very few get to see. Nice! 🤩
  13. @Fish Folk , @Patrick_G , @Opie I already have the pearlweed in my main tank, floating until it gets planted. But I just added some frogbit and that has helped to make them less skittish. Everyone has their own opinion regarding how to QT fish, and that is great. My opinion is that natural wood and plants give the fish more security during this transition. Particularly because I order nano fish. It works for me. I do understand that in quarantine, things can go sideways, but I would rather err on the side of security.
  14. I am having a tough time finding a decent variety of mosses besides Java moss in my location. I’m rather shocked. Could I grab a small clump of pearlweed and spread it out on top of the water to give my new fish (if they aren’t dead by the time they arrive today) some security while in the QT? TIA
  15. @Brandon pI do understand that, but because the wood hasn’t been up in any water for months it’s not going to stay anywhere. Normally I set up all the hardscape outside with a fake background, some substrate and set it all up and rearrange it several times. But the tank has fish in it. So I am going to have to do a version of this but it will definitely be weird
  16. @Brandon p Yep I have the correct kind. I actually just heard a hack from another YouTuber (won’t mention name because I can’t remember if that’s allowed). She recently heard about an aquascaping tip she learned at a big conference. There is a product that is a 2 step process with a regular gel superglue and then a second product that sets the superglue much quicker than normal. so I will use that after using the gel superglue. I will try and remember to take pictures before I put it in the tank. Due to the massive algae attack (all my fault of course) I took all hardscape out of tank and will be trying the RR protocol. So once again I am aquascaping backwards with fish (but not very many nano fish in the tank. 😂 Maybe now is the time to start a tank journal. 75 gallon 2.0
  17. Good point. These are exceptional light dry branches. I am going to take one to Home Depot to show a staff member and get opinions on what size screws would be a good fit. Also, on the superglue video, the author was also putting in other branches into the mix horizontally, so by those might be a good choice for the superglue particularly if the wood pieces are kind of woven and stuck between other pieces that are screwed in. My pH sometimes reaches 8. So I am not sure if drywall screws are better in acidic water or alkaline water. Which one would be problematic? Alkaline?
  18. @Brandxn yes I know the proper type of superglue that is fish/aquarium safe. Thanks!
  19. I am considering superglue because some of my manzanita branches have a small diameter and I am afraid it would crack if drilled.
  20. @Flumpweesel, @Rusty Sprinkler thanks for the screw warning. I also saw another video from a well know aquascaper, and he used superglue. Anyone use superglue?
  21. Thanks for pointing that out. I do intend to sell my assassin snails, and then buy a male nerite and at least one or more mystery snails depending on how fast they reproduce. I don’t want to be overwhelmed with snails again.
  22. Someone in another thread mentioned wood in their new tank would not stay in the bottom of the tank. Can you use slate tiles from the flooring department from Home Depot/Lows to screw the wood to? TIA
  23. @Guppysnail Thanks for those two heads up. I agree about the potential nervousness, but unless the —to be planted plants—have any algae, they will remain in the tank also there is frogbit almost covering the surface. So they will still have those and the sponge filters for shelter. I will definitely keep an eye on parameters.
