  1. I am not a fan of the "nature" version messy is right. My guppies eat them, but it clouds the water fast.
  2. Howdy Nerms, So I got a 32 gallon Fluval flex for Christmas and my wife loves it! (My tank, but she loves it, two birds right) The question I have is the Aquasky light seems awful dim with just one light, will my plants flourish.? There is room for another but I wanted fellow Nerms opinions first. What can I do in this situation? Your thoughts are welcome, Tedrock.
  3. I use the WiFi timer for a power strip that has my filters on them. That way when I do a major water change I shut them down from the phone without unplugging the strip or filters. You could do the same for the heaters but I get worried I would forget to turn that strip back on and the tanks would all go unheated.
  4. Let me ask how often are you feeding the shrimp? I ask this because I have made this mistake time and time again like an Italian grandmother. Mangia! Mangia! I want my Shrimp to be happy and healthy so I fed them daily. These worms whatever they are multiple when too much food is present, even if we can't see it. Since it is a shrimp tank vacuuming is a problem. Suggestions for you include - 1. Stop feeding and algae - shrimp will feed off the plants for a while. 2. Maybe vacuum the substrate - I would look for videos on this to avoid losing the baby shrimp. 3. Last resort a dewormer - I use No-Planeria or you can you Panacur c There are tons of videos on youtube that taught me. I suggest this one. I hope this helps, Tedrock
  5. Well this is definitely Sunday on the East Coast. I have a twofer shot for you. Cherries and Rabbits. See if you eye the cory.
  6. I tried the same thing. Initially it was fine but then I discovered the tails of the guppies became shredded. This always happened when I wasn’t around. The puffers would nip at the tails but the shredding happened when the lights went off. I checked water conditions and they were fine. I moved the puffers and the shredding stop. So just keep a close eye on those tails.
  7. Wow now that is science! I didn’t think the thanks button did your work justice!
  8. Here is pictures of the first day for the tiger mosaic half moon guppy fry in the ziss hatchery. The grown guppies are brothers to the fry. So I expect them to run true. These are destined for a local fish store. I will keep updating this thread as news develops. Many thanks, Tedrock
  9. I am raising these fish right now and while this is isn’t “normal” I wouldn’t be concern yet. It could be stringy sticky residue stretched into a line. Just keep an eye on it it my suggestion.
  10. This is frustrating I bought 10 to start a breeding group and the seller swore the were true Julii. I was nervous considering the investment but I should have known better. They are good cory’s I just am disappointed.
  11. I am a high school History teacher of 22 years. I used to produce and direct the plays for the HS as well until my children were born - family first. It is here were I became an amateur carpenter as my wife likes to call me - I really enjoyed designing and building complex sets. Now I specialize in Holocaust studies and sociology - Justice and Society class. I spent some time doing union work serving the educator's were I worked. It was after leaving that "part time work" that I discovered the zen balance my life lacked - fish keeping. What a joy it has been. Thank the lord my wife has been supportive.
  12. Can you take a look at these pictures and let me know if these fish are true Julii Corydoras? I have read many places on the internet and I just get more confused. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks Tedrock
  13. I just used No Planaria in a shrimp and snail tank and all is well. I only used one dose and kept a close eye on them. I felt it was necessary because I am trying to launch a colony and if I didn't it would be a risk.
  14. Tanks usually come in on the trucks for Thursday to restock for the weekend. I have been told by mgr’s the orders are based on the weeks prior sales so if stock gets wiped during this week it is usually takes two weeks to rebuild the stock of tanks - if inventory is available at distribution warehouses. Geez I really NERMed that one. Who chats up local petco store mgr’s to get to know supply chain logistics? Please don’t judge.
  15. I had fry in the tank and was nervous about hydra snacking on them. One dose of no planeria did the trick.
  16. I bought three - ten gallons today. Filling up the fishroom.
  17. There is so much to unpack here. I really like all the data. I will be visiting the bulk reef videos for sure. The RODI filter will be a christmas present so I have time to research.
  18. I found these In my search but wondered how they stacked up against more expensive models. Thank you for the info.
  19. I agree I don’t need it for normal conditions. Yet the Caridina shrimp need really soft water. I don’t think I can buffer it down low enough.
  20. While I can totally geek out with tech, I would like some recommendations on RODI systems. I am hoping to do caridina shrimp and this is pretty much a requirement. I never had one before and do not know what is best. I don’t plan to go saltwater anytime soon so a simple system with low waste is preferred. What are your thoughts? Many thanks, Tedrock.
  21. I finally get to put in a utility sink with pump and run plumbing to the fishroom side of the basement, no more python up to the first floor bathroom! What I now need is recommendations or experience. I want to avoid mishaps. Fist off what type of pump should I use for the sink inline or sump/drain pump? As you can see there are different types and kinds. Power, pump height, and gallons per min is to be considered. I also would like to do an automatic water change system for phase two of the project. So please any ideas or thoughts are appreciated. Many thanks, Tedrock
  22. I love the interactive map - I typed in many states to see if there would be a difference (I am the only weird one to do it). Joke is on us. No difference which I already knew, 2-3 days. I find the humor in that. I don't know if that is funny to the Coop because that graphic costs money to make and now host. Still it reinforces the obvious 2-3 days everywhere in the U.S. The Website looks slick though, your work is paying off. That is a honest, slightly bias, but educated opinion.
  23. One con is that the app only has a like button where the computer platform has many more choices.
  24. I totally like the app because I am not near a “computer” when I have the time to check in. The app needs some work but it is still nice to have. I find page transfers loads faster on my iPhone then the internet login in.
