  1. Can you explain what a catalytic carbon filter does that a normal carbon filter doesn't do?
  2. Yes, it's chloramine. I know that is present and just assumed chlorine was also present.
  3. I'd like to setup an automatic water change system. I know my water has chloramin and I'm assuming chlorine as well. What filters are people using for their water in order to get rid of these chemicals? Is it best to just add a whole home system or should I add a set of filters in-line for my auto water changes?
  4. What will the cargo containers be used for? Just storage or something else fish related?
  5. Where do you find daphnia? I'm in VA, so just a bit north of you, I'd love to add some daphnia to some of my tanks.
  6. I'm breeding some Rhadinocentrus ornatus. Not a huge amount of success so far, but making some progress and growing out some fry at the moment. Hoping for additional fry soon though.
  7. I like these ideas. I believe I will be able to follow your directions in my case Candi. I hadn't thought of a paint brush, that's a great idea.
  8. Most of the algae that my tanks get I can either tolerate or get rid of. This one continues to cause me trouble in one tank. Any tips to get rid of it? Right now it is on a few rocks and one or two plants. It would be hard to take everything out to treat at this time. Is there something I can add to the water column by chance?
  9. What size drainage pipe should I use? Seems everyone uses 2", but could I use smaller? I'm going to need to cut some holes in walls to install this tube so smaller is better.
  10. I have some fry in one of my tanks, about 2-3 weeks old at this point. They are Rhadinocentrus fry. I'm currently feeding them Coop fry food twice a day and brine shrimp once. I'm heading out of town next weekend. I'm unsure if I'll be able to have someone feed them while I'm gone. I'll be leaving Friday and returning Sunday evening. Anything I should do to ensure they survive?
  11. These are great. I have a couple around the fish room already anyway, seem to work fairly well and are easy enough to make. I may add two to each tank, just to ensure the overflow works in a case where one looses the siphon.
  12. Thank you all. Guess I'll head to Michaels and see if they have anything interesting. Appreciate the help.
  13. I envy those that have auto water change systems. Having the ability to change 10% or so daily would be awesome, especially in fry tanks.
  14. Is there an easy way to overflow the water out if I don't want to drill my tanks? This isn't possible on many of my tanks unfortunately.
  15. I'd like to set up a terrarium but having some trouble finding items for it. Where is a good place to buy the actual glass terrarium? I've found a few, but none that are exactly what I'd like. I can't find a place that has a good selection. What are other good resources to buy the terrarium supplies? Serpa Design has been an awesome resource for ideas and materials, just wish I could find some of the items he uses more easily. Thanks for your help.
  16. I have a rocker in front of my display tanks. So peaceful.
  17. Congrats on the new house! Already looking forward to seeing the videos from this fish room build out.
  18. Great idea, thanks Candi. BTW: "good stuff" in regards to Tupperware reminds me of my mother. LOL
  19. This year has passed me by but I want to start planning early for a tub or two next year. I plan to purchase one of the 100 gallon Rubbermaid tubs within a week or two. I'd like to set this tub up away from my home a bit. I was thinking of running a couple of Coop sponge filters. The problem I have is power for my USB pump. Is there an alternative pump that I can use or a way to power this pump? I'd like to be able to keep it running even when exposed to the weather. Any thoughts here on how to waterproof the connections? I've seen Cory run these mini USB pumps in his outdoor pumps, just curious how he is doing it.
  20. Sure you can add fish immediately to your tank. Take them home with you today! Thanks PetSmart.
  21. 15 gallon and Rhadinocentrus ornatus. There will be 5 of them, hoping to breed them in this tank.
  22. Hi All I have an aquarium that has been seasoned for around 6 months. It had fish in it, but I moved the fish about 4 weeks ago. So lots of plants and several snails are all that has been in the aquarium since. I have kept the matten filter running the entire time. I'd like to add fish back to this tank. Will it remain cycled or will I need to start that process over? I'm assuming it will be fine, but just wanted to double check.
