  1. been a long long long time, but when i was a kid, my dad kept them in a 20 with guppies, and neons etc. we never had gourami's so i cant help there. they did fine all those years ago.
  2. im right there with that person. i test once every decade or so. i agree reading/watching on the internet can cause a lot of oh boy, does my fish have that, or whats wrong. most things that go wrong with fish will be very clear and visible to a person quickly without watching them under a microscope. if you look hard enough for something wrong, you are going to find it, real or not. best for a person to just step away from the tank for a few days. feed them, and walk away. 99.999% of the time the fish are going to be just fine. you just have to allow yourself to be okay with that.
  3. you can definately get inside your head if you constantly analize the minutia going on inside an aquarium. kick back, relax and just watch the fish from 10' away for a week. you can get in deep and look for things wrong on the day you do tank cleaning.
  4. 11 hours is too much. try around 6 hrs total.
  5. i would let them grow out for a while. see whats going to need more room, and whats going to die off.
  6. as long as you keep the light cranked up, that BBA will keep right on growing.
  7. just an add on, chlorine will off gas, chloramine will not. chlorine used to be a water treatment staple, but has largely been replaced by chloramine. so before relying on off gassing, know what you have.
  8. just popped into my head, but you other folks with a few years on you will know it. O-S-C-A-R M-E-Y-E-R wouldnt you like to be a weiner too..... probably been 30 years since i saw one of them commercials, but its one of them life long jingles that never goes away.🤪
  9. big tank, and dragon guppies, whats not to like. welcome to the forum.
  10. ethics are personal... i believe we should be good stewards, and care takers of the pets we keep, and that what we do should not endanger wild animals either. morality, and ethics are a big can to open.
  11. tank looks great. welcome to the forum.
  12. i myself would not do a 90% water change. better to do an extra 30% change once in a while than a huge water change.
  13. welcome to the forum. it is a good place to get useful information.
  14. if you have shrimp and snails, just leave them in until the break down completely. if you are just using them for tannins, id say 1-2 weeks.
  15. dont know if you are or are not, but dont use the same net etc between tanks. gives an opportunity to transfer problems from one tank to another.
  16. The last stand of the tin can sailors by James D. Hornsfisher. about the DD's, and DE's of taffy 3 in WWII.
  17. it is for sure a balance of light, and nutrients. usually cutting back 1 or the other can do the trick, and since it is usually the fact people run their lights for way too many hours, they get the cut back the lighting advice.
  18. i dont have anything to say about folks who would order such a thing that would fit forum decorum. facts are, fish tanks are relaxing, and can reduce anxiety, and might make one sick, if they drank the water.😲
  19. if the kid likes snails, assassin snails are great at reducing the population of pest snails.
