  1. lots of plants, and a pile of ember tetras.
  2. id put water in it for starters😈. cinder blocks and 2x4's or 2x6's will work. id put a big ol' pile of tiny fish in it.
  3. snail eggs for sure. not nerite. nerites lay single white dot eggs.
  4. i mix hot/cold to get desired temp. 2 or 3 degree's one way or the other would not concern me, but 10 would, especially going colder.
  5. yup, just crush up whatever food you have into a fine powder. bonus points if you drop them into a tank with plants, as they will pick at the bio film for food also.
  6. i have val in my 120, and soft water. seems to do great once it gets established.
  7. BN typically arent overly picky eaters. mine go banana's for wardley's (this is the only food from this brand id use, the rest is not very good) shrimp pellets meant for corydora's, and they are the one fish i have that likes repashy community.
  8. i like them both, key thing is to find the characteristics that work best for you.
  9. have no fear, plunking them in the tank in their pots wont harm anything.
  10. i either allow to dry out for a few days, or wash in very hot water.
  11. i get the aluminum, but most folks would have mig welded that thing up in a hurry vs TIG. its nicely done.
  12. massive overkill, i like it.
  13. its just a gelatin capsule, other than looking ugly if they come out of the substrate, will do no harm.
  14. lots of screws, that thing wont be falling apart any time soon!
  15. they are both cool looking pleco's, so hard to decide. i kinda like that tall dorsal fin on the 236, so id lean that way myself.
  16. unless the numbers go screwy, dont sweat it. i think you have the plan, dont over feed, and just monitor it.
  17. i was thinking that is about right sized for a 29g.
  18. a water softener can transfer TRACE amount of salt to the water. it is very miniscule amount, that will affect no fish or plants. what is to be considered though is a water softener does remove minerals from the water which can be desireable. if it truly concerns you, pretty much all water softeners have a bypass on the head. push the bypass valve over, run a few gallons of water out the faucet, and you now have unsoftened water. remember to put the valve back so that your house doesnt get the hard water crusty's.
  19. ive heard it both ways through my lifetime, dont know when they changed. i just call them guppy's, so dont really care what the science nerds call them.
  20. when adding gravel to an existing tank, of course pre rinse your gravel to get the gunk out. put gravel in a cup, or small bucket, gently lower cup down into water when ya get to the bottom, just gently dump the cup over.
