  1. with the sponge filter, they seem to work best with an air stone down inside them.
  2. snails are poop monsters. they rival plecos.
  3. if you dont have any other kind of filtration that provides water movement, i would opt to run one.
  4. i disagree with the above about the bottle bacteria dont work, they do and ive used them for decades. now if you are doing a fishless cycle you can not constantly be changing 40% of the water. that is just continually resetting what you are trying to do.
  5. that red tail snakeskin male is one good looking fish.
  6. a nerite snail, and some chili or strawberry rasboras.
  7. that is absolutely an assassin. my favorite snail. ive not kept them with apple, nor nerite snails, but they are death on small pest snails.
  8. playing with co2 is outside my wheelhouse, but in the ballpark of 6-7 hrs of light a day is plenty.
  9. ive kept them together before. the cpd's did not eat the shrimp, but they sure liked the shrimp eggs. ive seen them strip the egg sack right out from under momma shrimp.
  10. i use them, but at much lower than the recommended amount. in 20-55 gallon i use 1 small, and larger tanks 2 small or a large (whatever i have handy). i use them as a supplemental water treatment, but mostly as a mineral supplement. they will dissolve over a period of a few days to a week on their own.
  11. some folks will go bananas and say you cant have any salt with plants. i dont agree with that, and i myself like a little salt in an aquarium. id maybe go 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons, but thats just me. as for the hair algae, you will probably want to cut down how many hours per day the light is on.
  12. i dont think they need total darkness, but as long as they have light, and dark periods they should be fine.
  13. sounds like you have a good plan. get out what fish you can into a bucket, then transfer over the plants and substrate, and keep moving over fish as you manage to catch them. once new tank is full and up to same temp as old one, move in the fish.
  14. welcome to the forum. plants you can do on day 1 no problem. shrimp, you definately want not only a cycled tank, but a seasoned tank(one that has been running a few months that has grown a nice bio film shrimp can eat off of).
  15. all but the really big cory's would work fine.
  16. that first pic, he was looking ugly.
  17. cardinal tetra's are nice looking fish.🐟
  18. luv me some dragon guppy's.
  19. once those platys start breeding, you are going to be full+.
  20. pretty much agree with the above. if they can get food, no worries, especially being the only ones in the tank.
  21. pygmy cory's. 6 or 8 would fit comfortably in a tiny tank.
