  1. If you damage any of the silicon sealing the tank you may cause a leak. It looks like it's bonded together at the bottom of the ramp, in which case I would leave it alone.
  2. You can do partial water changes every 24 hrs. Try to aim for 0.5 ammonia or below. Having the temperatures above 75 will help bacteria grow faster. I've had some crashes and this is how I got through them. It can be really stressful, and you'll always want to do more, but bacteria can only grow so fast. I've had limited success kickstarting cycles with a product called Seed by aquavitro. Just know that it could be a complete waste of your money. I don't recommend any sort of chemical stabilizer.
  3. Thank you for the quick reply! I understand now. I didn't realize you only shipped priority. I'll just have to continue to show my support through membership. I would pay priority shipping for plants. A box of ParaCleanse could be sent first class with just a few stamps; that's why the quote was concerning.
  4. What's with the inconsistent shipping prices I'm getting? Will they continue to rise? In January, the coop charged me $5 to ship a small box. In April, the coop charged me $6 to ship an even smaller box. Today, to ship 1 box of ParaCleanse, the coop wants to charge me $8. I only live a few hours away. I can individually ship 10 boxes of ParaCleanse to the coop for that price. What's the deal? I have other options, but I wanted to support the coop when I could. Today's shipping quote is just too unreasonable.
  5. I received an email that Petsmart is now carrying shrimp in their stores. Thoughts? My shrimp friends act like they're the hardest thing ever to keep alive. I wonder if Petsmart will do anything different than normal to keep them stocked. When I was originally in the hobby, I didn't even know these guys existed. It's awesome to see how popular they're becoming.
  6. I have a few aquariums that receive a direct sunlight during the day. One of them has started to develop green water. It actually receives the least amount of sunlight and has the most water, but it doesn't have as many plants as the other tanks. Does being heavily planted prevent a tank from developing green water? What are some ways to manage green water in general? I know I can use a UV sterilizer or cut all light to the tank to kill the floating algae... but what can I do to slow down growth in the future? I'm considering taking the "unnatural" lights off the tank and seeing how the plants grow without them. I'll attach a pic of the tank developing the green water. It's a 55 with potted plants; a dwarf aquarium lily, an amazon sword and its baby, and a madagascar lace plant. There's also duckweed and guppy grass floating around.
  7. Yeah. Everything looks normal to me, but I don't know how they looked before I topped it off with my own water.
  8. She used DI water and mineralized it herself. I took as much of the old water as I could fit into my truck and topped it off with my own tap water. Hopefully things will stabilize. It's probably been about 6 weeks at this point.
  9. Is this piece of grass putting off roots? Or something else? I bought this tank already set up so I couldn't tell you the species. Thank you!!
  10. It might shorten the life of the pump, but you could control the flow of water with a ball or gate valve.
  11. I'm pretty sure the hobby is alive and growing. Availability in every industry is low for the same reasons (shipping shortages, employee shortages, people being home and driving demand, etc.). You're seeing empty shelves because supply can't meet demand, not because there is no demand. The hobby is going to continue growing through social media/youtube. But I believe we'll continue to see more online vendors and hobbyists shipping fish rather than new retail stores. It just makes more sense.
  12. I don't know about using U syphons like that. I've seen people build "water bridges" that sound similar, though. Is your goal simply to share water between tanks? If you're using a pump to return water, you could use the principals of an automatic water change system... building an overflow for each tank that drains into your drum, and then pumping the water back in on a timer (or always slowly dripping into each tank).
  13. I don't breed for profit, but if I did I would be breeding rainbows. My LFS sells a lot of species for $20+.
  14. 🤣 giggling at the thought of big booty neons doin their thang. Sounds like mating behavior. Or maybe you need to turn down the club music
  15. Interesting thread so far! I have 8 aquariums. I feed most tanks twice a day, before I go to work and when I get home from work. If I'm raising fry, I'll feed them 3-4 times a day. Sometimes I'll break up an algae wafer for my corys before I go to bed. I feed the same things every day but sometimes substitute with frozen brine.
