  1. I don’t see quite as much shrimp growth in my community tanks, but adult shrimp are not bothered by adult fish of the species that I run. I moved my betta to my only tank with a lid, which is also in a different and slightly warmer room. I will re-evaluate my temperature needs when winter looms.
  2. I just realized that when I moved my female betta to a community tank with a lid, I now have no active heaters in any tanks.
  3. @Penny, I’m sure they would adjust smoothly!
  4. I have two LPS (local pet stores) about 45 minutes away, in two different directions, similar to the distance to box pet stores. Sometimes, I will do a big half-day loop and hit two LPS, and three boxes.
  5. I don’t heat Neocaridina or White Clouds. I like having shrimp in all of my tanks, and several small tanks just for plants, snails, and shrimp.
  6. I have had custom glass cut by a local small hardware store, and a local glass company. The glass business was able to chamfer the edges for me. Initially, I used the lid with hinges, but it grew a lot of algae on the underside. When I removed the hinge, the humidity and algae was greatly reduced.
  7. Maybe your snail is telling you where it wants the next plants! 😁
  8. Good luck! I have thought about how I might build a fish room. I know that folks will want to hear all sorts of details about plumbing, electrical, insulation, air, cooling, heating, lighting, networking, and other infrastructure. Have fun!
  9. Great journal! I look forward to seeing your progress! You should add a link in your signature for this, and another when you start your 65 gallon journal! PS, in my household, 3.5 gallon and smaller tanks count as houseplants, because you can move them while full!
  10. Snail waste sounds like plant food to me!
  11. It is interesting how lighting temperature is a factor in plant growth, photography, film, software, emotion, and graphic design.
  12. I only top off for my pico tanks. If they only have shrimp, the bioload is tiny.
  13. @ChefConfit, is this why box Mac and cheese seems to reheat better than restaurant Mac and cheese? I do add a bit of butter. @James Black, I also like the Kraft. I have to share this, since you mentioned Maple Syrup. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Canadian_Maple_Syrup_Heist Cheers from Vermont
  14. We want this forum to be welcoming and inclusive. It is always useful to provide context for your posts. I specialize in organic soil tanks, and I use my signature to provide context. There are so many cool ways to enjoy this hobby!
  15. I think that I got a chipmunk out of my apartment. I don’t know if it came in on its own, or if my cat brought it in to play, and then took a nap. The chipmunk chirp is almost identical to the low-battery sound for smoke alarms, so I pulled a few batteries before I figured it out!
  16. I seem to be able to keep healthy tanks. Most of my maintenance involves removing floating plants.
  17. I like the wood for grazing, but there is no singular formula. Cheers!
  18. Those are all the White Clouds that I grew up in my tubs, and then moved indoors to a new organic soil tank with new Mopani wood. I love the tannins, but the water is tea!
  19. I am a lazy perfectionist, so I want maximum uptime with minimal effort. I use organic soil to create a nutrient battery, and then I let it get recharged by fish waste and other decomposition. I may reluctantly change water for my folks’ tank for visibility after nine months.
  20. Here is a photo after probably two years without a water change.
  21. (Found on Reddit)
  22. I enjoy this plant, but it grows almost as fast as duckweed, so prepare for dealing with excess!
  23. I think members can edit thread titles. You just have to be on the first post. If this is not the case, I will look at the permissions.
  24. Food seems to be a fun side-topic on this forum. Cabot, our local Vermont/New York dairy cooperative, now has their own Mac and Cheese boxes. I got a couple of boxes to try, but I sent them with my friend who is moving back to Utah. https://www.cabotcheese.coop/premium-macaroni-cheese/ I like mine al Dente with a bit of crispy bacon crumbles. What do you like for this perfect food?
