  1. With the right lighting, tannin tanks can look beautiful, and be spouse-friendly.
  2. I would love to help you with an organic soil tank!
  3. I have spare Fluval Nano lights. Should I use one for my hatchery? I have not tried brine shrimp in quite a while, mostly because I am not breeding, except for shrimp, and I have only so many gallons of tanks to feed.
  4. I have medium hard water in Vermont. There is lots of limestone from ancient reefs. While I have seen what scale does to water pressure tanks and dishwashers, my tanks have been very happy, and I haven’t had to worry about minerals. I want to see if I can keep other shrimp besides Neocaridina and Amano.
  5. Can you find a piece of rotting, low-density hardwood to sink? Maybe you need massive decomposition, with excess light, and over-feeding.
  6. I heard the plow truck out this morning, and ran out in pajamas and house slippers to brush off and drive a loop to let the driveway get cleared. I didn’t have a chance to photograph that fun.
  7. I will intentionally release gasses from deep layers if I am in the mood. I don’t worry about the inhabitants when I do it. The issue that Diana Walstad mentioned with extra-deep substrate, and I have experienced, is plant roots being less happy, resulting in stalled growth. This is why I have tried to edit old tanks to get a better soil/cap balance.
  8. I can’t seem to find smoked salmon at any aquarium retailers.
  9. Will this flower bloom when it reaches the surface, or are the snails a sign of decomposition?
  10. @JoeQ, you are welcome to share a Dropbox file link if you would like.
  11. @JoeQ, I will have to see what file formats are allowed. You could certainly share a hosted file link if you have a way to host.
  12. @Nav, the forum allows you to edit posts, FYI.
  13. @Nav, your first two images are Google-hosted. They may be in an album that you did not make public.
  14. @Scott Stevenson, if your water is treated with chlorine, you can let it sit for about 24-48 hours, or you can use an air stone or sponge filter to speed up the process. You could test for chlorine to figure out the timing for your water. Chlorine has been undetectable in my water, so I just let water sit to equalize temperature now.
  15. Welcome! I only see the third photo in the first post.
  16. I have good luck as a customer with USPS. I had to print a banner for FedEx to find my door. I haven’t had a UPS order in a while.
