@Guppysnail  I absolutely love  the names  of the new family members🤣 very creative ,,  I also put my snails on top of the vegetable at first to get them used to it

  now they come running when i put a piece in  of vegetable in i put in a zucchini yesterday they within 1-3 hours it was toast

So here is the story of how my tanks became Radio City Music Tanks.

There is always a story 😁

I always get warm fuzzies when @xXInkedPhoenixX posts their menagerie of nerites. Of course I do, they are snails I am me 🤣 When I got Nemo last year I thought oh yay I got lucky he is a boy, no eggs.  Somehow this turned into a thing in my brain I did not want nerite eggs.  
 

My wrist aches every time I try to clean the glass.  So most of my tanks have a back algae wall.  I have often thought of getting more nerites. Poor little guy alone and even a 10 g is a bit to much for him alone. Back to wherever I got the egg hang up from.  
 

So I was on my way to the store to get crickets for my frog and realized I really don’t care if there is bedazzlement throughout the tanks. So the mission began  

This store gets their fish and snail shipments Fridays so I knew it was one of the two best days to get nerites.  I like to make certain critters I purchase have been in store tanks for at least a week if possible.  So I know they have recovered a bit from shipping stress.

I literally purchased every nerite that was on the glass actively munching.  
 

WHY THE NAMES

I started with The Ronettes.  I was looking at them in the bowl in the Pygmy tank. I thought how on earth will I tell them apart?  So I started looking to see distinguishing features and it popped into my head they look just like The Ronettes hair (why my brain thought this 🤷‍♀️

Then on to panda tank with music in my brain.  Hey those look like The Beach Boys in the Hawaiian shirts.  DO YOU SEE IT?

Then to guppy tank and of course the only shiny black racer looked just like Johnny Cash’s shiney puffy hair with June’s lighter color hair  DO YOU SEE IT?

Then of course in mom n dads tank Jan &Dean we’re surfing the GB.  Can’t really see it but maybe hear it  

So over to the guppy fry/pleco fry playing in the yard together. So Yardbirds popped into my head. I remembered a photo of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton kind of standing in a loose group laughing. This is not that one I could not find it. So Yardbirds it is I figured I was now committed to the music theme.

Well gee Nemo’s new friend.  Now I have a conundrum because Dory is not a music name and I was not feeling Dory as the name.  But Dusty Springfield came to mind with her poofy hair (are you seeing the poofy hair theme here as well?  Nerites remind me of those)

I walked over to the funny tank and before I even looked Janis Joplin Me & Bobbie McGee popped into my head. Well not really wanting to name one “Me”. I went with Janis even though her version was only a cover.  Kris and Fred were not appealing to me but I do love me Some Janis.  So CAN YOU SEE IT?  Not at all and I’m certainly not naming my nerite Pigpen 🤣

My black racer hasn't gone after any of the veggies, but my zebra will eat green beans and algae wafers, at least. It may have been eating a crayfish empire snail cookie the other day too, but I couldn't say for sure.

@Katherine I’ve often been curious about the different behaviors and such with different varieties of nerites. My olive Nemo I suspect may have nibbled a green bean a time or two but he usually cruises the food dish under the GB and ignores it.

I never tried placing the Nerite on something to “train her”. I did place a calcium chip (contains spirulina etc) in her direct path though and she went around it. I will try placing her on the food next time.

@Guppysnail thank you for a big belly laugh this morning..  with the  name explanation with photos of the snail and with the artist and bands  photos was brilliant  😂😂  my mom loved the beach boys and elvis  and my dad loved country and gospel music  .. and Janis was a powerhouse vocal  i like the Yardbirds too ..  

I have only named 3 fish one was my first fish a goldfish by himself he was Mr. Fish. my cousin son named him  , my first pelco i think he was a bigger pelco he was sold as a bristolnose but he was bigger and my biggest fish  .. his name was Big Al .. the bristolnose i have now i was going to call him Little Al but  named him Marvin  after pop culture name  Messy Marvin  because  he helps clean my mess ..

I have several girl nerites snails  girls and have eggs all over ,,  it use to drive me crazy  but now that my plants are getting bigger they hide the eggs better .. mine loves to lay the eggs on the sponge filters and on  one rock .. and the glass i do remove the eggs  from the glass .. with a old credit card .. and i use a  toothbrush ,tooth picks, and razor blade  to remove from my Dragon Stone hopefully my plants will eventually cover the rock so i will not have to worry about if I have company 

I only clean the front glass and my mystery snails, nerite snails , pelco takes care of the rest of the glass panels

Can you believe how big these tiny little magenta’s have gotten?

Released Duke into his little panda 🐼 grow out today. Best picture I could get which is none at all he scampered off under the plants

@Guppysnail I can now confirm that my zebra also eats lima beans. I'm beginning to wonder if it'll be any good at algae cleanup given it shares the tank with mysteries...

My zebras, I have now seen all 5 eat a green bean. None of the others were even interested.  Very interesting indeed. I love just watching critters to see the difference in behavior.

So what this tells me is that when I go get more nerites to help with my front glass algae I need to avoid getting more zebras. Thanks!

Sure do.  I take the seeds out and lay meat up.

I accidentally broke a runnier stem off my mother spider plant 😭 so in a tank it went

I placed her on the zucchini.. TWICE. And twice she immediately left it to go clean glass.

I have a panda egg I put in the ugly funny fry tank so maybe Duke will have company. Looks like we are not far from hatching. Only sponge filters, shrimp and Janis & Bobby so I hope it does well.

It sure is. I had a really bad outbreak of GSA during a bursitis issue. So now a few of my older kids have green covered shells. My one nerite started cleaning up one of them. So I’m hoping with a bunch of new nerites maybe my kiddos can all get a “hair” cut 🤣

[Odd Duck]

I had a bladder snail riding a mystery snail the other day.  Mystery looked clean, but the bladder snail stayed on there a good while as I came and went trying to get everybody fed before going to work.

Friends always “wash” each other’s backs 🤣. I actually seen a small bladder crawl under my ones shell it scared me so I was going to try and remove it before it crawled to far in. The mystery snapped it’s door closed and half smooshed it.

 my nerite snails ride my mystery snails and clean them  i do get  brown algae on them .. some of my netrite  refuse any vegetables and some runs to it and glue themselves till it is gone .. all my mystery  snails love the vegetable along with my pelco i always clean the seeds out of the vegetable  with my melon baller spoon just because it makes a mess in the tank
