  1. My black racers do this way more than my other nerites. I won't see them for months then they'll be all over the place above the gravel for a few weeks. Rinse and repeat.
  2. I think to be able to give any decent advice, we need to know what the objection is. Why didn't spouse want the 40 to begin with? Is it a space issue? Money? Water damege potential? Time it takes you to deal with it? Fish creep them out? Something else?
  3. They can mate and lay eggs, but the eggs are not able to hatch in fresh water.
  4. Me too. I currently have 6 and previously had 2 others and I've never had eggs. I wonder if it's somehow related to water conditions as well? 8 males and no females seems ridiculously unlikely.
  5. In my experience, ramshorns breed much faster than bladder snails. They're also a lot larger.
  6. I'm not familiar with that substrate. Could the nitrates be coming from that? And have you added any other fertilizers?
  7. To me it looks like it could possibly be from the mystery snails. If a small clutch got knocked into the water before it had dried it could spread out like that. Are they the wrong size for that?
  8. Have you checked the expiration date on the test kit? And is nitrite one of the ones where you're supposed to shake the bottle for a ridiculous amount of time before you use it?
  9. I haven't been able to get my cubes to stick for more than about 30 seconds. I'll have to try presoaking. I don't have a powerhead, but maybe if I put it in the path of the ez flow that would work.
  10. How do you get the freeze dried food into the water column? Mine stays floating forever.
  11. I also have a cat who likes to jump on top of the tank and the glass top has held her up just fine.
  12. @jwcarlson There are a few classics I really like. Of Mice and Men and The Pearl, both by Steinbeck, are the first that come to mind.
  13. I'm trying to read Pride and Prejudice for a book club and I'm really not enjoying it. I don't understand why so many people love this book.
  14. Not a great photo, but we have baby guppies! We've spotted 3 at a time, I'm not sure if more than that have avoided becoming lunch or not.
  15. I've had this red onion nerite for about a year and I've never seen it on the glass before. I did not recognize it from across the room and had to go check who it was.
  16. Would it be possible to use each card in it's own transaction to buy a coop gift card, then use both of those in one transaction with a credit card covering the rest? That may be more trouble than it's worth though.
  17. My favorite (which annoys my kids, which just makes it better) is I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. https://youtu.be/GNDri18-eQ0?si=2IRwGQfOVxgnX96X
  18. Sharing algae wafers. This hillstream loach seems to be a little confused about where the food is.
  19. My tap has .5ppm ammonia and I've had a newly filled tank with an established filter convert it all in less than 12 hours.
  20. Terrible photo, since I zoomed in from the couch to avoid spooking the loach. Bluey and a hillstream loach sharing some crab cuisine.
  21. That should be just fine for the nerites. I've had a few die on me within 9 months of getting them, I've also got one I've had for 4 years. You just can't predict it.
  22. This doesn't seem too unusual for nerite snails to me. They are generally wild caught and who knows how old they are when they get to you. Some just have trouble with all the transitions involved in going from the wild to your home tank. What are your ph, kh, and gh?
  23. Some lights off photos this morning. Penny, sleeping. My prettiest guppy male. This is by far the best guppy photo I've been able to get. Stella or Fudge. Hillstream loaches. (Might be the same loach? Idk. I didn't take them at the same time.) Horned nerite. These guys are about twice the size they were when I bought them last January, but still teeny tiny. I have ramshorns bigger than them. (With bonus female guppy.)
