  1. I feel like I am always having fun food plans. I will adopt any holiday celebration that involves food! But I am not cooking this year, as we are not going to be at home. 🙂
  2. Wishing you all a Nermy Thanksgiving, and may all your watery containers continue to bring joy, wisdom, and good feelings. 😍 I give Thanks for all of you!
  3. I hope to see what new life awaits this tank, and that the critters found good homes. Good luck with the marine set up. 🙂
  4. How long has the tank been set up? I do not see algae in those photos, and if snails were starved (or not fed) before traveling, there may not be enough food to get them nourished and going after the journey. Also, have you added any planaria treatment? That will kill snails. Sorry about the losses. ☹️
  5. I love this tank size! I ended up making a lid for it, and it keeps everyone in plus slows down evaporation. Can’t wait to see how yours develops! 😍
  6. Kessil lights are great for large tanks. I considered getting one for my SW but decided against it because it would have been an overkill, since it is a small shallow tank. Plants will be very happy!
  7. Oh, I missed these announcements! Congratulations @Chick-In-Of-TheSea, @nabokovfan87, @FrozenFins, @Flumpweesel, @JettsPapa, @TheSwissAquarist! And thank you Coop for keeping up with these generous gifts! 😍
  8. I am very happy with the ACO powerhead. I have one in the SW tank, and another in the WCMM 6 gal. tank. I aim that one at the sponge back wall and it dampens the strength enough for the minnows to enjoy. Grandmas are the best! 😀
  9. I got a very healthy bunch at the last club auction, and none of it survived. Just melted away, sadly. Five different tanks, too. ☹️ Your tank is gorgeous!!!
  10. How is the powerhead working out in this tank with the extra volume? Also, I love the little scarlet seahorse! 🙃
  11. I hope so. I love shallow tanks, so this one seems to satisfy that criterion. I have not seen them in person yet, but plan on a trip to Petco to have a look. I need to spoil the water puppy!🙃
  12. Wonderful adaption of a frag tank! It is looking great! Keep the Shiruba as an emergency carbon filter should you ever need it. Welcome to Olympia! 🙂
  13. I could build the tank to add the depth but definitely would not want the height. I am contemplating canister filter with spray bar, as well as ACO Powerhead with sponge filter for added flow. I have it in my SW tank and love it. Definitely air stones for added O2 bubbles. I like the idea of more Corydoras, but am staying away from Kuhli loaches. I want fish that are diurnal. 🙂 WCMM are on the list. Currently looking into Dwarf Anchor fish assuming Elmer would not harass them. He is slated to be the king of the tank, after all. 🤪
  14. They are beautiful! Looking forward to the journal! 😍
  15. They look like aphids. I have them in my floating plants and are a great food source for fish, especially when you can’t feed regularly (i.e. traveling). Sparkling gourami, WCMM, CPDs, Norman Lampeyes love them. 🙂
  16. Since this is in the very early stages of planning, any information regarding stocking, mostly. I have a Chinese Algae Eater that will go in there, some Corydoras (I have a little Pygmy that follows Elmer everywhere), a Kuhli Loach, WCMM, shrimp and snails. My Pea Puffers are getting old and I will not be getting more. I doubt the CPDs and other nano fish would be around either, due to their projected lifespan. I am flexible when it comes to adjusting filtration to accommodate the inhabitants, and will probably include areas of high flow. 🙂
  17. I agree with previous posters that shrimp were already dead and the snails were feeding on their carcass. I would look for other causes. Sorry you lost the little guys. 😔
  18. As some of my critters are approaching the 3 year mark, I am starting to consider not continuing with their nano tanks and consolidating all tanks into one. I am contemplating a 60 gal. shallow that has a 4 ft. footprint (48.5" L X 18.5" W X 16.25" H). Does anyone maintain such a tank? Any advice? It will be heavily planted (non-negotiable) so multis will not be considered. Elmer (CAE) will go there, as well as any other critters that are alive at that point. I suspect this transition will happen about 6 to 8 months from now. My SW has a similar aspect ratio and I love how much of the tank activity can be enjoyed at this size. This will give me just two tanks to look after. Thoughts and advice greatly appreciated. 🙂
  19. @Tactical Error, there is good advice here. All my tanks but one are shallow, and it is amazing how little light they need compared to the tall one (15”). I run the light a 60% for 6 hours a day, and mitigate some of the intensity by having floating plants (Riccia fluitans, duckweed, Hornwort). I do not fertilize and let the plants get their nutrients from the critters (not for everybody). I would suggest a bit of patience observing the tank to learn the rhythm of growth inside of it. The presence of algae is not necessarily a bad thing, it just needs grooming like everything else. The tank looks beautiful, algae and all. 😍
  20. Thanks! There was someone on another forum who started a temperate SW tank, but found it very difficult to source livestock for it. He was in California if I remember correctly. I think he took the tank down due to frustration. ☹️
  21. Tagging @Colu for expert advice.
