  1. I remember it took a while for my coralline to get going, but it is a beautiful sight once it likes the tank! Don’t underestimate how quickly pods can decimate the salad bar! 😉
  2. Looking very nice! You finally got your Mbunas and the rocks look great! 😍
  3. But they are so rewarding! Just keep your kids at a distance! 😉 The largest amphipod I've seen in this tank! I am assuming is a girl based on size. Baby crabs out to lunch recess: Macros liking the temp probe now:
  4. As I was enjoying the tank this morning, Ursula Flerken made himself quite tall, and started spawning!
  5. Leaks are inherently bad. How long have you had the tank? I would start with transferring all contents into a tote, and then identifying the leaky area. It may be a small thing that can easily be solved with some silicone., but you’ll have too empty the tank in order to properly assess. The critters should be fine for a little while in the tote with all filters, water and gravel. You’ll be able to transfer them either to the fixed tank or a new one if it needs replacement.
  6. May all your Nermy wishes come true, and your tanks and critters thrive! 😍
  7. I have moved away from water changes. Almost a year for FW and 9 months for SW. My tanks are now just top-offs and plants. I feed once every two to three days, never vacuum substrate, and can leave them for three weeks without feeding. I did get a chance to visit the LFS in SF that Zenzo talked about, and Justin gave me some very useful tips on maintaining tanks. He does use CO2 and I do not, but other than that, his method seems to be working for me. Only after meds I find a need for a WC, and I have not used any since the Columnaris outbreak. I agree with @Biotope Biologist, the less tech the better to mimic nature. 😍
  8. As I call mine the “mightiest killing attitude packed in one inch of fish”, they are the sweetest little peas when interacting with me. They show emotions, and let you know when they are angry (Nicodemus does not like Reggae, but loves Metallica and AC/DC - go figure), are terrified of stripes, and when in hunting mode, the markings on their body show quite the contrast, with the line under their belly getting very dark and quite pronounced. Both are male. One word of caution, get a lid. With all the commotion of a full house during the holidays, he jumped off his tank onto the floor below. A house guest almost stepped on him, thinking it was a cockroach (luckily, we do not have those here). He went back in the tank, and seems to be alright. It has been 5 days since he did that, so I think he is over the danger period. Too many super hero movies, I’m afraid. Highly recommended little bits! 😍
  9. Happy holidays, @Beardedbillygoat1975! Just catching up with your sine wave of events. So sorry you have lost so many fishies, and the weather woes. We have also seen our share of flooding, downed trees, and icy mishaps. Hang in there, Spring always comes! Your 60 is looking quite nice! Inspiring, as usual. Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂
  10. As @Patrick_G mentioned, I do have a six gallon tank for my Vampire crabs. The link in my signature will take you to the journal. I fill the tank half way so they only have 3 gallons of water. I started with 1M and 2F and now they have had babies. They are fun, but get a bright color so you can see them, as they are very good at staying camouflaged. 😎 Happy to answer any questions.
  11. Wishing everyone and their critters a safe, warm and happy holiday weekend. I hope everyone faired well during the storm, and has access to lots of hot chocolate. 🥶
  12. I am now looking at my water boxes with increased suspicion, and considering getting the 5 gal. shop vac. 😎
  13. I just realized the red macros seem to favor the left side of the tank. They are growing like crazy, and only a few of the red flat leaf ones are starting to sprout on the right side. Why??? Please excuse the poor image. Tank is in rapid diatom growth mode because some of the bay gobies are showing the beginning of eggs.
  14. Your plans are quite impressive. Can’t wait to see how the tank develops. Great collection of critters on your list. I must admit to being a bit jealous, but happy to live vicariously through your efforts! 😍
  15. Mine arrived in the mail yesterday! (The perks of living on an island)… Great article! I very much enjoyed the bonus video too! 😀
  16. Just catching up with this wonderful event. Congratulations, @Patrick_G! Adorable taddywollypogs!
  17. Sooo… This is what happens when I have too much coffee. I was wondering, if Guppysnails were real (besides our wonderful Nerm), what would their tank look like? Does anyone have an imaginary tank they’d like to share? 🤔
  18. It is looking great so far! Your tank is bigger than my PSB, so you should be fine. Mine is definitely overstocked, but the critters keep breeding in there. Thirty anemones, 27 gobies, and who knows how many in the CUC. Also on the layout, nice start, but your CUC will do some unsolicited interior design for you. They have opinions! Out of curiosity, what temp are you keeping the tank at? It is going to be an awesome build to follow! 😀
