  1. Yes I just hook it up as needed. Here is a better picture of it all setup ready to take the tap end to the tank or to a collection bucket, depending on which tank I am putting water into. It takes about 1 minute to set everything up, not difficult at all. With that, @Daniel has a much better setup, but I just don't have a place to store that much water for that kind of setup (but I will in my next home). Also I was going to do a permanent install in the laundry room and my wife wasn't thrilled about that, so I figured I would do this instead and find something else to make her made (just kidding, I don't purposely find stuff to make her mad, I just do it without thinking about it 😂)
  2. Did what I could with the iPhone, but I was having problems getting the camera to focus on the fish and not the surrounding plants and substrate.
  3. I purchased a kit off eBay. Nothing fancy, but after testing my water out of the tap I realized my PH was crazy high from the start. This allows me to get the water to a known level and adjust from there. The PPM from the tap is ~120, coming out of the RO kit it is about ~2. I keep everything in this extra cooler I had laying around so I can roll it where I need.
  4. That is our favorite aquarium. We were going to try and go this year, but other things came up😡. When we lived in Florida, only a short drive from many other nice aquariums taking a long weekend to go to the Georgia Aquarium is where we still went.
  5. I love the sparkling gourami's, I just added eight of them to one of my tanks. The blue eyes are amazing to watch.
  6. Anyone know what this white growth is on this airline? It is a very young tank, and the growth isn't on the same tubing on any other tank I have. Thanks for the help.
  7. It says that the 50% offer is in stores only, soil they have them in stock near you and its not far away, it seems like a great deal.
  8. Well I did not do this today, but I did do this the other day. I purchased a RO kit, nothing fancy or expensive. I then put it inside a cooler I had laying around. It super handy because it has wheels, making semi-portable to I put it back in the garage when I am done. I still refining the setup, but as of now I am getting decent RO water.
  9. I've never had this happen to me, but because of the lack of reliability for most heaters I have slowly been removing them from my tanks. In fact I currently only have one with a heater, and planning on removing it in the next few days.
  10. So my local Pet Store had a sale on Fluvial Accent aquariums for $99. I told my daughter I would buy her a tank if she got good grades in school, so I went ahead and picked one up and am storing it at my friends so she doesn't know I already got her the tank. Then..... I was giving it some thought and decided it was a great deal and would like one as well, so I ended up with two Fluvial Accent tanks. And then..... my buddy decided he needed one. His truck left with three of these tanks. If you are near/around the Mobile, Al area B&B is having the sale. I personally love this store, even though their plant selection is usually lacking, but that's where Aquarium Co Op comes into my life.
  11. Thank you, I am still narrowing what fish I am going to put in it, but besides shrimp & snails, I am looking at moving my Hillstream Loaches into this tank, looking at a Stiphodon Loach, and then also looking at a bunch of Longfin White Clouds.
  12. I just got done watching your video a few days ago about using the pipette to apply spot treatment. It has only been a couple days now with no noticeable difference, but today I am going to do another treatment and cut my lights to being on for only a few hours. Its a balancing act because you don't want to hurt anything else in the tank.
  13. Welcome to the forum. I grew up spending a ton of time in your area, in fact my mother once lived in a home that is now where Dillon Reservoir and my Grandfather helped build the dam. Do you find any specific challenges with your tank at that altitude?
  14. Thank you Cory, and also what an amazing turnaround time from you guys. I placed my order last night, you guys had me a tracking number just after lunch my time today.
  15. Here is Part 3 of my latest 60 gallon project. For anyone who is interested take a look at Part 1, 2, and an idea/feedback thread for everything before this. Part 1 , Part 2 Idea/feedback So once I got most of the large pieces of hardscape done I filled the tank with water. This is for several reasons, first I wanted to make sure none of the wood was going to move, I knew it still wanted to float, so this was a little bit of a test run. Next this also let me soak the wood a little more to get some of the tannins out. Lastly it also me see what some of the rocks and wood looked like underwater, something that is difficult to do when everything is dry. Ignore that piece that is floating in the right corner, it is a piece that is soaking for something else and I was just make use of the water in the tank. I also used Plasti Dip on the filter tubes and such. This should let them blend in a little more, plus the old ones were good, just discolored a bit. I also ordered a large Pre Filter Sponge from Aquarium Co Op to throw in the intake. This morning I drained the tank. You can see the discoloration after only a few days of soaking. started using some black substrate I had for a few areas that I did not think would be seen at all. I figured this would save on the other substrate since since I was not sure how much I was going to use. Note all the extra stones on the floor. I have a ton of stuff my wife is ready for me to get out of her kitchen, so I have been a little "motivated" to get this project moving. Here is a close up of the right corner. I did the whole tank this way before putting down the sand and other misc. small rocks. This is a picture of me getting the sand down. Ignore the light placement, they were there so I would stop hitting them with my arm while putting the substrate. I got a little further after this picture was taken, but I need to wait on the plants before I go any further. I placed an order from two places (One being aquarium Co Op) last night. Also, all the sand and smaller rocks you see I went and got myself. It took a little bit of hiking and exploring around the local streams, I almost drowned one time when I fell into the water and got swept down river (I may make a post about that in more detail later), but over all because so many items on this project were either found or refurbished, it has made this project really enjoyable. A special thanks to @Daniel for his positive words and suggestions, and also special thank you to @Jessica.for her photo editing to help me imagine better placement of the hardscape.
  16. Curious, I just ordered some plants last night for my newest aquarium setup and everything should have been here Friday & Saturday (Had to order things from Aquarium Co Op, and another place (Sorry Cory)). I now have to work all day Saturday and won't get to everything until Sunday. Everything got shipped out today, would you worry about the plants in the shipping boxes until Sunday? I usually time my orders so the minute everything arrives it goes into the tank, so this is a little out of the norm for me.
  17. You guys are making my me nervous about the Val I am looking at in my new setup that I am working. I guess I need to make sure to use some root tabs.
  18. Well I did another layout on Wednesday, then I had to leave for work Thursday & Friday which gave me time to ponder, now I've done two more layouts this morning. This is the latest, and other than a few small things I am pretty happy. This is what I have going on as of now.
  19. Don't want to start a war here, but your experience is much different than mine. Sure there are a few good employees, but as whole I would not trust the USPS to turn a light switch off without losing the instructions and then forgetting what they were doing first. The only exception lately has been with aquarium plants and fish, I guess they have a soft spot for the hobby. As for the other companies, around here one is terrible, the other is awesome, but when I lived in Florida it was the opposite. 🤷‍♂️
  20. Well after several more layouts, most of them I was not happy with or worried about the over stability of the rocks, I have this currently sitting the tank. Obviously it still needs more medium & smaller rocks, but thoughts? I'd still like a little more wood, and I have a bunch of small stuff that can get used. Maybe a small in the far right corner? Maybe a piece on the bottom as if it just fell there?
  21. Still narrowing down what fish we are putting in this tank, but fish we are looking at are Khuli Loaches, Amano Shrimp, Bamboo Shrimp, and possibly moving my Hillstream Loaches into this tank. Also I am looking at community fish that I can do a large school of like White Cloud Minnows, Leopard Longfin Danio, or a Gold Leopard Longfin Danio. With all that we are still researching and deciding exactly what we will put int he tank, but certainly something stream/river theme that likes water movement and cooler water.
  22. Thank you @Jessica., seeing something like does make it easier to come up with a game plan. I think if I do it that way I'll have to move the filter hoses on the left side just to make it a little easier to hide them (not a big deal since they have moved about once a day for the last week as I try and figure out this hardscape).
  23. Appreciate the thoughts, and by all means I would not have asked if I wasn't prepared to receive it. I certainly get the medium followed by smaller rocks, and that is my fault because I did not mention that I have left most of the smaller stuff out at tis time, so I should have mentioned that. As for the fractal part, I've never really thought the way you described, so I will certainly be more cognizant of that. That big piece of wood has been a real pain to work with, but I truly love the way it looks. One issue I have had is it still wants to float, but just barely. I usually put light pressure on it to get it to sink, so I was using the tank cross support to hold it down. If I moved it over to the left I would need to adjust the rock layout to help make sure there is something to help hold it down. If I did that I could move the filter tubes over to the left side, and then clear almost all but one or two larger rocks from the right side. I agree that removing stuff can be difficult, but at present time I have had everything in & out of this tank about a dozen times. If I think I like something I take a bunch of pictures and then pull everything out. This is my first project of this size with this much visibility, so I want it to be right (or as close as I can with my current experience). Thanks again for the input.
  24. So I had this tank setup (just hardscape) for a little over a week, but after I kept looking at it, as well as some other input from forum members here, instead of going to the voting booth (I voted early), I decided to mess with this hardscape some more. I plan on putting in some Java Fern, Amazon Swords, Vallisneria, and some Hygrophila Angustifolia to give it a flowing river look & try and help hide the filter tubes. So with that, I am not a 100% happy with the flow/layout, what are your suggestions? I've still got a lot of wood and rocks, but my wife feels like there is enough wood it it. Thanks for the input.
