  1. Yeah, maybe that was TMI. I was trying to demonstrate that there's a lot of things that could make them ill, and it is probably not anything you did/didn't do. I was watching hermit crab videos the other day! It was fun. I learned a lot about their care, which is oddly the opposite of what the hermit crab salespeople tell you. LOL I liked watching people pamper their crabs and build them little jungle gyms and stuff in the tanks.
  2. That's perfect. That's what I did too. I have a red bucket for quarantine/med tank. Red=bad. Or STOP. However you want to look at it. The color helps me to know. Don't let it get you down. You really are on the right track and you are doing your research to provide the best care. The critters go through a lot before they even get to our homes. They often start in big ponds, the ponds are dredged with huge nets, then they are transferred into concrete "burial vaults" - they await shipment for a few days there. Then they are bagged and sent to the store through whatever kind of transportation; jostled around in the process. Then the store puts them in with whatever other critters, with whatever kind of water quality, maybe it's not even well suited to them. Then they get netted and bagged and taken on a trip home, and all of these things together stress the fish. Stress leads to illness. This happens to all of us fishkeepers - you could have done everything perfectly but it could just be what they've been through up to this point. For pretty cheap, you may consider picking up a gang valve like this. It lets you split air between tanks if you don't have the cash for another air pump. Or you can split the air between 2 airstones in one tank, etc. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/products/4-way-metal-gang-valve Sometimes they are green, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Lok-Tite®-Regulator-Gang-Valves-Aquariums/dp/B0002564O4/ref=sr_1_7?crid=3TI7PAMU75OH8&keywords=2+way+gang+valve+aquarium&qid=1660853663&s=pet-supplies&sprefix=2+way+gang%2Cpets%2C89&sr=1-7
  3. Oh no! Are you ok? Wishing you a speedy recovery. Adding some more plants (ie: hornwort, water sprite, anacharis, etc) - just toss them in and let them float around in there - they will help with water quality as you recover.
  4. Cory cats and snails are known to eat dead fishes.
  5. Snails do not tolerate fish meds well. He should be moved out to a med-free tank to help him recover. You can even use a plastic storage tote, if you have a heater and filter for it. This is so true! They might look healthy at the store, but then the trip home might stress them, different water conditions, different tank mates, etc. Then their immune systems weaken and they present symptoms. What does your treatment plan consist of? With meds, it is generally just add the meds and let the fish soak in them for a period of time, making sure there is no carbon in the filter, and keeping lights off if possible to keep stress down for the fishes, and so as not to degrade the meds with UV light. Is it the water changes that are taking so much time each morning? Maybe we can help you to get your maintenance time reduced. One other tip is to add an extra airstone to any tank you medicate if you are able to, as some medications make it harder for the fish to breathe. So sorry you are dealing with all of this. Your tanks look nice! You are in the right spot here at the forum. We will help however we can. I have found everyone to be helpful and they like to share knowledge. @Colu
  6. YouTube is where most of us dump videos before a forum post. This is my most watched and most liked video. With 5.8k views and 61 likes, drumroll please……. 😳🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣
  7. Yay! Also @nabokovfan87 suggested when adding new fish to move around the stuff in the tank so that new territories can be established.
  8. Today is cucumber day. My mom gave me a salad to take home the other day so I thought I’d share it. They also got some banquet block. The small, pale guy was upside down 🫤last night next to the sponge filter so I put a piece of crab cuisine next to him for when he was ready. Well, a big snail sniffed it out and ate it, doing circles around it and steamrolling little snail like 5 times! Eventually little snail righted himself and moved, just a little. I guess that’s one way to do a welfare check. 😳 Today the little snail was hard to find, but was eventually located next to the same sponge filter. He had moved 1/4 of the way around the base and then half burrowed into the sand. Not sure what’s going on with him. 😔
  9. There’s a whole bunch of anacharis floating around in the snail tank and it’s kinda messy, but maybe he’d appreciate the cover. Might make him feel more secure.
  10. Other threads I have read about holes in leaves have led to potassium deficiency. P.S. Pretty tank.
  11. @nabokovfan87 @Colu What do you think I should do with this guy after treatment? He's little and gets picked on, and my school is not big enough I guess. To increase the school the next guys would have to go through quarantine for a good while. Think I should put him in the snail tank? He'd be the lone fish in there for a bit but at least I could keep an eye on him (can't see him through the tote, and he's been through quite enough medication already) until the next gang is ready to go to display tank.
  12. Today is lettuce day ☺️ Got an update on the first little one I adopted out. Goldie is doing well. My friend said it’s like having a baby; Goldie just eats and poops! Of course I reply, “but isn’t she cute?” To which my friend responds, “Absolutely.” Also Goldie delighted her with parasnailing this morning. Now she’s off to the store to buy some green beans. ❤️
  13. There is a bit of a calc when choosing a pond pump. Distance of hose, flow rate of faucet, and height of tank. I will try to find the info for you; it’s in a video I had watched before my pump purchase. And I believe I sized up, just in case. Pump size guidelines - @ approx 2:00 in vid.
  14. Husband walks into the kitchen. Sees small pot of boiling water. Meanwhile I’m making a sandwich. He asks, “Whatcha got goin on in here?” “Not much, just making a sandwich.” “What’s with the little pot of boiling water? Is that for the snails’ sandwich?” Has a big grin on his face. (4 different small veggies are in a dish aside the stove.) Guilty as charged. LOL. At least he’s coming around. I was told on more than one occasion not to say the S word. 😳 Apparently my snail talk was getting excessive. 😬 But he did get a kick out of the little video of York riding the bubbles up. 🫧 I think he’s starting to notice their little personalities. (Thank goodness for the forum. I can snail talk all I want here.)
