    Hi guys. I believe I have hydra. Seems it’s filter feeding, perhaps helping with water clarity? I think it’s kinda neat. Do I need to know anything specific about hydra? Any downsides to having it in the tank?

    I think I have hydra in Pippin’s tank. But I don’t know much about it. Looks like they are filter feeding.

    Thanks @Bev C! I got my water changes done and started the fish and snails on a fast. Buckets are filled up and dechlorinated. We expect some thunderstorms today and then the worst of the storm tomorrow.

    Thanks @Bev C and @Guppysnail. If I go dark for a few days on here it’s because the power and internet went out. Very common. Yesterday I got some more canned goods. Some of the Campbell’s Chunky Soups and Spaghetti o’s and canned chicken (the tuna was sold out). These things are ready to eat and have the pull tab on the lid. We also have some snacks and some canned corned beef, canned vegetables, and extra cat food for the little furry friends. I have an NOAA emergency radio. It is battery powered OR wind up OR solar. Multiple ways to get it charged. I plan to do a water change on all the tanks today. Maybe I will fill my water change buckets up for later? In case we get any warnings about our tap water.

    I do this too. That way I can get the quarantine tote going whenever I want to buy new fish. Or if there is a problem/illness that happens. What size is your main tank?

    @Guppysnail I like to grab the chocolate chips from the pantry, and then I put the pb on the spoon, and I sprinkle the spoon w/ the chocolate chips. (works best w/ mini chocolate chips, if that's an option)

    You guys see the "carrot confetti"? The aftermath of her and her friends' carrot banquet yesterday. I see at least 4 spots in that last photo... 🥕 Also, I've prepared as best I can for the upcoming hurricane. I have 2 power banks and nano air pumps to run my sponge filters. Probably will gang valve the QT tote and the 10g together because I've got 2 power banks but 3 tanks. Worse comes to worst I have D-cell air pumps but those are REALLY LOUD! And if we lose power, I do NOT want those things to be the only sound in the house. UGH! Hurricanes are routine though. Just get your booze and your peanut butter (no refrigeration needed) and you're all set. Oh and some people think they need to line up for hours to get bottled water, which, you can get from the tap now, or as I do, from the fridge dispenser because it's filtered (so fancy!). & just fill up whatever containers you have. Plus fill up the bathtub. Awhile back I bought some Life Straws too. Never had a reason to use 'em yet, but hey. I like contingency. Someone on another thread said they got a number of days off of a nano pump on a 20,000mAh power bank. Hopefully that's the case, but also I'm hoping not to be out of power that long.

    ...if you're telling people to put ammonia in their new tank instead of taking it out. That's hilarious @PineSong! I've seen this question come up more than once "Can you pee in a new fish tank to start the cycle?" (I still don't know the answer because everyone always laughs and then changes the subject) 🤨

    I created my quarantine tote very hastily WHILE a tank was leaking! I dumped Christmas decorations out of it and gave it a rinse and then fish were in it. This was around 10pm one night, because leaks don't ever happen at convenient times, it seems. I used it a few more times, but now I bought a new one where the plastic is much clearer and I can see if anybody has any symptoms.

    This morning the qt tote got its first water change. So they’ve had 1 packet of paracleanse for 7 days as per co op preventative instructions. Also they had the level 1 salt with that. I haven’t seen ANY symptoms since that one time (suspected worm, maybe not a worm) but sometimes I see what I think is flashing. But a) they don’t like the light and b) if it’s near feeding time they are all dart-y. That’s just their deal. And I think the bare bottom confuses them. So at this time I decided it’s not something to worry about. If it’s in the evening when they are winding down, I do not see anything that looks like flashing at all. As a reward for completing their 7 day treatment, they got a new plant decoration! They instantly liked it and were swimming around it. They are coloring up nicely and I am certain my mystery fish are the head-and-tail light tetra. A school of 2! 😐 Hope they do well. I guess my pristella school is going to stay at 5 then, because I don’t want to overstock and the Pristellas are all very happy and constantly doing the mating dance. Every day. Which i might add, they never did prior to having live plants. I will keep the Pippin tank open after everyone’s move in case there are any issues. Except for the few resident snails, of course. 😉
