I'm guessing that was a typo/auto correct of planaria.

I’ve got algae as a carpeting plant
Katherine replied to ravvlet's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
You should be able to put them in still. Unless you want to be able to see them, that is. -
Yup. They can come in with the plants.

My understanding is that if you put the prime in the bucket, then put that water to the tank, the prime will bind with the chlorine in the bucket water before anything in the tank has to opportunity to bind with it. If you put the water straight from the tap to the tank then if you only use enough prime for the replacement water then it may bind with things already in the tank (ammonia, nitrite, etc) and not have enough prime left to bind with all of the chlorine.

We had about 80-85% here depending on which news source you asked. My 7yo thought it was amazing. My 9yo thought it was super boring. I thought it was interesting, but no where near as cool as totality would be.

Same here, but our ants don't tend to be in the same room as the fish tank.

I don't think that's a great idea with shrimp in the tank. They'd much rather eat any food that's being added for the shrimp than the algae. They're not very good algae eaters when they have any other option.

My black racers do this way more than my other nerites. I won't see them for months then they'll be all over the place above the gravel for a few weeks. Rinse and repeat.

How to talk spouse into letting you upgrade your tank? 😜
Katherine replied to Jake19's topic in General Discussion
I think to be able to give any decent advice, we need to know what the objection is. Why didn't spouse want the 40 to begin with? Is it a space issue? Money? Water damege potential? Time it takes you to deal with it? Fish creep them out? Something else? -
They can mate and lay eggs, but the eggs are not able to hatch in fresh water.

What is the best clean up crew for a 10 gal?
Katherine replied to Whitecloud09's topic in General Discussion
Me too. I currently have 6 and previously had 2 others and I've never had eggs. I wonder if it's somehow related to water conditions as well? 8 males and no females seems ridiculously unlikely.- 25 replies

In my experience, ramshorns breed much faster than bladder snails. They're also a lot larger.

Weird eggs on surface of water - 2nd time in a few months
Katherine replied to BMBLSAD's topic in General Discussion
To me it looks like it could possibly be from the mystery snails. If a small clutch got knocked into the water before it had dried it could spread out like that. Are they the wrong size for that? -
Have you checked the expiration date on the test kit? And is nitrite one of the ones where you're supposed to shake the bottle for a ridiculous amount of time before you use it?

I haven't been able to get my cubes to stick for more than about 30 seconds. I'll have to try presoaking. I don't have a powerhead, but maybe if I put it in the path of the ez flow that would work.

How do you get the freeze dried food into the water column? Mine stays floating forever.

I also have a cat who likes to jump on top of the tank and the glass top has held her up just fine.

@jwcarlson There are a few classics I really like. Of Mice and Men and The Pearl, both by Steinbeck, are the first that come to mind.

I'm trying to read Pride and Prejudice for a book club and I'm really not enjoying it. I don't understand why so many people love this book.

Katherine's Planted Tank Journal

Not a great photo, but we have baby guppies! We've spotted 3 at a time, I'm not sure if more than that have avoided becoming lunch or not. -

I've had this red onion nerite for about a year and I've never seen it on the glass before. I did not recognize it from across the room and had to go check who it was. -
Would it be possible to use each card in it's own transaction to buy a coop gift card, then use both of those in one transaction with a credit card covering the rest? That may be more trouble than it's worth though.

My favorite (which annoys my kids, which just makes it better) is I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. https://youtu.be/GNDri18-eQ0?si=2IRwGQfOVxgnX96X
