  1. We have neon tetras! The store only had 5, but they should be getting more next week so we'll probably be getting a few more. I am treating this tank as their quarantine tank. I only turned the light on for the photo and now it'll be off the rest of the day to let them settle in better.
  2. The snails got algae wafers this afternoon. One of them grabbed a whole wafer and carried it about 6 inches, half or more of that over the top of a bunch of other mystery snails, without dropping it. I'm impressed.
  3. Hillstream loach, Cherry shrimp, kuhli loach, any kind of nerite snail I don't have yet, some kind of red or orange fish
  4. I did not know that was a thing, very cool!
  5. What is this? It looks like a smaller version of those lego pickup things.
  6. The ones I bought from a store also pitted much worse during the crash than the ones I raised. I'm thinking that has something to do with nutrition early on in life. That could be. I don't know the proportion of calcium to magnesium in my GH, but it was still over 300 after my longest time without a water change.
  7. That's from when my PH crashed. They all have some. New growth looks so much better. GH is off the test strip high. KH is lowish, but stable now.
  8. I'm glad I tried raising them once, I really enjoyed the experience, and I'm enjoying them while I have them, but I don't plan to do it again. I've been thinking over what I want to add to the tank when the snail load is lower. They probably have about 30x the bio load of my fish. There are more of them than the fish to start, and they're larger than my fish as well.
  9. I did not adopt any out. None of the stores around me seemed to be feeding them enough in the store, always tons of empty shells in the tank, so I didn't even try there. I gave it a half-hearted try to adopt some out to local hobbyists and got no bites. I lost several during my PH crash from not being able to get to the tank in the fall. And I'm losing 1-3 a month since getting that back under control. I think it may have done permanent damage to some of them. The ones doing well are doing really well, the ones not doing well are slowly declining. I spent way too long trying to decide what emoji to put there. One of the dads is absolutely huge.
  10. Are you getting 2 notifications for the same post? Like if you were following this thread you'd get one that I quoted you and one that I commented? I only get 2 for the same thread if someone tags or quotes me and someone else also comments.
  11. With just one snail to feed I'd break the wafer into smaller pieces and only put part of one in unless they're mini wafers. You wouldn't want it to cause more ammonia problems if it's more than the snail can eat.
  12. Maybe with a good enough stud finder? I'm not sure how well that would do through carpet. Maybe you could use it through the ceiling from the room below if you have access to that.
  13. I would try to avoid that. Is there any way you can put the tanks along different walls? Any way for you to tell which way the floor beams go? Can you put them along an outside wall?
  14. Both tanks are in my living room, visible from my desk and from the couch, to varying degrees. 75 gallon - My tank Zebra danios, black phantom tetras, skirt tetras (some white, some glofish), mystery snails, red ramshorn snails, horned nerite snails, black racer nerite snails, spotted nerite snail Valisneria, crypt wendtii green, crypt wendtii bronze, crypt spiralis, crypt lucens, water sprite, subwassertang, rose sword, crinum calamistratum, anubias nana (might be petite? I forget), pogostemon stelatus octopus, duckweed\ 10 gallon - Kids' tank Mystery snails - Plan to have neon tetras and a hillstream loach eventually Subwassertang, crinum calamistratum (yes, I know this gets big, but it takes a super long time), some sort of anubias, duckweed
  15. It's been offered. They originally said they wanted it. Then one wanted it and the other didn't, so it didn't go in.
  16. I might have to convince my kids to put the water sprite in their tank like they originally wanted and just have a huge patch of val there.
  17. When I was using the light that came with the tank it was just barely not dying. It really likes the coop light.
  18. I have val touching the top of the tank! I cannot overstate how excited I am about this! 😍
  19. This is a baby wendtii. This is lucens.
  20. People do that for snails, so I don't see why not for plecos.
  21. Maybe try a closer photo of just the plant you're trying to ID so it has less to get wrong.
  22. @Theplatymaster Why is a snail like a cricket?
