  1. That is amazing! I can't wait to see a picture of it all finished!
  2. Right now I am just happy that everything is thriving and I've had relatively few bumps in the road. The plants are growing like crazy and the fish are happy and sassy.
  3. I would guess its a lignting issue. The red pigmentation is caused by a chemical called anthocyanin. This pigment is basically a response to the high light.
  4. I love your tanks. It's giving me some good ideas how I can maximize my space. I am going to be moving in a couple years so I'm trying to be conservative at this point.... but its hard there are so many things I want to do.
  5. Gorgeous tanks! I'd love to see the upgrade.
  6. HAHAHA Yea it's a really great place I absolutely love it. I have a feeling thanks to them I'll have a new tank rather sooner than I had planned. I really love the threadfin rainbows they have.
  7. Have you gone to watercolors? I know the ones they had were already sold and a special order, but they haven't gotten some pea puffers in. They will place special orders at a customers request as well. I'm waiting for one myself. Nothing super exciting just some pygmy corys.
  8. Nice I'm in Grand Rapids as well. I work a few blocks away from Water Colors, which is quite dangerous. I love that place.
  9. I forgot to plug mt heater back in once. I noticed something was off Wednesday night. I stuck my hand in to pull out some dead plant material and realized the water was ice cold. I panicked and thought my heater had broken. I ran to my computer to order another one for pick up the next day and saw the unplugged cord. I plugged it in and what do you know. The heater turned on. I lost a few fish from that. My heater had been unplugged since my water change the previous Sunday. My tank is in thr basement.
  10. I can ser why you wanted them so badly. Those fish are stunning and they look amazing in that tank!
  11. Lovely tank! That sounds like how I ended up out of the hobby. It was too much work to haul tanks and fish to and from my college dorm several times a year. I told myself that once I was more settled I'd set another tank up again but it never really happened. Quarantine provided me with all sorts of time to sit and research and re-learn everything. I still only have the one tank but I have plans for several more. We are probably going to move in couple years (oooooye) so I don't want to go too crazy right now.
  12. I love how lush your tank looks. Everything had grown in beautifully.
  13. Hi! Also in Michigan. I love your little murder beans. I only have one tank set up currently but someday there shall be murder beans.
  14. 😁 I'm lucky I'm single right now. No one to complain about my space hogging hobbies other than me. Not only did I dive back into the aquarium hobby but I'm an orchid grower as well. I may have a couple of other house plants as well. Just a couple(dozen).
  15. @FishObsessedYou aren't lying. I am still building the tank I have slowly. I need some more pygmy corys and I think I'm going to do a small school of 6-8 chili rasboras. I've already shoved what a lot of people would consider a shocking amount of money into this tank as it is. I definitely don't have any regrets other than not planning for multiple tanks when I dove back into the hobby. I will probably be moving in a couple of years and that's definitely something I'm going to be taking into consideration when I start house hunting.
  16. I guess it was realizing that I could have plants in my tank so I can have a small table top underwater garden. Then the more I learned about the hobby the more I loved it. I love watching my fish dart in and out of the plants like colorful birds flitting around my garden outside.
  17. I'm not sure but I bet they do. I didn't know there was an aquarium club in my area until I found a little local fish store where all the employees are hobbyists and members of the club. It seems like in a lot of ways they are kinda like orchid societies and rely a lot on word of mouth. I went looking for mine and they don't have much of an online presence, or at least they didn't pre-covid. I'm a member of my local orchid society and I've been working hard to get them an online and social media presence so for those who are actually looking for us can find us and know that we are active and not disbanded.
  18. @FishObsessedI wish I had gone with a 20 gallon but I got a 15 instead. Still a nice size but I wish I had caved and shelled out the extra for the slightly larger tank. I went acrylic so cost was definitely a factor in my decision. The more I learn about the hobby the more I want to do. I want more killifish, I want a betta tank, I want a rainbow tank and pea puffers! I somehow thought that I'd be fine with just the one tank when I got started with this. I should have known better.
  19. I love your tanks! I hope mine grows in as well as yours do. I don't have anything quite that large yet. I dipped my toe in the shallow end first and went with a 15 for my first tank and years and my first planted tank ever. Of course now I wish I had gotten a larger one and planned for additional tanks.
  20. It looks awesome! I had originally planned to do something like this with my 15 gallon and then I fell in love with killifish. I still want a nice betta tank and I'm shopping around for another tank and place to put it!
  21. I do not use a python at this point but I also dump the prime into my tank and then add the water. So far it has worked well for me and I haven't seen any signs of distress in my fish. Other than them being unhappy my hand is in their tank that is.
  22. I've honestly thought about adding one or two in to mix it up. There was one area in the tank I had a hard time getting plants to take. I just stuffed hornwort in that corner and its doing fabulously. I am not against using them and may use some on future tanks depending on what sort of look I am going for.
  23. Hello! My name is Alison and I'm from Michigan. I recently got back into thr hobby after a long hiatus. I have my first low tech, fully planted tank going right now. 15 gallons with clown killies and pygmi corys. I am very much enjoying the community and re-learning everything. The hobby has advanced quite a lot in the last decade and change!
