I want 3 more discus. So far, no problems. But when you are dropping $50-$60 per fish is a little intimidating. But I started with a lot of material from my old tank, and mover relatively slow when stocking. I also monitor the water every few days. The tank has been burning through nitrates faster than the tank can produce them, but the nitrates are picking up pace now that the stocking levels are getting higher. love the pictures of the loaches peeking out the cave!

It’s striking how fast the algae turns red! before I uncovered it, I looked for snails etc, trying to escape. when I plopped it into the tank, poof, it turned red. And of course neighborhood watch needed to investigate the scene of the crime. I did not have the heart to tell them several bodies were carted off. looks like MTS don’t survive

Always hated doing that. Coffee only takes you so far

Is her ovipositor still out? (At least that’s what I think they call the part the eggs come out) Feed her some bloodworms or brine shrimp. It should get her ready to spawn pretty quick

I wouldn’t think the pressure would be that high, but the log was completely covered with moss/algae. I can make other arrangements of the moss is wiped out.

I was just wondering

I woke from my Sunday afternoon nap feeling somewhat murderous. 🐌 gonna suck the life out of some algae. Someone also questioned if this would remove MTS. Gonna find that out too. I’ve wanted to try it on my mossy log for a while. Since it’s fairly large, I had trouble finding some thing large enough to hold it without needing gallons of carbonated water. So adding a cling wrap over the top. Figure it will hold the co2 in place. in the morning we shall see.

I love it when that happens

And quite a few from the size of her belly. When I see Lucy’s ovipositor, eggs are on the way w/in an hour or two.

I’m going to run a couple batches of BNPs in my 38 gallon, then move the angles into that tank by themselves. I really don’t have the tank space to breed lots not lots of fish, so I need to be somewhat selective in my efforts.

Scrapple? Did someone say scrapple? (He says with drool running out both sides of his mouth. Dang it! Now I’m hungry

I managed to get 15 of the sailfins out, and sold them at the lfs. I had the owner order a few discus in for me thinking I could offset the cost. 6 discus ordered. 6 DOA. Heat is downright oppressive this year. Sheesh

My LFS (I only have 2, but the other specializes in salt and African cichlids) will pay ~$2.50 cash for BNP. I have them put it on a layaway instead. That way if I ever want something, it’s already paid for. BTW: @Guppysnail! Is there ANYTHING as cute as a baby BNP? Bubba Pleco, aka Big Daddy Pleco, must have kicked the kids out of the house. Tank is littered with babies.

I did it backward for my 75 gallon. Eco-complete under gravel, about 50 of the gravel was from a 20 gallon I was retiring. Worked well, and the tank cycled super fast. Can’t see any issue with eco-complete on top, though over time it may settle into the gravel.

I’m not sure I’m up for discus breeding. I would like angel babies, but my attempt to pull the eggs have always utterly failed. right now I’m working on another batch of BNPs since they sell really well at my LFS. Once get through another batch, I think I’ll shuffle things around so Hank and Lucy have a 38 gallon to them selves. They have managed to get wrigglers a few times, but with other fish in the tank, they don’t make it much further.
