  1. I’m mostly with @Brandon p here. The males do initiate courtship, but if you have one or two males it can work even if there are more females.
  2. You are saying: 1. Cycle a 10 gal qt 2. Insert permanent resident, let the tank stabilize 3. Insert new fish group 1, use med trio 4. Move new fish group 1 to permanent home, let qt “rest” and use chemical filtration 5. Insert new fish group 2, use med trio question: will the second or later treatments harm the permanent residents? my opinion: not likely, if u allow remove all the meds and allow the tank to reset between treatments. interested in the opinion from luminaries like @Guppysnail, @modified lung, @Fish Folk, etc
  3. I’m with Brandon here. The trick here is feed them well, keep the water clean, give it time.
  4. I have a mix of 2 fantails,2 Shubunkins, and one oranda im not sure when they start showing color, but this little guy shows a faint gold cast
  5. How’s this for super crazy…. a few days ago I wanted a few floating plants for my angel breeding box. So I scooped a handful out with my hand, and carried it in the house. fished this little guy out of the breeder box this afternoon! All of a quarter inch long @modified lung, I think I’m in for a lot of baby goldfish
  6. Yes. Kinda. I put the conditioner in when I start filling back up. good water conditioners are fast acting, so there really is not much risk. I typically use fritz complete from ACO since they have the pump. Makes measurements much easier
  7. For duck weed you need a summer tub (aka mini pond). Grow it outside, bring it in to feed them. It grows very readily down here, but goldfish really love it. for water changes, I use 5 gal buckets (like u buy at lowes/Home Depot) on my smaller tanks. But for a 75 gallon a 50% is, well public math. And too many trips back and forth. I bought a hygger water change system off Amazon, but most people would recommend a python. https://www.amazon.com/hygger-Bucket-Free-Aquarium-Cleaner-Maintenance/dp/B08CXT5LP9/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1LKYE89GOE9I2&keywords=python+aquarium+vacuum&qid=1659488353&s=pet-supplies&sprefix=Python%2Cpets%2C100&sr=1-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFUOFhOVDVQU1Y0QjEmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5OTIxMzYzT1lPMlgzNzlTUUpYJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4OTk2MjgyUlNNVjFNN1JMSFM0JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== https://www.amazon.com/Python-Aquarium-Maintenance-System-50-Feet/dp/B000255NXM/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1LKYE89GOE9I2&keywords=python+aquarium+vacuum&qid=1659488353&s=pet-supplies&sprefix=Python%2Cpets%2C100&sr=1-3 either system uses an adaptor to connect to a faucet, or you can hook it up to a hose bib outside. Running water though it primes the siphon, the you you close the valve at the faucet and the tank fills up. I still use a bucket when I gravel vac, but that doesn’t need many trips. while I’m thinking about it - aquarium water is great for plants. So while you can put it down the drain, putting it on you houseplants it better. Or on your lawn.
  8. Is he eating the eggs? I can’t quite make it out. Are these experienced parents, or youngsters trying w/o work it out? Are there other fish, esp male angels? Inquiring minds want to know.
  9. Sooooooo I’m contrary on this. A 10 will work if you keep up with the water changes and limit to stocking. I community bred pandas in my wife’s 10 gal betta tank for a year or so. It was the pandas, 5 harlequin rasboras, and one betta. the seemed happy enough, and made lots of babies. going with the dwarf species is a better option though. When you have a larger tank of pandas you can really see the the school cruzin’ around like a middle-school bicycle gang on summer break. No particular destination, lots of thrust, not much vector. At least until the see you with a camera, then they head to the hills
  10. One of my lights is a hygger it works well. at less than $60 it’s a great place to start.
  11. Pick away! I promise to try not to steer you too wrong….. crushed coral helps stabilize a tanks ph, making it better for your fish over time by raising the kh over time. I don’t know anything about stonewall water, but the water from my tap has low ph, low kh, and high gh. Putting crushed coral in the canister allows the water to flow over the coral, and distributing it to the rest of the tank. It also hosts beneficial bacteria. So win win. my preference would have been to get a fluval 407, but I had a credit at pet zone and the did not have them in stock. Plus the fluval is a little more expensive. have you selected you light yet?
  12. I love having a mini-pond! First year I bred plattys, made out like gang busters. Last year I tried mollys, did not work out as well, still fun. the tank is the 100 gal Rubbermaid from tractor supply. I dry stacked the bricks around it to make it look nicer, but can easily break it down if I need to Bo any maintenance. I have cinderblock holding up the planters with bog plants. I ran an extension cord out to a dry box holding an air pump. It also provides power for a water pump. Easy setup, once you work it all out.
  13. The only place that buys fish from local breeders is Pet Zone on Jewella. It’s only 5 min from my house, so that helps. when we moved back from Denver in 2017 we looked at a place in kiethville.
  14. If you are in the area, and interested in non-goldfish like corydoras or bristlenose plecos I can hook you up. I’m breeding 2 types of corydoras and the plecos, so I have plenty to spare
  15. I keep goldfish in my mini pond. They weren’t supposed to be permanent, more like fish rentals. I bought 2 fantails last fall thinking they would grow over the winter. Then I could head back to the local pet store, and sell them back. Welp, come spring, my wife was very impressed with the fish. Now I fantasize about finding a place for them indoors. The little orange-ish one was actually born in the tub this year. I’m in Shreveport, work on Barksdale.
  16. Oooooooo I’m so excited for you. Post pictures as you go so we can enjoy ur journey with you 1.5 is more than enough air flow.
  17. Hello from the ArLaTex! What part are you from? 3 fancy’s in a 75 should work ok, but the plants likely are hit or miss since goldfish like plants a little too much. You may want to think about adding a few other cool water species like white clouds and/or one of the cool water corydoras to round out the tank. Here a link to my build out for a 75gal discus tank. personally, I like running two sponge filters with a canister for my 75. The sponges are a great backup, and the canister keeps the water very clear with minimal maintenance. The sponges are very effective as a biological filter, but aren’t as effective for mechanical filtration.
  18. @Guppysnail wiggly catfish are the best!
  19. I find clean water, lots of high quality food, and time usually do the trick. I feed Tetra shrimp wafers daily, plus frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp once in a while. I also drop in a small portion of Repashy some evenings. how long have had the trio? Are you sure you have 2 males and one female? Can u post your latest water test? Pictures? I colony breed pandas and red sailfin corydoras. The trick is lots of plants and hiding spots, and I prefer to start with 6-10 to ensure I get a good mix of sexes. I know the internet says keep it to the trio, but I have yet to find any panda eggs in my tanks. My red sailfins deposit on the glass all the time, but when my panda start acting like the are frisky all I find is nothing. I suspect they are depositing their eggs under have fern leaves. It took my sailfins almost a years before they spawned. I though I had tried everything. Water changes, check. Good worms, check. Cool water changes, check. I even waited to do a water change just in time for a spring storm. Then I moved them to a different tank. Bingo. I do think they spawn better in the spring, but all my colonies (3; 2 panda, one sailfin) are thriving and spawning regularly @Guppysnail also breeds pandas, she my have other thoughts
  20. Smokes! Are those lyre tail guppies? A-maze-ing Never have I ever had a lily bloom. So envious
  21. All I know is schultzei run $30. Little rich for me, especially since I don’t have room for another corydoras colony
