What are you all using to measure water temp out of the tap?
Ken Burke replied to EVoyager31's topic in General Discussion
I’m right there with you. If you had done a 50% change I would expect about 1.5 degrees, so not too surprised by 1 degree at 40%. I wouldn’t want to mix 78 degree water with say 38 degrees during a water change, but 5 or even 10 degrees should be ok. Especially if you add the water slowly. -
It also add a level of insurance. If something happens to your tub, u still have a base stock

Every tank needs a little plane….. -
I know right?! It’s soooo hard to throw out water sprite, duckweed etc.
-
Why not a little of both? Pull in say 25 or so, and raise them indoors. When you get near the end of summer you can compare the results. Size, color etc oh, and send pictures

It is for me! Shhhhh don’t tell my wife

I’m sorry, that’s suicidal. There is no known cure for MTS. But it can be managed by drawing up detail plans for your next tank at least 3 times before investing. If done properly you might be able to get away with only getting 6 or 7, 8 tops, dozen tank a year.

I couldn’t take it any longer. I just had to move the babied into my 38 gal. It has one tetra, 2 adult bnp and a zillion baby plecos.

I think they do the basics, but ask Kim or Zach (you can tell them I put you up to it 😁). I know most of the people up there, at least by sight. They might know me as the guy that brings in red sailfin corydoras. do you have a problem, or are you just wanting to get an expert second opinion?

I’ll add: having a school not only reduces stress for the fish (more eyes alert to danger) but it ensures receive the very best education. Further, as you increase the size of the school, you’ll see behaviors change. The fish become less shy, more playful etc. my guess it 6 come from an observation that these changes happen around 6

Can’t remember how……😭🥲🤣

New tank and new to hobby: unexpected snails
Ken Burke replied to pixlweaver's topic in General Discussion
What a great setup! Can wait to see it with a few shrimp. Maybe some CPDs or chili rasboras. How long has your tank been running? I see some signs of algae (a good thing at this stage). -

I wouldn’t worry about the snails too much. You can manually remove them if needed. Once you get the shrimp/tetras in the tank, each how much you are feeding and it will balance out. send pictures when you get time. -
I think I get better community breeding results with medium gravel. It gives the fry more hiding spots.

If the ph doesn’t come down after resting you water, you may need to cut you well water with RO or spring water. Check the spring water before use. Drought impacting you well water is a reasonable hypothesis. Hopefully it improves

I would try measuring your tap water after letting it set for 2 - 24 hours. Heigh co2 can cause height ph. Out of curiosity, are you on well or city water? Personally I would not do anything to change you water until you have a better understanding about what is happening. Well, except adding almond leaves, if you feel you need to do something.

I think the root of your problem is water quality, so I would start there. out of your tap, what are your perimeters, especially ph an kh?

How about Dwarf Anchor Cat. Erethistes jerdoni The Dwarf Anchor Catfish is a unique small catfish. They only grow to 1.2” in length. They inhabit slow-moving streams with soft sandy substrates. They are not very active in the aquarium, so you don’t need a lot of room for them. They prefer cooler temperatures 64-75o F. They naturally occur in Bangladesh and India. Dwarf Anchor Catfish prefer to be kept in small groups. They are better housed with species like Dario sp. or Celestial Pearl Danio. It is best not to house them with active bottom-feeding fish as they may be out-competed for food @Guppysnail these might be the “in search of” fish you mention. The image search included
