Question on Japanese trapdoor snails/white wizards
Ken Burke replied to Guppysnail's topic in General Discussion
My JTDs breed , but I don’t pay attention to it. I just look into the tanks and poof. They appear. -
My advise Is “just say no.” Guppies are a gateway fish. If you start breeding them, soon you end up breeding like 10 other species. next thing you know, the entire family is sleeping in the living room cause you converted the bedrooms into fish rooms, you are presorting you out going aquabid orders. 🤣😝🤪🤪🤪🥸

Nice!

Lots of tubbers round here! I’m not sure how the apistos will do, but with a heater they may work out. Shrimp can do very well in a tub, and I’ve even had a few make it over winter here in northern Louisiana. A couple of my baby plecos found a way into my tub this spring and really did well. If to want to ditch the heater, there are many colorful options: fantail goldfish, veriatus, corydoras to name a few. Another option is native fish. @Fish Folk has a thread for rainbow shiners here:

naw, it was commercial, but it around 1997. I was returning from leave though. Ended up getting back to base about 3 am. Had to walk a couple miles from the gate to the barracks dragging my luggage with me. Good times.

Beats my best story. Flying Phoenix to Korea via Portland. Flight to Portland was uneventful, left Portland on time, but 45 min into the 8hour flight had to go back due to a mechanical issue. By the time they fixed it, the crew did not have enough hours for the flight and they had to call in the standby crew. Added another 4 hours to the trip.

So, since I needed to do another site visit for one of my installations, I chose phoenix. Get to drop in on Mom, see my sister, niece. Out Monday, visit Tuesday, back Wednesday. Flight out on Monday am delayed so left 4 hours late. flight out this am, early. Got to the airport on time. Dropped keys in the lockbox. Hopped on the bus to the wrong terminal.. that was ok, I could make it if I hurry. Then I realized I had the keys to my rental. Drop the keys into my truck in the box. Had to go back and get mine. But the rental car place was closed. Missed my flight. Had to wait another 5 hours for another flight. worse part? Oh I had upgraded to 1st class, but they could not get another first class. Out 2 bills. but I was able to visit a really nice fish store. Had some really nice discus. Several nice (huge) tanks. enough whining.

So many fish, so few tanks

Yeah, those are schultzei. My experience is that the schultzei are more pricey, so more rare. Of course I’ve got a full tank of venezuelanus. Anyone need a few?

To give a little more insight in what I’m doing…. I started with the whites about 5% higher . It was better than my old lights in terms of algae control, but I necked it down for even better results….

Fluval 3.0 is awesome! I have mine shifting to reds and blues as a sunset, and my discus really show great during the transition.

I’m with @tolstoy21 here. If they can buy the fish at the lfs anytime, you’ll have lots of lookers. But not so many buyers. Rare fish are too expensive, and are a niche market. But uncommon fish with big curb appeal are the sweet spot. I think the pictures are another good idea. You’re not selling fish as much as a story. People like having a story about how they came by their new prizes, and the pictures really add to that. good luck!

What’s the hardest lesson you’ve learned breeding fish?
Ken Burke replied to AllFishNoBrakes's topic in Fish Breeding
I’ll add one, always have an exit strategy/end game. What are you going to do when you are done a given species? What is your plan for the fish you spawn? If you don’t have that planned out going in, getting out could get sporty….. -
Take care and stay safe.

Oops wrong thread

I’m hoping you have at least one pair outta the four. They look like they are healthy and happy so far though.

If you have a thriving shrimp colony, with enough vegetation, larger fish would keep the population in check. I have shrimp in with my adult angels without much issue. Sometimes I move an angle to another tank with a booming population, but they never eliminate all the shrimp.
