One thing about having 2 angels, you have a 50/50 on getting 1 male/1 female. That means, if you feed them well and keep the water clean, they likely spawn. When that happens they become very territorial. It’s not a problem with my discus, but not sure how it would go with an acara and parrots. Especially if the acara are spawning at the same time. fish calculators are wildly inaccurate. They may be useful to identify fish that need different water parameters like temperature, but the can’t factor in the room taken up with plants and other decoration. They also don’t calculate the amount of filtration needed very well, as they can’t factor in your water temperature or feeding practices very well. As a result, they make them pretty conservative. The good news is that if the say it will work, you likely can make it work.

Very interesting. Seems like the results are all over the place. sometimes seasonal in the spring summer, others in the fall winter sometimes wc triggers a sawn, but not always sometime a low front will trigger, but not always. so here is my hypothesis- in the fall my interest migrates to deer hunting. Less attention to the tanks results in less spawning

Three reasonable hypotheses’ hydrometrics - I’ve really backed off on my water changes over the last year. Water changes can (and do) prompt spawning, and I’m guessing water from the city could vary depending on the season. But the only way this could impact breeding is with regular water changes, and I’ve been pushing the limit in my lack there of. Not as likely. barometric - possible. I’ll need to track the barometric pressure to know. daylight extension - not as likely, though testable this fall. My tank is in an interior room and gets very little sunlight, though you can see two windows from the tank. This fall I can have lights in the living room come on an hour or two earlier.

I was watching my red sailfins spawn this morning and a thought occurred - Why do my corydoras go through dry spells with virtually no spawning, then weekly spawns? It feels like spawning cuts off in late fall, then picks up in the spring. I’ve had these guys for 2-3 years, and panda corydoras for even longer. Has anyone else noticed this?

Cute little wiggly catfish!!! I never pull my eggs, they just don’t seem to do as well for me when I do. I just leave them alone, keep the tank well fed, and get over run with the little critters.

Last week was disastrous for my summer tub. 😢😭😢. The water level dropped significantly so my wife went to top it off. After putting in the conditioner and dropping the hose in, she moved on to taking care of the “this and that’s”in the yard. When I got home, she had put 200 gal in my 100 gal tank, killing all my goldfish in the process. the real problem is the the tank is leaking, but I can’t find the hole. Does anyone have any experience with the 100 gal Rubbermaid stock tanks leaking?

I don’t really know how they do it. But I kinda like the way Cory explained in one of his videos. The short of it is to test your water weekly. When the nitrates get too high, do a water change. Repeat. Over time, you learn how much and how often to do changes. if your bio load is low and you have a heavily planted tank, the intervals can be rather long. If your bio load is high, like when I bred BNPs in a 20 gal, water changes every couple days is a very real possibility. I think this is the video:

I do! Year round, too. They spawn in the spring, and I managed to get a few babies to adulthood last year. But I don’t do anything special for them. I feed my angels and plecos heavily, though. Big thing is maintenance. Lots of food + lots of growth+ lots of fish = lots of waste. My filter (poly fill in that tank) needs just about daily. Test your water regularly, keep up on the water changes, should be fine.

My angels are very peaceful, until it’s time to spawn. I had 2 males and one female in a tank for a while. Even then, it wasn’t too bad while one was clearly larger/dominate. When Ricky finally caught up to Hank in size, “Peggy, bar the doors “. It was knock down drag out, and no backing down. Ricky got a tank all to himself after that. Not sure 🤔 the sight breaks can help in that case. Hank lives in the big tank with Lucy and a mess of discus. Ricky lives in a 37 gal with Baby (one of Hank and Lucy’s babies). They are all happy now.

I want tacos.

I used Easy Fry for my angel fry. I gave a couple puffs 3-4 times daily over the first several weeks. I did not have any issues with cloudy water until they were dime sized. But I’m growing out angels and BNP. What kind of fry are u feeding?
