  1. I love that fish and the 50 gal lowboy is the perfect tank for a colony. It is one of the top tanks on my dream list for sure.
  2. If you did the pattern like the directions say your good. When I set up my 20 gal I only used root tabs where the stem plants were...I put 3 or 4 tabs down then planted the plants in top if them. Most of my plants were ferns and anubias that were glued to rocks and wood. Since your doing mostly root feeders your method is great!
  3. @DSH OUTDOORS I really like the scaping done on your tank....that ship looks really great...could you get some better pics of it...pretty please!!
  4. @Fish Folk Excellently done sir!! Ill take 3 please...make them 80" long by 72" high with a depth of 24" please....and stain them a nice mahogany. Ill give you the address for your delivery when they are ready.😬
  5. I thought about this comment for a while before posting a response....I felt it really needed some serious thinking behind it. SO my response is....When has Nature or the "Unknown force" modified anything for the worse unless stimulated in some way by man? Evolution which is what I think you were getting at has always made changes for adaptations for the betterment to the best of my knowledge. I am not saying its an absolute but I cannot think of any changes that were made that hurt a species unlike what man has accomplished. Thank you for making me really think about that one😉
  6. When was the last time you saw a 35lb turkey in the wild? Thats GMO for ya. And your right....doesnt taste anywhere like the original unmodified animal that nature created.
  7. In my opinion...alot of the do and donts comes down to ethics. Can we really say that ethics are going good and healthy in this country.....Yes some people have them and I would like to think most....Its the ones that dont that I am afraid of.
  8. I can see the good side of that absolutely...but what if by eradicating that beetle causes the extinction of something else like some bird that eats it. That would be bad. Unless that bird is eating my Koi....then all bets are off!!
  9. If you alter the genetics of a virus to make it nonlethal your helping people. If you alter the genetics of a living creature just so you can make them appealing so people will buy them. That is unethical and purely done for greed! People helping people I am for and support. People doing unethical crap just to get rich well Ill let you guess what I want to do with those people!
  10. Yes...I agree....if its usage was left up to scientists looking to gain knowledge and help people ok....but in the hands of the greedy corporations who are just looking for ways to make money without the ethics...then your putting the gun in Charles Mansons hands! Knowledge is not dangerous...its how its used that is!
  11. Well thats the what ....but the key is how much? If there is uneaten food left behind on the tank floor that is too much and over time it builds up and starts to decay causing an eventual rise in nitrates.
  12. Then the definition should be updated!....modification by adding foreign or eliminating of dna is MODIFIED. Unmodified...is leaving it the hell alone like nature intended it. Unfortunately Ethics....the stuff that makes people ask IF they should do something rather than CAN we do something is almost extinct. Sorry no disrespect is intended.
  13. Lets not forget about fish food....an excess of uneaten fish food will cause high nitrates as well as it breaks down.
  14. Thus is a 20 gallon for our future betta but just to give you ideas… all the green plants are glued to the rocks and wood…only the red ones are stems in the substrate.
  15. its a bulb they will continue to do this as long as the bulb remains viable. Which could be indefinitely if water conditions are right. Bulbs go thru a dormancy period where they wilt back and just sit....when they come out of it they grow a new plant and start the cycle all over again. My grandmother had the same tulip bulbs for years and years always dying off and coming back.
  16. If it’s heavily planted and lightly stocked…you shouldn’t need a filter at all except maybe a sponge filter which would do both filter and aerate the tank.
  17. I just put 2 of the Large ACO sponge filters in my pond. 10 min after putting them in they were floating....I squeezed out all the air and they sank.....10 min later they were floating again. I was like there is no way this should be happening.....now i did use check valves on them but had the check valve right near the sponge filter....dont ask me why i did that just that I did🙄 Well thats a big air bubble right next to the filter....I removed the check valve ...reinstalled the filter and it sank never to return to the surface. So in my case...operator error.....Dohhhh! again.....its been 2 days now.
  18. I can tell you first hand this works....My mother had a starfruit tree when we were kids....Every year it got bigger and every year it never fruit....next year bigger...next year no fruit....we were never allowed near that tree because she was afraid we would damage it. Well after like 5 years it still never fruit....one day my brother and I are playing frisbee with a garbage can lid....back in the 70's they were metal back then...and we hit that tree and took a big chunk out of the trunk...i literally thought my mother was going to kill us. Well that year not only did it fruit...but the biggest she had ever seen and it was a double crop. And that tree fruited every year after that to this day, So go beat the hell out of that tree...😂
