  1. I am trying to breed daphnia and have a culture going. My question is...I keep getting a collection of mulm/junk type stuff at the bottom. Am I doing something wrong to make that happen? They have an airstone and some slow growing floating plants. How do I clean it out without throwing out a bunch of babies?
  2. There are a couple pygmy cories hanging out in there now. and a few blue dream shrimp. want the killis to grow up first and see if they will breed.
  3. I went with Clown Killifish and love them so much!
  4. I don't have any more room for bigger tanks. There's a 29 gallon in my kitchen, not sure my husband would appreciate anymore tanks in the house (9 currently, 11 if you count the daphnia tanks)
  5. I have a 29 gallon pea puffer tank in my kitchen and am patiently waiting for them to make me babies. But I love them anyway. Haven't even thought about wild bettas. Thanks for the idea.
  6. I have done every color of neo shrimp, as well as crystal reds and blue bolts.
  7. I am about to have an established 10 gallon (currently housing a betta that is moving up to my work and a few random blue dream shrimp) and am wanting to try something I haven't done before, and am wanting something that would be a small breeding project. I have done the regular guppies, platys etc. Current tank conditions are about 78 degrees with moderately hard water, pH 7.5, eco-complete substrate with lots of moss, floating plants and a few stem plants. Any suggestions on who would like to make babies in my tank? (The free money part is I just came back from a cruise casino $500 up so I have fish money to spend) Also, when I logged in today, I got my '1 year in' badge, so happy fishy birthday to me! Thanks friends!
  8. So I inherited this 10g last night from my niece because she was moving and didn't want it anymore. The fish had a rough day but will be transferred into their new, more appropriate tanks today. Are these plants salvageable? I've never dealt with such an overgrowth. What would you do?
  9. I currently have 3 juvenile pea puffers in a 10 gallon (been in there since they were rice sized). They are upgrading to a 29 gallon and will get friends. For the move, I want to use their current filter and substrate and just add more. If I put them in a little tank with their current water, keep sponge filter and substrate/decor wet and immediately transfer everyone to the bigger tank, would that work?
  10. They usually get fasted at least 1 day a week. Could they just hold eggs for a long time?
  11. Here are my white cloud minnows. I have always just thought they were carrying eggs but they never seem to drop any. Is something else going on? Unheated tank, about 74 degrees usually, pH 7.6, 0 ammonia and nitrites, very few if any Nitrates (<10), GH 300ppm, KH about 100. Tank mates include neon tetra, gold neon tetra, and khulis.
  12. Most have been in the tank since January. The corys were added about a month ago. I was thinking old age until. yesterday when one fish I knew to be 9 months old passed (he was the first baby fish born in the tank and I am slightly heartbroken)
  13. My bettas have done really well with ember tetra and pygmy corys. I don't think there is any way to know know how he will react until he meets them. My Rosie flared at the corys in the bag but once they were in the tank ignored them.
  14. I have a 29 gallon planted community tank that is having some deaths. Current occupants are about 8 baby-teenager platys, 3 guppies, 1 molly, and 6 dwarf corys, and one ghost shrimp. Water parameters are ammonia and nitrites 0, nitrates 10, pH7.6, gh is the darkest purple on the strip because texas, kh 120, chlorine 0. A few weeks ago I lost an adult platy. I noticed it was being chased around a bit one day, then found him passed the next. Then in the last 2 days I have lost 2 platys and a guppy. All were noted to be lethargic for about a day, then swimming poorly and passing within 24 hours. I also feel like some of them were getting skinnier recently, but attributed that to them just no longer constantly reproducing. No obvious external symptoms (sores, fungus, etc) Most recent additions have been the 6 corys but they all seem well. I started a round of general cure yesterday, but wanted to make sure I wasnt missing anything else. Attached are pics and video of my poor guppy that seemed happy 48 hours ago and passed this morning.
  15. flakes daily 5/7 days, about once a week they get a treat of frozen brine shrimp or similar.
