    Any sort of tropical fish food, especially a pelleted kind will work as they really don't need a special 'shrimp' food.

    My research said I couldn't do the bleach treatment while I had carbon in my filter. If I take out the carbon, won't all my beneficial bacteria die??

    Yes, but they were so small I was worried they would be eaten by the hydra.😒

    This tank has hydra but no bbs. You can see the paramecium and stuff swimming around if you look close enough.

    Does anyone know of chemicals that will kill all these terrible little detritus worms, cyclops, paramecium, and Vorticella in my aquarium. You can see all of this 'stuff' swimming around in the video I just shot below. The pygmy sunfish fry is eating some of it, but he will never get all it. Ugh, what am I doing wrong? Plus I think I saw a hydra eating a flatworm or leech or something. 😒

    I don't know. I usually just let the weird stuff do its thing so I am not a good resource for eradication.

    I am certain they would last much longer. Temperature might be an issue.

    When my discus were smaller they didn't bother the Neocaridina, but as the discus got larger the shrimp slowly disappeared. I shot this video a couple of weeks prior to the discus starting to eat the shrimp:

    I don't know. I have never tried as it appears to be harmless. The video above was shot in a shrimp tank.

    Other than bacteria competing for food, I don't think of filters as competing with each other. A biological filter work by providing a home for beneficial bacteria. The overall size of the bacterial population is chiefly controlled by available food. If the the same amount of food was split between the bacterial populations of 2 biological filters, there would still same total number of bacteria, but split between two locations. It wouldn't matter if a car had two engines if that car had only one fuel tank.

    They are very closely related, so although there is a difference, it is very slight. They are both in the same sub-family Rasborinae. Sorta like the difference (same genus) between swordtails and platys which is no difference and if they breed they have fertile offspring. Whereas with the difference (same genus) between guppies and mollies is a little difference and when they breed the offspring aren't fertile. With danios and rasboras are just a little more different (same sub-family, just above genus) but still closely related, but not close enough to produce any offspring. Just found a picture with phylogeny showing common ancestor:

    The white stuff in the upper photo might be cyclops. The white bloomy, powdery stuff in lower photo is Vorticella. Both are harmless. Here is some recent video I shot of Vorticella.
