Baby Shrimp??? Or something more nefarious?
Streetwise replied to Marcy's topic in General Discussion
Please don’t worry about other small life in your tank! You are cultivating an ecosystem, and your inhabitants are resilient. -
@James Black, I am frustrated with sand caps. I think that excess sand keeps the soil from breathing properly. I am moving towards minimal gravel caps for my organic soil tanks.

I have used many filters with spray-bars. You can experiment with the placement and angle to aerate your water and stir your detritus.

Streetwise replied to PineSong's topic in General Discussion
I moved my Betta into an unheated community tank, and she is doing just fine. -
I might have to chose wild-type Neocaridina, with all the Cryptocoryne.

Wonder Woman Themyscira 14g cube
Streetwise replied to TheCzarista's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
I learned the the creator of Wonder Woman invented the Polygraph first. His wife insisted that he create a female superhero, and that is why Diana has the Lasso of Truth. My non-disclosure agreement prevents me from discussing the invisible jet.- 87 replies

My Askoll 20 has been stalled on plant growth, and I think it is because of the too-deep sand cap. I removed at least 5 lbs of sand and made an absolute mess. I am going to give it a few days to clear, while I keep wringing out sponges, and stirring up mulm. Then I will setup the wood, and replant.

One thing I have learned from my Apex monitoring is that pH changes in cycles based on photosynthesis and respiration of plants. @Daniel helped me to understand how this works.

I really enjoyed reading The Expanse, and seeing it become a series. It was sad when an actor behaved very badly, but the writers dealt with it quickly, and effectively.

I am watching Aliens again. I enjoy these classic movies, but I look forward to new genre movies, like the Dune reboot.

If you buy soil in bags, just avoid anything with manure, which will be too powerful, or white perlite bits, which will float.

Hi @TankofFish, I would recommend that you buy and read this: https://dianawalstad.com I have the Apple Books version so I can bookmark stuff digitally. I get organic topsoil from a local composter for $1 a scoop. I recommend 1-1.5 inches of organic topsoil capped with a modest amount of 2-4 mm gravel. Get some Mopani wood, and a bunch of live plants: https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/live-plants My aquarium journals focus on organic soil tanks.
