    I’ve managed to keep 6-8 ghost shrimp alive in a 5 gal quarantine tank. I grabbed them from the unnamed big box store. Bought them in 2 batches of 6 shrimp about a week apart. $.59 a piece. I’m surprised they have survived this long but seem to be doing okay. One even had babies. Had little shrimplets but I think some surprise guppy fry ate them. I find the females are larger and survive better. I think all the males died. They do get aggressive with each other for food.

    I agree that small of a swing in PH should not cause an issue that quickly. All things considered, it sounds like there wasn’t much else you could have done. I’m not sure if any salt would have helped in this situation? What symptoms did you observe in the fish?

    Sorry to hear this man. It suck’s losing fish. Sometimes we can do everything right and still not be successful. It sounds like you did everything you could. Any idea if the PH or water parameters were drastically different between tanks? That’s all I can think of at this point.

    Is the tank going to be inside your house? If inside the house, what is the temperature of the room with the tank? Here is a link from Aquarium Co-Op on cold water fish.     I’m hesitant to do anything extra since the tank is running so well. 😊 But I’m watching it closely.

    I have a few floating plants and a betta log. I'm hoping the floating plants start to grow more but the tank has balanced itself almost too good. Not much algae for the nerite.

    I really need to try this mode. I have two of these lights but have not used that feature yet. I’m hoping they go on sale soon as I need a couple more.

    I’ve noticed the changes in color based on the light also. I’ve never seen our boy make a bubble nest 😏

    Bean sprout was my first thought also. Will be interesting to see what actually grows.

    Poking a pin hole in the end is very helpful for me. Squeeze the tab in the tank water to get the air out. Then I just put them under a single plant or share them between close plants as needed. I’ve only used ACO root tabs so YMMV.

    I have similar set like @Pepere posted but it's the 15inch version like @JettsPapa mentions. Aquarium Aquascape Tools Kit, Long 15 Inch Stainless Steel Aquatic Plants Tools. I'm not sure if I'm missing anything a better set would offer either but I've been happy with them so far.

    I use that Daphnia with my Betta. It was something he would eat when he would not take the floating pellets. One bottle goes a long way. My other fish get a treat now also.

    I feed dead ghost shrimp to our turtle. It’s basically what ghost shrimp are sold for but we are trying to see if the ghost shrimp will populate in a 5 gal.

    We lost our little one also. Even after separating them it did not survive for whatever reason.

    I tried to get a picture of the top water feeding today but the glare was bad. My bulb didn't grow but Candi took care of me quickly.

    I find it funny that our ram, Spike (kids named him), is camera shy. He runs when he sees my phone.

    Do you have any way to test the water? There are a lot of unknown variables so It’s hard to guarantee it would be safe. If the new QT water is similar in parameters to the current tank water it should be okay in general. Daily testing to keep the QT water parameters at a safe level is probably needed.

    Sounds like a complete water change and testing the QT daily is a good plan. Maybe move some cycled media/filter from a cycled tank to help kick start the QT again.

    Well, don't be surprised if/when you use root tabs to see the gel capsule float up like that eventually! At least you ruled that out for now.
