Wow, welcome and that is a beautiful betta.

Kinda looks like the root tab gel after it breaks down and floats.

Is my neglected QT okay to use immediately?
redfish replied to nerdyaquarist's topic in General Discussion
Testing is the only way I know to help validate if the tank is "cycled and balanced" without waiting weeks. What do you have in the QT right now for filtration and substrate? -

Testing the water parameters would be a helpful start to check if the tank is safe or not. -
Low TDS Tap Water (<40 ppm) - To RO/DI or not?
redfish replied to OakenGoby's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like you need to do a side by side test if you really want gain more insight into your question based on your water conditions. -
I saw that but I was trying to avoid being a big spender on a shrimp net.... 🤣 I also wasn't sure of the quality. Seems like it would be fine for light duty.

Thanks for the replies. I agree, getting both will be ideal. I'll probably start with one and see how it goes. Next question : Which size opening? Most I see are 2 inch and 3 inch. @TheSwissAquarist I expect to get some blue neo's soon and have a few ghost shrimp right now. If I can't find the blue's locally, maybe I'll reach out to @JettsPapa.

What are some opinions on shrimp nets. What works better, round or square? I wish we had a poll function for some questions.

A story of plant... success!
redfish replied to OnlyGenusCaps's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I’m having mixed results with stem plants. Pogo seems to fade away over a few weeks in a couple different tanks. I have another round of Pogo now, hoping a more seasoned tank will help it grow. Water sprite is hanging around both planted and floating but not exploding with new growth. Hornwort is doing the best so far for a floater. Swords seems to be growing well along with the anubias. -
We are setting up a 10 gal for shrimp. Kids want blue neos. I used Fluval Stratum for substrate. It was really hard to get the water clear using Stratum. I’m currently look for some rocks to help scape the tank. We have some cholla wood and driftwood. Will add some moss and other plants too. I picked up 6 ghost shrimp for our community tank today as an impulse buy.

That's a big piece of wood. Looks like it would need a really large tank to support anything else in the tank.
-
Yes. We have had a bad run with pregnant female guppies. It feels bad but it happens sometimes. Completely unexpected too.

How does Jungle Fizz fit in with the recommended med trio? Is it a replacement to anything (Maracyn, Ich-X, ParaCleanse) or is it another med to add as needed?

@nabokovfan87 Is Ich-X similar to Jungle fizz for treatment?

The vent on theses rams seems to be one of the best ways to tell.
-
I agree. Our betta would not leave neo shrimp alone but does not mess the nerite snails.
-
You too? So many bushes just had to be that deer I’ve been waiting on all day. 🤣

Nice looking pair. I hope they work out for you.
-
I would recommend reading through the experiment or journal forums to see the other member tubs too.
-
Well done. It looks nice! I’ve been looking for some nice rocks like that too.

What a great journey.

Awesome!!!! I put a few Cherry’s in with our betta. They didn’t last long as the betta stalked them constantly. I picked up a new 10 gal just for shrimp. The kids want blue ones so I’ll be looking for some in a couple months.- 1,880 replies
